There is constant chatter amongst the sewcialists regarding “selfish sewing”. Some of us are quite happy to be selfish seamstresses while some of us will sew for anyone or anything….yes, Im talking about you out there that sews for your dog/cat/neighbour. Ive touched on it briefly, but for me, sewing for others really does boil down to how confident I feel as a sewer. I always think that while a crooked seam here or there, a wonky facing etc might be ok for me to overlook, I always worry that it may be frowned upon by others I may sew for. Strange but true.
I recently sewed a Datura for my SIL which was very well received. With this in mind coupled together with the ½ price Simplicity sale (still running BTW) at Sew Essential UK, I purchased a whole whack of patterns, Simplicity 1544 being one of them. 
I have wanted to sew for the hubby for some time so this pattern seemed like a good place to start. Without going into much boring detail, I buggered up on the sizing..& it turns out I now have { TWO } of these lovely Simplicity 1544 patterns.

To those of you celebrating today { MERRY CHRISTMAS }.
Its been a quiet Christmas here, but never mind, the howling wind has made up for the quietness and damn near blown us away. Its been so warm one would imagine Spring had arrived super early but a glimpse at the weather forecast for the next 5 days & one would quickly realise one’s been terribly mistaken!!
Bigger news is I drew a winner for my Blogiversary Giveaway on Friday. { CONGRATS } to the lovely Fiona from Diary of a Chain Stitcher. Who woulda thunk I could make it through a whole year of blogging…with so much to say?!
Man, what a year it has been too!!
Shortly before starting the blog we had just moved into our new home after traveling & relocating for what seemed like a century but we finally dropped anchor for longer than a second. Boy did it feel { GOOOOOOOD }. Having a place that you can call your own just releases all the good “juices” of creativity….although, having a place of your own also insures a drained bank account but hey ho…
This past year has been a productive one for me & my sewing. I can hardly believe it was even possible to make more than one garment a month let alone 3 some months but having everything unpacked & in its place definitely helps with productivity. I cant tell you what a spoil it is to not have to embark on a hunt through mountains of boxes every time I need a piece of elastic or….{ HEAVEN }.
Ive not always been 100% satisfied with my me-mades but it would be boring if I was non? I think sewing is one of those hobbies that provides you with a lifetime of challenges irrelevant of your skill level – I { LOVE } that about sewing.
But most importantly, blogging has connected me with all you lovely sewcialists & I cant begin to say thank you for the support Ive received. Honestly, you guys rock!! Ive never met any of you IRL but I feel like part of a worldwide family, albeit perhaps all with crooked sewing fingers, but still, the { BEST } kinda family. So

Not terribly exciting since I had some stay-at-home days this week. I tweeted that I think I should make me-made pjs just so I can feel like even SAH days are me-made days. Enter Vogue 8888.

Taking pics of yourself is one hellava hard thing to do when you dont have the right equipment { OR } when you have the right equipment but the damn focus is being a pain.in.the.ass! { AND } there is so much to get done in 10 seconds before the self-timer hits the shutter…who knew! I had to have a good giggle at Dibs & the machine as she wrote about the trials & tribulations of self-portraiture in her post “How do you do it?” That last image with the apparatus over her head has got to be the savviest bit of photography Ive seen in a long time…it really made my day 🙂
