Yes, unregulated generative AI is straight up theft. Yes, it dumbs down creativity because it doesn’t create. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀? This was shared yesterday by Patrick Kuban, President of LESVOIX FR (France’s version of National Association of Voice Actors (NAVA) & Canadian Association of Voice Actors (CAVA) / Association Canadienne des Artistes en Voix Hors Champ) and one of the authors. When AI is used to translate and voice dubbing, what happens to the cultural nuance that a human translator and human actors bring because they inherently understand the mindset and values of the audience? “74% of our fellow citizens prefer to watch their films and series in dubbed version and 86% of them believe that AI is destroying French cultural know-how. While artificial intelligence may appear economically beneficial and useful, it harbors perverse effects that are dangerous for our culture. Dubbing is not just a technical translation service. Imagine losing the ability to walk for years… and then taking steps again. That’s what happened for Chloë Angus and at the Invictus Games she showcased it first hand with Vancouver-based startup, Human In Motion Robotics Inc.’s XoMotion. I’ve been excited about this team for a while, and they’re one of the easiest groups to get behind. Their commitment is next level. Human in Motion demoed this at Frontier Collective Frontier Summit, and seeing it in person brought home how life changing their work actually is. The demo was something that blew everyone away and was one of the highlights! And it’s a real reminder of what transformative frontier technology like mobility and robotics can do for humanity. When they say “creative technology” — take it literally. I just experienced Signals a Creative Tech Expo by DigiBC - The Creative Technology Association of British Columbia , The Greater Vancouver International Film Festival Society & IM4 Media Lab and my mind is officially blown. 🤯 For ten days, Vancouver transformed into a playground for the future of storytelling, and I was completely immersed in it. This wasn't just an exhibition; it was a journey into the collective dreams of over 30 artists pushing the boundaries of art, AI, and immersive experience. I walked away forever changed by powerful works like: ✨ Pegah Tabassinejad "Entropic Fields of Displacement" – an eight-channel video installation that turns the simple act of walking into a profound meditation on migration and resilience. I cried. This was a very relatable art, as a migrant, who is navigating a new city and has had to sacrifice some things to come scale a startup; I felt every bit of the emotion this piece tapped into. ✨ Zachery Cameron Longboy’s “SHEMANSHE"** – a deeply personal, layered encounter with land, memory, and spirit that stayed with me long after I left the room. A true legend and a pioneer figure in the emergence and development of contemporary Indigenous performance-based video installation. ✨ Pinyao Liu & Keon Ju Maverick Lee ‘s "ReVerie"** – where whispered dreams morph into a 3D landscape you can explore. It felt like stepping inside someone’s subconscious. I got to contribute my imagination to the digital dreamscape. It was sublime. ✨ The incredible IM4 Media Lab Collective, who brought youth and Elders together in "Thunderbird Dreams," creating a living, interactive mural that celebrated Indigenous creativity. It was a powerful reminder of how technology can strengthen, not fragment, our communities and culture. And special thanks to tge phenomenal project assistant Sussan Yáñez for the work you do and the beautiful art you create. ✨🤍✨ We explored, we wondered, we connected Div Wang ✨🦋✨ The conversations were as boundary-pushing as the art itself – no need for any "buzzword" translations here! A consent-gated “cameo” feature lets verified users allow trusted friends to use their likeness. A System Card outlines safety limits (e.g., upload restrictions, teen safeguards, ongoing moderation). Ultra-realistic, social-by-default video raises new operating questions for enterprises: managing likeness rights, verifying provenance/watermarks, setting pilot guardrails for brand and copyright risk, and mapping controls to your governance framework (e.g., NIST RMF / ISO 42001). The CodeZero team (Matthew Kern Reed Clayton) have eliminated this by moving security from the application layer to the network layer, ensuring that agents (think contractors and HT to Jim Routh) never even see the keys they use. Codezero changes the game by injecting credentials at the network layer, not the runtime. 👉 Zero Keys in Runtime, meaning your app code and AI agents function perfectly, but they have zero access to the actual API keys. 👉 Network-Layer Injection: Authentication happens transparently via a proxy. I spent a day at All In AI in #Montreal, and was truly impressed by the Canadian AI ecosystem. The thing is though, I was expecting more from those worldwide AI leaders. Too often, it feels like AI is a solution in search of a problem. It's great to learn how customer experiences are being enhanced, or how insurance companies are optimizing their data strategy with AI. Sure, helping employees and customers access to better information, in a faster way is nice, and can be game-changing for organisations. As an entrepreneur, I'd take a 30% productivity increase anytime. But if AI is really the revolutionary technology it's supposed to be (and I truly believe it is), then why are so many success stories focused on marginal improvements and small bottom line increases?  Why does it still sound like I'm being sold Cloud Computing and Big Data all over again? AI can and should be transformative. But for it to happen, we need to be much more ambitious. We need to focus more on how this technology can help us address the big challenges of today.
