Mouse in the House ~ Round 2
Posted in House on October 27, 2015| 3 Comments »
Back in August we had a mouse in the house. Sonic caught it a few days after that post was created. Well last week I was in bed trying once again to catch a few more precious minutes of sleep when I heard TNT, who was coming out of the shower, start hollering.
“Get it Sonic. Get it.”
“Don’t let go Sonic. Don’t let go!”
I hear kitty paws and human feet running around in the dining room.
“Catch it Sonic. Get it Get it!”
“Good kitty. Now I have to take it from you. Sorry you did a great job, but I have to throw it outside.”
I heard the sliding glass door open. Then close.
Problem solved.
That evening I got home from work and TNT got home from the corn field. He told me what happened on his way to the shop after he was dressed and ready to start his day.
It was still dark out and he saw something small on the cement slab. As he got close he thought it looked like a mouse. He thought it wasn’t the mouse that Sonic caught since he’d thrown it 30 feet on the cement slab. Surely it didn’t survive the 30 foot throw onto the cement slab. Well sure enough it was the mouse standing up on it haunches watching him. All he had in his hands was a pizza box and a bag of trash. So he’s running around trying to kill the mouse with a pizza box and a bag of trash. Didn’t go so well as the mouse ran back up to the house and up through a hole where electrical wires go under the siding on the house……We now have a mouse in the house again…..
Because of this mouse activity I believe we are going to be in for one hell of a winter….as long as it brings lots of snow for our crops I am all for it, but if it is just going to be cold. Boo
Editing Buddy

I am busy at work now with sunflower harvest so I can’t get much editing time there. Tuesday night after supper I sat down and started working on Jace’s sr. pics. Everything was going great.
Then someone thought they’d been neglected since I was gone all day at work, then came home and cleaned the garden.
Then he folded himself on my lap like he did when he was little. It’s a tighter fit now.
The Garden is GONE!

Tuesday night was the night I dread every year. Garden clean up time. By this time I’m normally ready for the garden to be over with, but it is a lot of work to pull everything out.
I still had a few pumpkins I had to gather up.
TNT helped take a few loads to the burn pit with the skid steer.
I took two loads with the little tractor.
Bye tomatoes.
I had over 60 pumpkins (volleyball size or larger), close to 150 mini pumpkins. . I believe I had around 30 pink pumpkins. I’m not real sure what I’ll do next year since we will be super busy in the spring because of Mildred’s wedding. Maybe just a small one.
I still need to pick up my flags, posts and milk jugs, but that doesn’t really matter if it rains. They don’t rot like the veggies do.
2016 Planner

I am reviewing this product, but I am not getting anything in return from the company!
I was introduced to Erin Corden planners by a friend on FB a few weeks ago. I checked it out and saw that I loved the layout and the room to write. Most planners I’ve used for my photo biz in the past have small calendar squares. With most of my business being on the weekends the spaces inside the planner are just too small. So when my friend shared an inside the planner page with me I saw little hearts.
Yes it is a little spendy. I cried to Mildred that I had spent $75 on a planner and supplies, but I knew it would be a good thing. Heck I already have 5 seniors to write down in there for the summer!! WhooHoo!
Front cover. The front and back covers are laminated with hard plastic. Very nice with as hard as I am on planners.
With my order I received a coupon for a free customized cover (just pay shipping). I went in and ordered a cover that has my biz logo with the basketball and football. I can not WAIT to get it.
The ring is heavy duty wire.
It’s about 2 inches thick.
It is a little snug going into my purse. It measures 7×9 inches which is a little big, but I’m willing to sacrifice that for a planner that I like.
Bells and whistles that were included. A front and back pocket folder
Two sheets of stickers like these and then two sheets of blank stickers to use on your own. They also included a “gift pack” that has more stickers and a I call a clear pouch to keep things in.
I added a pen holder onto my order. I use pencil all the time so I thought having one attached to my planner would be a good option for $2.50.
I also ordered these little post it notes. I like that they fit on the full calendar page in the little boxes. That way if I have something other than photo session I can put this on top. I think these were $7 for 300. I don’t think I’ll use very many, but I’ll be able to move them to the following years calendar since they are easy to pull out of the binder. I also ordered a snap in card that I can write on using a dry erase marker. I’ll keep that in the full calendar month. I thought that would be nice if I’m jotting ideas down. That also can be moved to other calendars.
August was one of my busiest months and this is how I had to fill everything in.
I already have a few dates in for 2016 so this is what those pages look like. Something else that was really nice they included the remainder of 2015 in this planner even though I did not select it. If I’d had selected it they would have charged me $10. So this was a fun surprise. Now I get to start using it now!
This is what I’m very excited about. Look at how big the weekly area is! When I have a session I like to jot down ideas for locations, time, how many family/friends with be coming along, what the client will be wearing, time, or if I need to call any landlords for permission to use the locations and their #’s. In the planners I’ve had before there wasn’t room for this, but now I have plenty. I’m very excited about it.
When I get my custom cover I’ll share it with you!
Wedding Prep Part 2

Even thought it was really windy on Sunday I still wanted to get one project done on my landscaping. You remember the work I did on the west side of the house a few weeks ago digging out the red lava rock. I want to put the rubber mulch in that area but wasn’t sure how it would looks so when I went to Hays on Friday I bought 10 bags to try.
This area on the east side of the front porch and up to the basement door doesn’t grow much. It is very sandy and it seems grass is the only thing that grows.
Here are my before picture. I was looking off the patio to the front of the house.
Looking at the the area from the front side.
First I pulled all the edging stones out and cleaned the area between where they sat and the cement. Next I dug out all the grass that had grown so healthy with a shovel. After that I laid down landscaping fabric. I was torn what to use. Plastic starts to break if it sets for too long (which is what the west side of the house did) so I went with this fabric. However, I don’t think it is as sturdy as plastic.
Then it was time to put the mulch down. I got the Mocha Brown which is dark.
I really really like it!
I wanted to see how this mulch would look before I spend a lot on the west side of the house. I’m also going to wait until right before the wedding to put it down. I want that side of the house to look fresh since that’s where the ceremony will be.
TNT said it is too plain now, but I like it….He’s not the one that has to clean it all out when the grass and the few flowers I do get to grow die. For the wedding I might put some potted plants in the area closer to the porch to add color. I also thought about putting the metal art I bought at the Girls Day Out in this area, but then I’d be poking holes in the fabric and I don’t want to do that. So we will see. I’d really like to do all my flower beds this way because I hate the upkeep and clean up of the 4 o’clocks. They are easy to grow and look nice but then the end of the summer they fall over and drop millions of seeds.
I bought 10 bags for $70 and three bags left over after this project. The west side of the house is going to take probably 30 bags, but I think it’ll look really nice and so much better than the darn red lava rock.
Here’s a close up of the mulch.
2015 Week 42

It was another crazy week. Monday I took my friend Shea’s family pictures. They have a 6th month old cutie. Tuesday night I went to high school volleyball games. Friday, I was supposed to ride with Susan to Brady’s game 4 hours northeast of here, but Susan’s brother came up from Oklahoma for the game and they decided to stay in Central KS for the weekend. That was going to be fine because i was going to ride with them then hitch a ride home with a client/friend Tera. But then Tera’s son was super sick and didn’t go to school all week and stayed home from the game. Brady’s team got a HUGE 48-12 victory over a tough district opponent. Hopefully the wheels are turning in the right direction now and the streak will continue. Since I didn’t go to Brady’s game ended up going to the OHS game 60 miles east of here. I ran to Hays and did some shopping and hit Home Depot before the game.
I used my 85mm f/1.8 lens for the game. I’ve never really used this lens since I bought it for Mildred’s camera. I really want the f1.2, but this one will do for now. I was pleased with the shots I got considering the lights on the field were horrible. I shot at f/2.0 the whole night with 1200 ISO. I was surprised there wasn’t more grain in the picture with it being that high.
#5 has been a sports client for 2 years now and I just had his senior pictures last week….he was the one who got half naked….well anyway he had a monster game and scored 3 TD with one of them being an amazing catch! They won 19-14. I normally don’t cheer, but I cheered when the OHS kid picked off a pass inside the 10 yard line.
#68 has also been a sports client for 2 years and I had his senior session Saturday night.
After a victory the OHS team comes to the sidelines and sings the school fight song to the crowd. I get chills every time and I think it is a great tradition.
Saturday morning Sonic was ready for me to get out of bed at 7:30. 😦
I bought a treat for Molly at the pet treat store in Hays. The ear thing is what happens when I have a camera pointed at her. No matter if it’s a real camera or my phone.
Can’t forget this handsome dude who turned 15 in August. Can you believe how good he looks at 15!
Sure Go Ahead and Get Half Naked

I have one more senior session on Saturday and then I am done for the year! This year has blown my mind with how many clients I had. A normal year is 7 or 8 well I’ll have completed 18 on Saturday. I absolutely love senior sessions, and the kids I’ve had this year were so awesome! I’m not kidding every single one of them was polite, fun to work with and loved their pictures. What a great combination! However, there one session that sticks out in my mind.
I received a message from Mrs. R in May saying that her son Coy wanted me to take his senior pictures. Mrs. R has been a sports client for two years now so I was very excited they wanted to book his senior session. We scheduled for October 10th. I met up with Mrs. R in August when I did a session with the senior football boys at OHS to make the big banner for the football field. Afterwards I asked her if they had certain places they wanted to go or a certain picture he wanted. She kind of laughed and said yes Coy has one shot that he talks about all the time. He wants one in his football pads and a baseball bat across the back of his shoulders. I asked if he would be wearing a jersey and she said no just his pads. I asked her if she was okay with that shot. She said yep, he’ll only have that body for a while so he might as well have pictures of it. Great thoughts mom, but awkward for the photog! I always require a parent to be there for the session so they can’t say I didn’t anything inappropriate with their son.
Let me just say that I always feel super awkward when my seniors want to get undressed. It’s just not right. I feel like I’m breaking the law by photographing a kid like that. It’s not like he’s naked, but it’s just weird to have a kid undress. Which is weird since I use to do Ooh La La’s but those ladies were of age.
Last Tuesday I called Mrs. R and we talked locations and she informed me that her and her husband were going to their sons’ college football game and so it would just be me and Coy. I kind of panicked since I knew Coy still wanted to do that shot. I asked Mrs. R if she was sure it was okay that Coy got half undressed with me. She laughed and said yes. Mrs. R told me he’s not in wrestling shape with the six pack since he can eat whatever he wants during football.
I thought about that shot the rest of the week. Worried about that shot the rest of the week would be more like it. Finally Saturday came and I met him at their house at 5:00. We went to an old farmstead and took some pictures. It went fine we had a good time even though he didn’t talk a lot. I’ve seen him with his buddies so I know he is pretty funny and very ornery! I’m sure he thought does this woman ever shut up? But it’s weird if there is no talking so I just kept talking and asking him stuff. It was funny because a butterfly wouldn’t leave him alone when we were in the tree row. He’d get up and walk and it would flutter above his head. Then when he stopped to pose it would land on his hat. I asked if he had a girlfriend and he said nope. I said well once girls see these pictures you’re gonna have them all over you. Which embarrassed him, BUT I got a real smile out of him which was great!
It was finally time for the dreaded picture. We went to the OHS football field and down into the locker room. I sat up my lights and got everything ready. We were talking and I could tell he was nervous too because he kept giggling which was something he hadn’t done before. Then I said, “okay time for you to put on your pads.” I busied myself looking at pictures on my camera so I wouldn’t watch him take off his shirt. I should probably explain that he wrestles 170 but I’d guess he’s up to 185. He’s a good sized kid with nice arms and shoulders!
He stood where we are taking the picture and he flexed his biceps and abs. I seriously lost my train of thought. It was a good thing my camera was up to my face or he’d have seen my eyes looking everywhere but his face. I don’t care if you are 80 years old, you would have lost your train of thought looking at him. The session progressed and we finished with the shots that he wanted. I then suggested he sit down on the bench. He shook his head no. I asked why and he said well my fat will show if I’m sitting down. I literally busted up laughing. I said Coy I know I’m just an old lady but you look perfectly fine and you have no fat! I couldn’t help myself. Then he kept feeling to see if his belly was showing. Like he had anything to worry about.
We finished the shots at this location and went back to our vehicles. I really wanted to tell him lets just finish this session with you wearing your jeans…no shirt! But then I thought that MIGHT be crossing the line!
Here’s a shot of him. Since he’s under 18 I’m not showing his face, but giving you an idea of why I lost my train of thought!
You are welcome!

My booth was next to a gal who does metal art. My dad also does this as a part time job, but he is so busy with his real job that he just doesn’t have the time. My dad taught me how to use a plasma cutter to do this stuff and I use to make my own all the time, but just like everyone else I don’t have the time anymore. The gal who I bought this stuff from uses a laser to do all this. She creates the design on her computer then the laser cuts the metal. It’s so cool and I’d love to do stuff like this, but we are talking big bucks.
I saw this wheat art right away and bought it. I just fell in love with it.
As they restocked their booth I kept an eye out for more stuff that I “needed.” This turkey was so cute and I bought it.
I’ve started really liking owl stuff, but I’m picky about what it is. Weird I know. I have those super cute stuffed owls in the house and then I just had to have this little guy.
I put him in the tree ring.
