the core of this recording is the 'ever after'-bootleg, based on material recorded and broadcasted by the BBC, and propably one of the discs that i never get tired of listening to!! it also used to be the only pro 'night music'-tour recording. however, this bootleg contains only eleven of the twenty tracks played this evening - the rest seemed lost...
but then, some years ago, a fellow jj trader from the uk dug out a disc with another four songs from this night!! i have no more infos about lineage or history of those cuts, but it sounds like the same source to me. we're talking about tracks 4, 17, 18 & 19, and "i'm the man" alone is worth this major upgrade :)
listed above is the night's complete setlist. i've kept the numbering of the tracks according to this order, the songs stil missing are marked with ##. i also integrated (re-integrated, if you will) "is she really/different" into the 'ever after' material... have fun!!

QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE - Anthology Box 1966-70
At their best, Quicksilver Messenger Service sounded like a blend of early Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, and the Grateful Dead, but almost constant personnel changes kept them from truly evolving into what they could have been. This set collects outtakes from a 1967 studio session, live tracks from a pair of concerts at the Fillmore in 1966 and 1967, live tracks from a concert at the Fillmore East in 1968, live tracks from a concert at Winterland in 1970, and tracks from a performance at the Old Mill Tavern, also from 1970. There's also a DVD featuring video footage from various shows the group played between 1967 and 1973. The sound is decent, and there are many times when the band rises to the occasion, but this is definitely a set for serious fans and collectors only. - allmusic.com

Copperhead was a band organized by guitarist John Cipollina after he left Quicksilver Messenger Service in 1970. Cipollina, who had been a member of Quicksilver since its formation and whose lead guitar playing was its signature sound, had grown increasingly dissatisfied after the return of band founder Dino Valenti from a prison term, when the group grew larger and he found he had less space to play. He had also grown increasingly interested in playing sessions, which the band discouraged. The early days of Copperhead were casual, with the group consisting of a loose aggregation of people playing gigs with Cipollina. Eventually it coalesced into a quartet consisting of Cipolliana on lead guitar; Gary Philippet on vocals, second guitar, and organ; Jim McPherson on vocals, bass, and piano; and David Weber on drums. The group was initially signed to the Just Sunshine label run by Michael Lang, one of the organizers of Woodstock. But in 1972 it was signed to a major-label record deal by Clive Davis at Columbia and recorded its debut album, Copperhead, released in the spring of 1973. Unfortunately, Davis was fired from Columbia shortly after the album's release, an action that doomed any developing band that had been signed under his aegis. The album went nowhere, and when Columbia refused to release their second album, Copperhead folded. Cipollina went on to play in many different bands before dying in 1989.

JAMES GANG - Allen Theatre Rides Again 2/24/01 - Cleveland, Ohio, Allen Theatre

Well folks here's a new release from C.S. Productions. As some of you may know,I recorded the second night of the Beachland show in '05 which was titled Beachland Rides Again. However,I also taped the Allen Theatre show years back with my old recording rig.It was released soon after under the title of Rode Again Vol. 1 but overall I was never happy with the recording. This time I pulled the original masters for this, added another audience source to my recording and the result was pretty good.
As I said,I was never happy with my recording even though it was taped from the center of 3rd row.I used a minidisc recorder and Core Sound mics at the time but the vocals really lacked in the overall mix and sounded quite distant. This was a result of where I was located and as I sat there taping the show,I knew it was going to be a problem.I guess they did not do a good job in the theater for sound but nevertheless my recording sounded good otherwise.
The second source is unknown which I thought was perhaps a DAT but now I am not so sure. The sound is decent but a little more distant and "hollow" than mine which is a bit "fuller" and upfront. However the vocals in this source are much more clear than mine.
As I put this together,I found there were some suspicious cuts in the second source which would be odd for a DAT so it became a bit more difficult to do.Not to mention a very slight speed difference that was less than a second off on the last couple songs which made things even harder. There was no actual material lost on the second source, just some audience chatter, some tuning and a little bit of talk from the group. But fortunately nothing was missed on my source so you get the whole thing. You will hear where the second source fades in about 90 seconds at the start of the first disc and during the second set just before Garden Gate starts. Then I found another 10 sec.(approx.) cut between Midnight Man and Take A Look Around. In any case,it all finally came together pretty well and I think you'll enjoy this. Both sources are O.K. by themselves but just wait 'till you hear them together. This originally was not intended for release but after all this work,I thought it would be nice to pass this along to rest of you in the event you may enjoy this matrix as much as I do.Plus I added a little bonus that I found on the end of disc two which was a small radio ad for the show. The artwork included was kept basic,I'm no artist but it will work...Pictures were taken from this very night and are courtesy of M. Lewis.Anyway, that's it for now....Enjoy. 3/2007 [Source Unknown]

*The NEW track (d2T01.NEW) contains a patch for the famous "Jones Gang" introduction to
set 2. This has been patched to contain the complete intro from a quite good audience tape (AUD: MR> C> C -- not a completely reliable sourcing, but close enough for its purpose here). The crowd is prominent, and the AUD is fun because they're absolutely nuts. In fact, the whole show circulates in AUD and it's recommended.
There are two .md5 files for d2. The first (gd77-11-04d2.md5) contains the original
tracks. The second .md5 file (gd77-11-04d2NEW.md5) contains checksum information for
the new track ONLY. You should when burning choose either d2t01.shn (no patch)
OR d2t01.NEW.shn (with AUD patch), but not both.
