War is not a unique thing. There is always a war going and there are always faces that show universal despair.

This is not a poliical statement but war is just dumb.

Magical Possibilties for Youth with Disabilities and their Families

leave a comment »

In the last two weeks I’ve seen two productions of the Jungle Book performed by the Arizona Magic of Music & Dance. Both productions equally fabulous. What had these performances work is the four days at the Arizona Magic of Music and Dance Camp. Quoting Sue Grzybowski, Camp Volunteer Coordinator, in her thank you note to her volunteers.

As the curtain is about to come down on yet another AZ Magic of Music & Dance camp I can’t think but reminisce about the days that have past, and what a difference you have made. The laughter shrills squeaks, songs, smiles etc.; are great memories. Watching those in wheel chairs do gymnastics, dance, and act in ways which nobody could ever imagine.

It is the last part of her quote that was visible to me in the audience of both productions. The audience filled with family and friends began watching the performances as dutiful supportive observers and rapidly moved to Awe and Amazement, then on to laughter, cheers and claps and finally to tears. There was one man who could be heard emotionally saying “That’s my kid, that’s my kid”.

In seeing these performance I’ve been a witness to true transformation, both on the stage and in the audience. To learn more, to volunteer for next year’s event, to enroll your child or to donate please visit AZ Magic of Music & Dance

Künstlerhäuser Worpswede

The Künstlerhäuser Worpswede are one of the largest residencies in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Among former grant holders are many well-known international artists such as Emmett Williams, Koeken Ergun, Yuri Leiderman, Dan Perjovschi, Katharina Sieverding or Egill Saebjoernsson.

The Künstlerhäuser Worpswede are supported by the Barkenhoff Stiftung, Worpswede, and the private initiative Atelierhaus e. V., which collectively make the studios available. Besides the regular presentation of works produced in the studios both within and outside Worpswede, there are also, on a discursive level, artists’ discussions, workshops and symposia on artists’ support, which take place at the Barkenhoff.
The grant body is also supported by the state of Lower Saxony through the award of a monthly grant of 1.400 Euro.
A restriction concerning age or nationality does not exist.
Selection is made by a specialised jury in the fine arts and sound art respectively.

Applications for the 2009 residencies in the fields of fine arts and sound art for a duration of up to 6 months are requested as of now. The deadline is July 10th 2008 (date of postmark).

Re-visiting Older Works

with one comment

There is some value in looking at the past. There maybe something that you forgot about and would like to revisit, a theme or approach to resolving your work. One thing that becomes clear is that no matter what you felt about your work in the past, you see how your views about what you do has changed. It would make sense that this would be a good lesson to remember but I never do.

I’ve had this feeling since the beginning of the new year that I’ve been trying to prove something. Today I decided to take some time off and just look at my old drawings and let them speak to me. They were not as great as I thought they were, but there was a sensitivity in how I approached drawing that I would like to get to. So I am at this moment off to a friends house to study and draw two models. See if I can capture what I looking for.

Into the Fire

An effective way to change your life is to make a declaration. Ugh!! ♥

I’ve decided I am going to teach.

VisitorThat said, I don’t yet how and what I’ll be teaching other then it will be about creativity and art. Of course I think I am the least most qualified person in the world, but I am asked often, why am I not teaching. So in making this declaration I will eventually solve this.

Next when I asked, I can say ” I do teach, but I am booked until July of next year, here is my schedule starting next August, reserve now” or ” I did teach and I was terrible”
