QUEER QUOTE: Actor Haaz Sleiman Comes Out As Gay (and "Total Bottom")

Actor Haaz Sleiman has long been a favorite of mine. His chiseled features and beautiful complexion make him extremely attractive to me. As an actor, he appeared in the Oscar-nominated indie film The Visitor (see my review) in 2009 as well as in the first season of the Emmy-winning Showtime series Nurse Jackie (playing the sassy gay friend of the titular character played by Edie Falco).

We had not heard much from him for several years but in the last few weeks the "Arab hottie" has been raising his profile as the news that he has come out publicly as a gay man has propagated through the LGBT blogosphere. Possibly what raised eyebrows was Haaz's quote that he is a "total bottom" and an interview he gave to Unicorn Booty where he hotly rejects "bottom shaming" in what is today's Queer Quote.
“Bottom shaming is no different than sexism. We don’t take bottoms as seriously. We say, ‘Tops are better.’ And then we eyeroll when we hear that someone is a bottom. We hear that men are more worthy than women, and men are the center of the world. It is the same when it comes to the dynamic between bottoms and tops. It is OK if he is f***ing another man but it’s not if he is being f**ed by another man.”
Haaz is pretty active on social media, especially Facebook, Twitter (@haazsleiman) and Instagram (@haazsleiman). So far it looks like he is getting mostly positive reaction to his speaking out. What do you think?

GODLESS WEDNESDAY: Now In Arabic & Hebrew

Joe.My.God noticed that The Friendly Atheist mentioned the above billboards, which are part of a campaign to publicize the Reason Rally (March 24th) and the American Atheists National Convention (March 25th-26th) which will be happening in the Washington, DC area.

MadProfessah would love to attend these event but I will be in Los Angeles that weekend, attending the FUSION LGBT People of Color film festival instead.

Apparently the big symbols in the billboard are, respectively Hebrew for "Yahweh" and Arabic for "Allah" which are those two languages' name for "God."

And that's Godless Wednesday for today!

Celebrity Friday: Theo James

Every once in a while I am channel surfing and come across the show Bedlam on BBC America. I always stay and watch it for awhile, hoping for glimpses of stunningly gorgeous British actor Theo James who plays Jed. According to his Wikipedia page, Theo James was born Theo Taptiklis in December 16, 1984, which makes him 26 years old.

He apparently has decent role in the next Underworld movie and was recently named a "Star of Tomorrow." Remember where you saw him first!

Hey Arizona, This Is What An Immigrant Looks Like!

The newly crowned Miss USA is Rima Fakih, and she is an Arab-American immigrant whose Catholic Lebanese family came to the United States (legally) when she was a baby. Rima was Miss Michigan. Interestingly, the first runner-up, Miss Oklahoma Morgan Elizabeth Woolard expressed support for Arizona's anti-immigrant law SB 1070 during the very same beauty pageant.

I wonder if the new Miss USA will be traveling to Arizona in the next year?

Hottie Haaz Sleiman Cut From Nurse Jackie

Bad news, y'all. MadProfessah fave Haaz Sleiman, a.k.a. "the Arab hottie" is no longer going to be appearing in the acclaimed Showtime series Nurse Jackie. You may remember Haaz fro his great turn in last year's big indie film The Visitor (see MadProfessah's review) which was nominated for 2 Oscars last year.

Haaz Sleiman Talks About His Gay Muslim Character

Haaz Sleiman, left with Edie Falco on Showtime's Nurse Jackie

MadProfessah fave and overall hottie Haaz Sleiman is appearing in Showtime's new Nurse Jackie series starring multiple-Emmy-winning actress Edie Falco as a gay Muslim male nurse named "Mo-Mo."

Sleiman co-starred in last year's Oscar-nominated The Visitor (one of my favorite movies of 2008) and has also appeared as an "improbably hot Arab terrorist" on Fox's 24 television series.

Below, some video of him talking about his role on Nurse Jackie, which started airing on Showtime this week (Mondays)
