Friday Five

If you’ve read my blog very long you know that I am a warm weather type of girl. I would rather have 100 degree days than 32 degree days. However, there are a few things I will miss about winter.

1. In the winter there isn’t bugs to wash off the front bumper of my Terrian.  My car gets washed during the summer once a week and once every other week during the winter.  So much easier to wash my car during the winter!

2. Wearing sweaters. I love sweaters. I have so many, but I love them.

3. I love being outside, but the summer sure brings a lot of things to do in the yard.  Once winter comes I like not having to be on the mower for 5 hours a week or pulling hoses to water all 8 million flowers plant in the spring.

4. I get a lot more sleep in the winter.  We are usually in bed by 9, but once summer gets here we’re lucky to have eaten by 9.

5. I will miss the cold wind. Okay so maybe I’m fibbing on #5. lol

Until this morning I wasn’t interested in the Royal wedding. Sure I was curious to see the wedding dress, but the rest I was just hoping Kate and William would elope. But then this morning at 7 I turned on NBC news and I got sucked right in.  Now I’m watching every video of the wedding.  I even watched the sermon the Bishop gave.

I’ve been holding this shoot me since February. My mom is a HUGE Chip Foose fan and I finally gave her this picture and his autograph on Sunday at Easter. So I can share with you all. The first celebrity I’ve met. Not really sure if he’s a celebrity, but he’s on TV so that counts in my books! lol

Way Back Wednesday

project56

I use to hang around with these three girls on a weekly basis.  But now I just talk to the one on the right. She was my bridesmaid.

Funny story. After supper everynight TNT and I hang out in the basement. Him on the brown leather couch and me on my old futon. I’m usually reading a book and he’s watching TV.  Tails roams between us, he’ll lay with me for a while then go snuggle with TNT for awhile.  On Monday night I was in a really good part of my book so when TNT said, “why?” I didn’t look at him.  Then TNT said, “Carrie why?” I still ignored him. I’m a good wife like that. Then he said, “Carrie why is Tails licking my eyebrows?” Let’s just say you can’t ignore that.  Sure enough there was Tails licking TNT’s eyebrows. WTH?

John Deer Green

TNT has this huge collection of JD stuff.  Some of it is from when he was growing up and even some of my toys are in this collection. Most of those toys that have been played with I just ran them through a sink of soapy water. But the real collectibles had to be dusted very carefully since some have delicate pieces.  The MIL gives TNT a new collectible every year and most of those have plastic cases to keep the dust off of them which is so handy.  I can’t imagine how long it would have taken me to clean all of them.  The four hours was enough for me.  I’m ashamed to say but I have lived here for over 5 years and this was the first time they’ve been cleaned. The MIL said it’s probably been 10 years since they’ve been cleaned.  I figure since they are up high on a shelves around the ceiling in the office not many people will see them. lol  I just knew the task of cleaning them was going to be a long process.

The whole time I was washing/dusting TNT’s collectibles I was singing that darn song by Joe Diffie.

On a hot summer night he wrote Billy Bob loves Charlene.

And the whole town said that he should have used red, but it looked good to Charlene.

In John Deere green. (You can all thank me for putting that song in your head today!)

Relaxing

At least someone can enjoy our patio furniture.

Sanchez got the crap kicked out of him. He wasn’t feeling so hot these last few days. He has a huge scratch down in his ear all the way to the side of his head and I’m pretty sure he’s blind in his left eye from a scratch. That makes me think he got in a fight with something other than another tom cat.

Friday Five

I love the show The Office.  I started watching it on Netflix about a year ago and I have been addicted ever since.  So today I’m going to give you my top five favorite episodes.  This will be hard cause really all of them are my favorite!

1. Season 1, Episode 5: Basketball Original Air Date—19 April 2005
Michael and his staff challenge the warehouse workers to a basketball game with a bet looming over both parties. I have this episode protected on my DVR cause I about die laughing every time I watch it.  Michael’s style of play kills me.

2. Season 3, Episode 1: Gay Witch Hunt Original Air Date—21 September 2006 Michael apologizes to Oscar, after he finds out he’s gay, for calling him a homosexual slur–but his apology outs Oscar to the entire office. And Jim decides to take a promotion at the Stamford office. The best part of this episode is the last 20 seconds. Even though Jim is in the Stamford office he can still mess with Dwight. He ends up sending Dwight a gaydar to help Dwight find out who in the office is gay. When Dwight runs it over his own body it starts beeping meaning Dwight is gay. I always rewind it to see Dwight’s reaction.

3. Season 2, Episode 1: The Dundies Original Air Date—20 September 2005 Very much unlike his staff, an overeager Michael can’t wait for this year’s annual Dundies awards. For the first time we really see that Pam also has a thing for Jim.  Usually you see Jim pining for Pam, but in this episode you can tell Pam likes him.

4. Season 4, Episode 9: Dinner Party Original Air Date—10 April 2008
Michael invites Jim and Pam and Andy and Angela to a couples-only dinner party, which makes Dwight very jealous. However, the only thing he’s missing is a ringside seat to witness Michael and Jan’s extremely dysfunctional home life. So many things to love in this episode.  Hunter’s song, the fact that Michael sleeps on a bench, the candles, the throwing the Dundies, Dwight’s gf, Jim and Pam trying to leave the party, Jim and Pam eating cheeseburgers afterwards. And of course Jan and Michael calling each other Babe non-stop!

5. Season 5, Episode 16: Blood Drive  Original Air Date—5 March 2009
Michael holds a lonely hearts party on Valentine’s Day at the office, hoping that he will run into a woman he met earlier that day at a blood drive. Meanwhile, Jim and Pam have an awkward lunch with Phillis and Bob Vance. When Michael says he hasn’t eaten for days to prepare for giving blood and then faints makes laugh every time.  Or when Jim and Pam realize Phyllis & Bob Vance of Vance Refrigeration are doing it in the bathroom, ewwww.

Honorable Mention: When Phyllis is flashed Dwight has Pam draw up a picture of the perp. Well she draws Dwight and he is posting fliers all over the place of himself. Jim tells Dwight to go look in the mirror above the sink and Jim has drawn the mustache on the mirror. When Dwight realizes what Pam has done he yells PAM! I love it!

Shoot Me

Forever In Blue Jeans

My friend The Cotton Wife is selling t-shirts for the Susan G Komen foundation.  I’m a sucker for anything that involves pink ribbons since my mom is SEVEN YEAR SURVIVOR!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s right my mom kicked cancer’s ass!  So I sent her a check for one shirt and she sent me two t-shirts.  One for me and one for Mildred. I have to say I wasn’t having the best day yesterday and when I ripped opened Jennifer’s package I felt a lot happier. Sometimes I wonder if there are still good people in this world. Well I have first hand experience that Jennifer Warthan is beyond what a good person is. Thank you Jennifer you are one of a kind.

Three years ago when we were getting the race car ready I asked TNT if I could put a pink breast cancer ribbon on the trunk. He said sure. Then I pushed my luck and asked if I could put “save the ta-ta’s” and amazingly he said yes. lol  Well it was all set to go, but the gal who makes our stickers ran out of pink sticker stuff and couldn’t finish the words.  Could you imagine a race car having that on it. lol

Fire + Gas = Danger

In yesterday’s post I talked about burning the trash pit. We only had one little hiccup with that when the fire jumped the pit and headed for the wheat stubble. Happy to say the fire was put out before it got out of hand.  Now enter my husband.  When the pit was dug three years ago we thought we were going to fill it back up once we burned all the trees. However, it’s come in pretty hand to dump boxes, pallets and dead tree limbs in.  Since we use the pit the pile of dirt that came out of the pit is still there.  Since we can’t mow it kosha/fireweeds grow on the mound of dirt.  Kosha is TNT’s nemesis. He hates it with a passion. So when he saw the chance to burn all the dried up kosha he went for it.

The first two times he did it right. He poured gas up on the mound then made a trail down the side of the dirt to light it.

The kosha would burn just the gas and then go out. TNT was getting angry about it so he walked up on the mound with the gas can and started really sprinkling gas everywhere.  Evidently there was still a flame somewhere and then there was the whooooofffffff sound when gas catches on fire. I heard a few bad words and looked to see my hubby high kneeing it off the mound of dirt. He didn’t burn any part of him but it was pretty close. lol And that’s when I called him a dumbass! He kept looking on his back to see if he was burning.

That’s my hubby.

Fire

Since we haven’t received much moisture this winter/spring there has been a ban on burning when it is windy. That ban hasn’t stopped some farmers from burning off their stubble fields. A four homes have been lost and acres burned because of foolish people on the whole west side of Kansas. Last week a dairy about 60 miles from us lost $1.7 million in hay and their pregnant cows aborted their calves when a fire went through.  All because a farmer thought it would be ideal burning conditions in 35 mph winds.  Every day there is a fire somewhere in our area. Some big some little.

So when my husband suggested we burn the trash pit on Saturday night I was a little hesitant to do it.

First we had to get everything ready incase the fire jumped out of the pit and started out stubble on fire. So we filled up the sprayer and a tank with water.

Then I stood around the fire taking pictures and watching to see if the fire jumped out of the pit.

Sure enough it did so I hauled my butt to the Morton building where TNT was pulled the tractor and disc out.  I was starting to panic cause it started moving pretty fast in the dry wheat stubble. The wind was barely a breeze, but I just knew if it got too big we wouldn’t be able to control it.

But TNT saved the day and was able to disc around it and then over it to put it out. If his dad was here he would have messed his pants. Using his new tractor to put out the fire. Heck the FIL freaked out when we went mudding with his Big Red.

At nighfall TNT took the disc and worked around the pit and then he sprayed water hoping to keep the fire from jumping during the night.  We were lucky that the wind stayed down all Saturday night and almost all day Sunday. I took the 4-wheeler out to the pit around midnight Saturday to check on it then I headed to bed.

Come back tomorrow to find out what isn’t safe to do with a fire cause my husband is a poster child for it!!!!!

NW Kansas Spring

Just because the calendar says Spring doesn’t mean we’ll have nice April showers. It means blizzards with 60 mph wind gusts. That’s what we had on Friday.  My boss called me Friday morning just before I was heading out the door to go to town and told me to stay home. He said there were cars stuck on the streets in town everywhere and he was closing the plant.

The only good thing about Springtime blizzards is the snow don’t last very long.

By 10 on Friday morning I could have gone to work, but I sat down on my tile floor and started scrubbing the grout. It’s a back breaking project, but my floor sure looks nice and clean now.

Plus the snow makes for some purdy pikures. 😉 This is the driveway.

We had about 3 inches of snow but the wind blew it all into drifts. This drift was about 4 1/2 feet high and on the north-west side of the house. This snow had a lot of moisture in it, but the problem was the wheat fields had nothing to hold the snow. So the snow blew into the stubble fields and around our house.

Blowing snow. When we were in the house the wind rattled the windows. Do you remember watching Little House on the Prairie and the Ingalls would get a blizzard. The wind howling around their cabin sounded just like it did in my house.  It was kind of scary!

By Saturday I was walking around without a jacket all day and very little snow remained. This morning when I looked out all we had was about a foot left of that drift in the back yard.
