my dog ate what?

should you or do you feed your dog raw soup bones (the marrow)???  well, sometimes I do… however, this past week cici had one and ate the whole thing… it was frozen, she ate it over a few hours, and it was large… a few hours later, she was panting and just plain acting weird, finally, she threw up a few times, and by about midnight, she finally stopped panting and came to bed… the next few days she had the runs (diarrhea)… I fed her lightly and was quite concerned that she might have swallowed a big chunk that might have gotten caught and clogged up her intestines… the vet said she would have to have x-rays ($100) and possibly exploratory surgery (thousands)… so if I EVER give her a raw bone again, it will be MUCH Smaller… and I will monitor her more often… I was watching her but was surprised when the whole thing was GONE…

The other night watched a show on National Geographic about stuff that dogs eat… and usually had to have surgery for because it threatened their life/health… $800 in $20 bills (the dog was able to throw those up like a doggie ATM), a huge spoon, a clothes hanger, fish hooks, thong underwear and other crazy things…

Dog day afternoons at doggie daycare camp, K9 approved Four Paws Up…

These mutts of ours have it ruff ruff, bow wow… I tell Cici all the time when she’s whining about something trivial like I haven’t played with her in five minutes that she’s so deprived… NOT… spoiled rotten pup…

 

 

I have never taken her to doggie daycare or doggie camp but am very inspired by these places below… I picked places around the country that just seemed like a lot of fun… what pet owner wouldn’t want to leave their dog for a day, a week or two at a doggie ranch where the pooches play inside and outside, romp, work, swim, and are teamed up with dogs who match their energy, size, and temperament?  Some of these places have acres of fun, a structured environment, sometimes play, naps, meal times, individual attention (the best ones, I think), to give the pups the best of all worlds… and best of all they are cage free… no steely stark hard cold jail-like confinements for these mutts… some have comfortable homes with couches and others give the mutts and their owners a choice of accommodations. It’s a dog’s life!

 

If you are an owner or manager of a doggie daycare ranch or resort or if you know someone, I would LOVE to work with you (especially if you are in a warmer climate, California, here we come again !)   and I also would like to visit and write about the experience, so invite us for a visit and we will let the world know about you!

it has been snowing all week, brrrrrr…. and while Cici loves to play in the snow, her mom, wants to move south asap… and I would love a job where I could bring my dog to work…  and I also work freelance…

spoiling your dog rotten… she’s such a silly brat…

 

 

my dog is a spoiled brat and proud of it… she was growling at me last night because I had the audacity to feed myself and not give her any scraps… she had food in her bowl waiting for her to chow down but she had to see what I had first before she would touch it… yes, I have on occasion been known to share my food with her… and now she expects people food as part of her diet…  a little bit of turkey, chicken, scrambled eggs with turkey ham, hot dogs, cheese and such… I was hungry last night and did not give her anything… tsk tsk tsk… 

 

we got the carpet cleaned yesterday and I took her with me, it was cold outside but she was better behaved in the car than she would have  been at home, I gave her a nice big juicy new bone to chew and she gnawed away… I checked in on her often and took her for a walk or three… 

 

 

So now I have a dream/vision… and a dog who seriously needs her nails clipped… she does not like to bathe, although she likes to be in the bathroom while I take a shower, go figure… nor will she let me near her paws…. I cut her nails twice, one nail at a time, and cut the quick the first time out, so she’s a bit leery… understandably… 

 

anyway, back to my dream… a doggie healing center, complete with a holistic vet, animal communicator, doggie day camp/ranch, K9 spa, massage, groomer, swim pool/aqua paws, dog cuisine/chef, canine reflexology, barkery, a one stop shop for your pooch…

why dogs bury bones…

my dog had an extra juicy new raw bone and I guess it was more valuable than the other ones because this one she buried underneath her blanket, to make sure that no one else found it. Except that I was watching her at the time… and she figured she’d throw in one of the other bones, too, what the heck. She spent about four hours chewing that bone and a few minutes burying it. And a half hour running around like crazy outside. There was a towel out there that froze in the snow, now the snow is almost all melted but she liked tossing that dirty old towel around and chewing on it, too. She likes a real challenge. Don’t know why she didn’t bury the bones outside. Maybe she thought it would be more convenient to have the bones inside. Just in case it snows outside… 

The forecast keeps saying that it is going to snow but so far it hasn’t. Can’t wait to get to the beach, this time next week, we will be there… Here is why dogs bury bones… from several perspectives…
