Growing up we spent a lot of time down in my Grandma’s pasture fishing in her creek. It was a whole family event with my mom, dad, sister and my gma. Sometimes my other grandparents would come too. That’s the benefit of living close to both sets of grandparents you get to see them often. I remember my mother saying not to get close to the water cause if we fell in she wasn’t coming in after us so we’d drown. And people wonder why Mildred and I are scared of water and won’t get out of the perfectly good boat onto a tube. I just know my life jacket will fail and I’ll sink to the bottom (even though I can now swim). Good times! Anyway I do have a point, on Labor Day Mildred and I went out to my gma’s to go fishing. She’s been gone since February 2010 and this was the first time we’ve been out to her farm since then. My uncle lives there now and we had a nice time catching up with him. Then we went fishing!
People talk about going to a place and just feeling a sense of calm. Well this is where my calm place is. It’s where I feel the closest to my gma. We had so many good memories out in her pasture together. I took this picture of her the last time we went fishing probably about 5 years ago.

I just love this place. After my family moved from the farm to town Mildred and I would spend out summers and most weekends out at one of the grandparents farms. When we’d stay at this gma’s we’d go beaver hunting. On the east side of this pasture she had beavers that build dams so we’d sit down there for hours just waiting to see one. Of all the time we spent only once did we see one. But it was a great time.

Something we realized as we were fishing. The only time we ever put a worm on a hook, take the fish off the hook then eat a sandwich without washing our hands and then half way through the sandwich you get a (fishing) bite so you put the sandwich down on the ground (not near a cow patty though). Only fishing would you even think to do those things.

While Mildred was eating her sandwich the cows had gathered around us pretty close. So I took off running and screaming at them. Mildred then began to choke on her sandwich because she was laughing. Don’t worry she survived and the cows came back to investigate again.

I found Mildred a feather to wear in her hair. Then she forgot about it! lol

I caught this carp. We practice catch and release. Just cause the fun is in catching them!

The lines on the bamboo poles were old and brittle so I started replacing the lines on the three poles. Of course I got a few lines caught in trees and had to replace the line AGAIN!

Then I broke one of the poles when I pulled a good-sized bullhead out. I used the pole anyway!

Then Mildred took a picture of me as I was taking pictures.

Sitting on the bank and not catching anything! I wish it was still this green about 60 miles west. We are dry dry dry!
