10 Months

My little man turned 10 months old last week.  In some ways it has flown by and in other ways it seems like we've had him forever.  And while I do think back longingly sometimes to the days of sleeping in and being able to take a full shower AND get ready without pausing to sing I'm a Little Teapot, it is definitely worth it to wake up every morning to see this baby that is SO FULL of energy and ready to greet the day.  Some of his favorites at this age are:
  • playing peek-a-boo.  he hides behind the curtain and waits for me to say "peek-a-boo" then pulls the curtain back and laughs.
  • feeding himself.  he really loves all his fruits and veggies, plus cheese, toast, and graham crackers.
  • playing chase.  he crawls away really fast and turns back every few seconds to make sure I'm really chasing him.
  • going outside.  he can hardly contain his excitement when we go outside to play - especially if the dogs are coming too.
  • music.  he likes to bounce along to the beat.
  • upside down.  he loves it when daddy turns him upside down and carries him around.
  • figuring things out.  so far he has figured out how to escape from the gate system we set up to keep him in the living room, crawl on his tummy so he can carry his treasures in his hands (he crawls on his hands and knees 95% of the time now - unless he's carrying something), turn on my cell phone,  open my wallet and pull out my credit cards, and pull things out of cabinets - even the baby proofed one's!
He's a bundle of energy and I've been told more than once that I am definitely going to have my hands full with him. But curiousity is cute and let's face it, I'm pretty sure he gets some of his mischief from me :)

Memorial Day Weekend 2009

It started out like this.

The middle looked something like this.

And we finished it off like this.

Overall, our first beach trip and second camping trip with baby was successful.   And although both Brad and I managed to get slightly sunburned (the worst kind of sunburn where you miss a patch of skin while applying sunscreen and look and feel ridiculous the next day) we managed to keep baby sunburn free!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Yesterday was my mom's birthday.  It's hard to keep track of how old she is because she doesn't act her age (unless she is wearing her old lady sun glasses and asking for the senior discount for her movie ticket).

Here are a few things that I love about my mom:

  • She has literally cried over spilled milk.
  • Her favorite things are holding babies, reading, and swimming (mine too).
  • She is the best story teller I've ever met (particularly if she has finger puppets).
  • She loves the beach and loves boogie boarding.
  • She aspires to go white water rafting before she "gets too old".
  • Her favorite TV shows have consisted of, Remington Steele, JAG, Walker Texas Ranger (ok, maybe that was for my dad), and Desperate Housewives.  That's right sibs, your mom who wouldn't let you watch MTV, Soap Operas, or The Simpsons now watches Desperate Housewives religiously.  In her own words "I never miss an episode".
  • She taught me how to drive by letting me sit in the middle and steer and then later actually use the pedals too.   No this probably isn't very safe - but it was fun.
  • She loves to travel and explore.
There are probably lots of other things I could write about, but you get the gist.  Happy Birthday Mommy!
