  • The Color of Home by Kit Tosello

Audrey Needham, Bay Area interior designer to the rich and pretentious, is down to her last nerve. Her boss is impossible to please, her future is in jeopardy, and her great-aunt Daisy needs support as her husband descends into Alzheimer’s.

When Daisy enlists Audrey’s help preparing for a move to assisted living, Audrey risks her career to return to the idyllic small town of Charity Falls, Oregon, the summer stomping grounds of her childhood. But Charity Falls was also the place that broke her heart when her father was killed in a tragic fire at the Sugar Pine Inn thirteen years ago.

Despite Audrey’s intent to avoid emotional entanglement, the pull of home is hard to resist. Something should be done about the deteriorating inn. A local girl with an incarcerated father needs a friend. And handsome local do-gooder Cade Carter is coloring Audrey all shades of uncertain.

Join award-winning writer and debut novelist Kit Tosello in this lyrical and often humorous exploration of how God redeems brokenness and draws us to the life we’re meant to find.

Kit Tosello’s debut novel The Color of Home begins a little slowly but then sweeps you in and doesn’t let go.

Audrey Needham feels obligated to take her coveted vacation time to visit her Aunt Daisy and Uncle Dean and help them move into an assisted living home. Once she gets to Charity Falls, she is surprised at the changes in her aunt and uncle, whom she hasn’t seen in years, and the sameness of the town. Plus, nothing goes as planned.

The story will cause a gamut of emotions as you read about past and present-day events and the personal loss, growth and faith they have wrought.

The Color of Home helps you realize home is more than a physical structure. It is the people you love, the town you are in and the feelings they evoke. I am glad I finished the novel, and I am sure you will enjoy it, too.

I received this book from Revell through NetGalley. However, my review is voluntary, and all opinions are my own.

  • Courting An Amish Bishop by Mindy Steele

    Publisher’s Summary

No One Is Ever Too Old to Love Again

Full of faith, hope, and romance, this series takes you into the Heart of Amish country.

Simon Graber became a widower and a bishop early in life. His focus is solely on his very close-knit Old Order Amish community—not entertaining the idea of marriage, despite what many of the elders think. When sickness comes to Cherry Grove, Kentucky, Simon reaches out into the next community for help. But help is beginning to look a lot like a second chance when Stella Schmucker agrees to offer her vast herbal knowledge to the sick. Can it be that these two, who have been too busy serving others to entertain the idea of love, have met at just the perfect time for an unlikely courtship?

Mindy Steele turns the premise of a typical Amish bishop imparting Amish wisdom on its head with Simon Graber as an Amish Bishop courting “Dok” Stella Schmucker in the novel, Courting An Amish Bishop.

Bishop Graber and Dok Stella have both had many heartaches, disappointments and losses to overcome. However, for albeit different reasons, neither really believe they are suitable for marriage, nor do they want to get married. Sometimes, though life takes over, and the ending is a surprise for everyone.

Since I was unaware that Courting An Amish Bishop was a part of “The Heart of Amish Series” until I had completed reading it, I found it works well as a standalone novel.

The novel is a must-read, a fantastic inspirational tale of love, faith, and second chances.

I received this book from Barbour through NetGalley. However, my review is voluntary, and all opinions are my own.
