Birthdays

This has been a big week for birthdays.

First off, Squeak turned 7 months old on Friday. Here are a few of his accomplishments to date:
1 haircut
1.5 teeth
8 hours (maximum) consecutive sleep*
12 new foods

* We are working on it. He's an ok sleeper but not a great sleeper and has been much worse the past few weeks with teething and a cold. However, one cute thing is that he has taken to sleeping on his side lately (don't worry the pediatrician said once they can roll around really well it's ok to let them find their own comfortable position for sleep). But not only does he sleep on his side, but he presses his feet up against the crib slats. I think it must remind him of how he spent the last month before he was born...with his feet firmly planted against my ribs.

Then on Saturday was my sister Debby's birthday. Debby is my oldest sister and therefore has more memories of me than I have of her (until her memory starts to fade - she is the oldest after all). Here are some of my favorite things about Debby.

1. As noted above she has more memories of me than I have of her. And she's really good at sharing these memories...like how fat I was as a baby - but now I know fat babies are cute, and how I ruined Mother's Day by being born on that day. She's ingrained these memories into her kids as well so when they picked me up at the Chicago airport once, Jessica said "I know you - you are the one that ruined Mother's Day". Nice.

2. She made my halloween costume at least once - princess of course - and took me trick or treating. She made me actually say "trick or treat" even though I was quite shy, instead of just holding my bag open like I wanted to.

3. She liked to dress up me and Suz and take us out for dinner.

4. She has lots of talents... she plays the piano, she's a good cook, she sews, she decorates, etc. From all I can figure she taught herself how to do all of these things.

5. She was a cheerleader in HS just like me and used to show me all of her cheers. I thought they were lame, but it was still nice for her to show me and help me practice.

6. I'm pretty sure it was her idea to turn our swingset into a makeshift uneven bar(s) for gymnastics.

7. She saved Christmas once by fixing my walkie talkie that I got but broke after just a few days (she was an electrical engineer).

8. Thanks to her, I will not be surprised to find my child standing naked on a stool in the kitchen reaching for a bowl and peeing on the floor, having the fire department come to the house because he cooked popcorn "too many minutes", using the hose as a microphone to sing Disney songs, or throwing down the ping pong paddle and exlaiming "this is yuck", among many others.

Happy Birthday Debby!

Sunday was Suzanne's birthday. Suzanne is my youngest sister. So there are 13 years and 1 day between the oldest and youngest kid in my family. Legend has it that Debby really wanted Suz to be born on her birthday. Funny, isn't it, how a baby being born will not ruin a birthday but will ruin Mother's Day. Since Suz is the youngest she thinks she gets picked on. Well, she does. So in case she is feeling underappreciated here are some things I would like to thank her for:

1) Suz, thank you for being such a good playmate when we were little and going out in the rain with me to save my doll.

2) Thanks for tagging along after me and my friends even though I put rocks in your diaper and blamed you for writing on the wall.

3) Thanks for always running late for school and church. Seriously the image of you running out of the house for church, pantyhose in hand, trailing behind you in the wind, is one of my favorite :)

4) Thank you for trading me lunch for clothes at BYU and for all of our french speaking lunches.

5) Thanks for being my college roommate and for not unpacking your stuff for at least a month. No seriously, that was fun anyway except for the one time when I had to flip the circuit breaker because you refused to read anywhere but the bedroom. Remember our awesome halloween party?

6) Speaking of parties, thanks for dancing on the furniture with me.

7) Thanks for traveling all over the world so I have something to aspire to.

8) Thanks for joining me in so many adventures...London, San Juan Islands, Ozark for Christmas - it wouldn't have been as much fun without you.

9) Thank you for coming up with so many good ideas for "Girls Guide to Dating and Investing" maybe one day...

10) Most of all, thank you for growing a baby boy in your tummy so that Aidan can have a cousin his age (on my side of the family)

Happy Birthday Suz!

And last but not least, a special shout-out to my niece Matilda who also celebrated her birthday yesterday. Happy Birthday Matilda!!!
