Rose to Colonel of the 158th New York Infantry and Brevet MGUSV. Post-war commissioner of the Brooklyn police department.
Wounded and captured at First Bull Run. After his exchange he was medically discharged. He later served as wartime mayor of Brooklyn and was active in the commemoration of the city’s regiments and veterans.

A butcher and merchant born and raised in NYC. Long-time militia officer commanding cavalry and artillery before the war. Rose to Colonelcy of the regiment and, after the war, Brig. Gen. in command of a brigade in New York National Guard.
A contractor in Manhattan, he was in the lumber and pavement business, and paved The Bowery with Blegian pavers. He rose to Colonel of the 8th NYSM.
