City Lights and PM Press celebrate the publication of She Is Here, the newest Outspoken Author Series book, with a virtual book launch event with author Nicola Griffith in conversation with Nisi Shawl, coeditor of the series, on Tuesday, February 24 at 6pm PST. Learn more and register here.
Nicola Griffith is the winner of the Otherwise (formerly the James Tiptree Jr. Memorial) Award, Lambda Literary, Premio Italia, Nebula, Washington State Book Award, Society of Authors ADCI Literary Prize, Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and World Fantasy Award. Recent titles include Hild and Menewood, both from FSG; Spear from Tordotcom; and the crime thrillers The Blue Place, Stay, and Always, reissued by Picador. In 2024 she was inducted to the SFF Hall of Fame. She lives in Seattle, Washington.
Nisi Shawl is an African American writer, editor, and journalist. They are best known for their science fiction and fantasy stories and novels dealing with race, gender, and sexual orientation. They live in Seattle, where they also write on political and cultural matters for the Seattle Times. Even before Shawl’s steampunk-flavored alternate history of the “Belgian” Congo, Everfair, took the sci-fi world by storm, their short stories had already established them as a cutting-edge black writer whose politically charged fiction is in the grand feminist tradition of Ursula Le Guin, Octavia Butler, and Joanna Russ.
