Danielle Weddepohl reposted thisGrowing up in Toronto, I didn’t see many (if any) Filipinos in leadership levels in public or private institutions. As my career progressed, most times I was the only one who looked like me in the decision-making rooms. Danielle Weddepohl liked thisDanielle Weddepohl liked thisNot gonna lie… this might be my favorite football picture ever. I love this picture because there’s so much emotion behind it, and because it captures a moment where I was prouder than I’ve ever been. Proud of the Carolina Stars Football team: players, coaches, and staff. Proud of how far we’ve come together in such a short amount of time. Being a head coach has stretched me in ways I never expected. It’s challenged my patience, leadership, communication, decision-making, and ability to stay steady under pressure. But more than anything, it’s reminded me that leadership is never a finished product. I learn constantly from our players and coaches. I learn from the adversity, the mistakes, the personalities, the moments where things go exactly right, and the moments where it feels like nothing can go right. But what I love most is watching people grow. Watching confidence develop. Watching individuals become a team; actually, more than a team, a family. We still have a lot of football left as we close out the regular season and head into the playoffs, and I know the road ahead is going to demand even more from all of us. But I’m grateful for this journey, grateful for the people I get to share it with, and grateful that this game still finds new ways to challenge me, humble me, and teach me. #Leadership #Championship #GrowthMindset

Danielle Weddepohl liked thisDanielle Weddepohl liked thisA small shoutout to my Partner Grant Lecky for having been named a Finalist for the "Contribution Behind the Scenes" category at the Government of Canada Security Awards earlier today. While he was not declared a winner, and with the nomination essentially hitting him "out of left field", I wanted to send some kudos his way nonetheless. For additional context, the category Grant was nominated for recognizes individuals who play a crucial role in their workplace, even though their contributions may not always be in the spotlight - but are key to the attainment of a team/department’s goals. "This is the quietly proficient person who can be relied upon for expertise, dedication, and a steady and capable hand, which are fundamental to their team or department’s success." I think this applies quite nicely to Grant - both in terms of his work within the GC, and with the Security Partners' Forum!

What the DFIR analyst does during an IR engagement (not only equal to a firefighter or detective) is not the same as what the management should do in handling an incident or what the GRC should do in managing an incident. Why do some experts write a playbook to combine every aspect of DFIR for the technical team to follow? Why does the procurement write a tender to ask a service provider certified with CISM/CISSP or equipped with digital forensic tools to do the IR tasks like this?

Instead, the app provides a direct line for instant incident reports, lone worker monitoring, and emergency alerts, ensuring the right information gets to the right people immediately....

🔍✨ Weekly Insight: The Power of Culture in Investigations When investigating concerns within communities, culture is not a side note – it’s everything. Too often, investigators approach interviews with a standard checklist, forgetting that how people perceive questions, authority, and fairness is deeply cultural. 🌍 Imagine this: Approaching a community without understanding their cultural values can shut doors. But showing respect for their norms and engaging through culturally appropriate channels builds trust and opens conversations that matter. 💡 Key takeaway this week: “Cultural intelligence turns investigations from a process into a meaningful dialogue.” How do you integrate cultural understanding into your investigation approach? #Investigations #CulturalIntelligence #CommunityEngagement #Leadership #WeeklyInsights

Recently I posted what was essentially a want ad for my employer Wise Way Security, a call for security workers interested in joining our team of Loss Prevention Officers (LPO). As a supplement to to that post here are some of the routine duties that LPOs are expected to carry out during their shift. ***** A key part of the retail security sector, and one of the primary services offered clients by Wise Way Security, is that of Loss Prevention Officers (LPO). Working within a retail outlet, wearing street clothes and looking like any other shopper, an LPO’s job is to remain as inconspicuous as possible, while watching for shoplifters or other unwanted activity. Working in concert with the store’s regular employees the LPO will travel the aisles, often with a shopping basket or cart, watching for problems. The role and the sole function of the job is to deter and reduce theft. Loss Prevention Officers are fully trained and licenced security workers who very likely also function as uniformed guards at other locations, depending on the types and variety of contracts their employer has. If working in a large ‘big box’ venue it’s possible there will be more than one LPO present, especially if the store has a functioning video monitoring system. These surveillance systems are used to identify criminal activity, to coordinate efforts to arrest those involved in the activity and to recover the stolen goods. Mostly however a single Loss Prevention Officer will be in the store, working alongside the in-store staff. An LPO’s main function is to visually monitor suspicious individuals, often referred to as Persons of Interest (POI), while they move through the aisles. As the name suggests ‘Prevention’ is at the heart of this specialized service. By identifying individuals known to the guard, then encountering and safely escorting them from the premises, crime can be prevented before it takes place. Every store or retail outlet is different and will have specific needs and policies that must be addressed on an individual basis. An ability to successfully deal with people is one of the skills required to be an effective LPO. Not merely a representative of the company they work for, an LPO also represents the client they are tasked to serve. Being able to interact with everyone in a professional, calm, unbiased and fair way is essential. Having the skills and training to correctly observe and to write clear and concise reports should an incident occur is also essential. This includes having the communications skills and maturity to work alongside the police or other authorities in a professional manner. The LPO is there to work with the store’s staff, to free them to do their jobs without worrying about criminal activity, and to recover any goods that are taken. An important security function, Loss Prevention Officers are one of the backbone roles in the Canadian security sector and is currently one of Wise Way Security’s primary services.

Canada Advocacy Update! I’m very pleased to share that an amendment advanced by The Institute of Internal Auditors to Canada’s Critical Cyber Systems Protection Act has been adopted by the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security. The amendment formally defines internal audit within the legislation and recognizes the International Professional Practices Framework® (IPPF). This strengthens the bill and reinforces the importance of consistent, independent cybersecurity risk and compliance assessments across critical systems. This outcome reflects focused, constructive advocacy and collaboration. My thanks to Dane Lloyd M.P., for his leadership in introducing the amendment, to the committee members for their support and to our amazing advocacy team in Canada! The RCMP has not recruited enough new officers or effectively assigned its members to meet its operational needs, according to a new report from the auditor general — raising concerns about public safety across the country. "As a result of chronic shortages of front-line police officers, the RCMP faces a higher risk of police officer absences and burnout, which could make it more challenging for the force to prevent and investigate crime, maintain peace and order and contribute to national security," Auditor General Karen Hogan wrote in a report tabled Monday. Recruitment lags and staffing crunches have been some of the most pressing issues facing the RCMP, which is responsible for what's known as contract policing — the boots-on-the-ground work in most provinces, the three territories and more than 150 municipalities across the country. The Mounties are also responsible for federal policing, the increasingly in-demand core function of the organization which investigates cases including foreign interference, organized crime and counterterrorism. Despite flagging recruitment as a top priority since 2018, the auditor general's analysis of RCMP's data shows that the shortage of police officers has actually worsened Note - This content is from the posted article with no edits.

One shift I’ve seen over the course of leading investigative programs is how much impact improves when investigations are treated as measurable operational functions — not just reactive casework. Effective programs track more than case closure. They monitor intake patterns, escalation timelines, resolution consistency, and cross-functional outcomes. Those signals help identify systemic risk, improve governance, and guide leadership decisions. Some of the most valuable questions are operational: • Where are issues originating? • How long are investigations taking at each phase? • What trends are emerging across cases? • Which process adjustments reduce recurrence? Investigations generate insight — and insight should inform action. When organizations measure outcomes and apply lessons learned, investigations become a strategic capability rather than a compliance requirement. I value connecting with professionals working in investigations, risk, compliance, and trust & safety operations. Always interested in how others approach measurement and program effectiveness. #Investigations #RiskManagement #Compliance #TrustAndSafety #Leadership
