CELEBRITY FRIDAY: Sir Elton John, Lance Bass Get Married (To Other Men)

Last weekend there were two same-sex celebrity weddings. One aspect of marriage equality increasingly becoming a reality is that famous LGBT people will get married (and divorced) as well. Sir Elton John and Lance Bass married their partners. John had been together with David Furnish for over 20 years and the two are raising kids together. Bass married his boyfriend of three years Michael Turchin. The Bass-Turchin wedding was recorded for airing on E! Television in February 2015 as a special event: Lance Loves Michael: The Lance Bass Wedding. Most of Bass' *NSYNC's bandmates were in attendance, with the notable absence of Justin Timberlake, who is on tour.

"Thrift Shop" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Named #1 Song of 2013

Just a week after they received seven Grammy nominations, the independent rap duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have had their smash hit "Thrift Shop" acknowledged as the #1 hit song for 2013 by Billboard magazine.

In fact, as you can see, Macklemore & Lewis have two of the top 5 biggest songs of 2013, with their other huge smash "Can't Hold Us" coming in at #5. This is something of a surprise because "Blurred Lines" was a #1 song for a ridiculous 12 weeks this summer.  "Royals" by New Zealand teen phenom Lorde spent 8 weeks in 2013 but because the song was released late in the year it came in at #15. As Joe Jervis says, it is "f***ing awesome" that the most visible straight allies in pop music have the #1 song of 2013. "Thrift Shop" has nearly a half-billion views on YouTube.

How many of these tracks do you recognize? I think I could recognize them all if I heard them except for #9. My favorite of this group is probably a tie between #5 and #10.

Macklemore & Lewis "Same Love" Gets Grammy Nod for Song of the Year

The Grammy nominations were announced Friday night and one of the key results was the nomination of the gay marriage anthem "Same Love" by Macklemore & Lewis in the Song of the Year category. In fact, Macklemore & Lewis received 7 nominations overall, 2 behind the leader Jay-Z and tied with Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar and Pharrell Williams. Macklemore & Lewis are named in three of the top four categories.
