For those of us who can only attend in spirit, take a picture of yourself holding a candle and include your own beloved furry family members. Post it to the Candlelight Vigil for Lennox Facebook page or the Save Lennox Facebook page to show your support. These pictures are just another way to show support for Lennox and to put faces with the names of the countless advocates around the world who have been so dedicated in the fight to save this innocent life.

Official Statement From Lennox’s Family:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all again for your messages of support. We are sorry to say at the present time Belfast city council seem to be intent on killing our boy. Despite previous assurances otherwise, we have been denied the opportunity to say goodbye. We have also been told that we cannot collect his body and bring Len home. We have been informed however that we will receive “some” ashes in the mail.

Belfast City Council, what utter arrogance, hubris, disrespect and cruelty to tell this family the above. These are NOT human beings.

as far as I am concerned the BCC are heartless, cruel animal abusers.  How many opportunities they were given to DO THE RIGHT THING but they are bound and determined to punish an innocent dog and a sick, disabled child and family. How vindictive can these bureaucrats be?

More than 200,000 people worldwide, celebrities, expert dog trainers and others have all asked for clemency, written numerous articles, letters and emails, made countless phone calls, all to fall on DEAF EARS.

Why have numerous requests to rehome Lennox been ignored?  What would it have cost the BCC/Northern Ireland government? NOTHING. They could have saved face and DONE THE RIGHT THING.

But apparently NONE of that matters. Stubborn, hard hearted people who paid someone to condemn an innocent and who also refused the dog medical care. The dog was in good health and never harmed anyone. In the BCC’s isolated cell, the dog lost fur, sustained numerous injuries, besides being kept alone from his family WITHOUT PROPER and BASIC CARE.

All of our worse fears are confirmed. That Lennox must be in such horrendous near death condition that is the ONLY reason that the BCC could possibly have for HIDING him away from the public.  Victoria Stilwell and Sarah Fisher are RIGHT THERE now in Belfast awaiting to take Lennox to the USA and the BCC REFUSES to meet with them.

The only conclusion one can assess is out of this is that if Lennox were to be turned over to Victoria Stilwell, Cesar Milan, the Italian government, Jeff Coltenback or numerous others who offered their homes and to PAY for ALL EXPENSES, someone (s) would be witness to what the BCC have done to this dog.

And for the sake of NO ONE being a witness to the extent of the cruelty of the BCC, the dog is going to be murdered.

What a hateful bunch of zombies, no heart, no soul, just cruel inhuman beings.

They deserve to be held accountable for their crimes against this dog and this family.

Tonight at 10 pm there will be a candlelight vigil for Lennox in Belfast, Ireland.

World loves Lennox

A disabled young girl in ill health, an innocent dog and a world full of dog lovers… vs. cruel bureaucracy in Belfast, Ireland… Please show your support for Lennox…

First Minister Peter Robinson calls for Lennox to be rehomed to the USA

from Victoria Stilwell... Still no response or movement from the BCC today, but NI’s First Minister has publicly joined the calls asking them to let me take him to the US. Let’s hope the mayor and council are willing to listen to him. Meanwhile, news outlets continue to apply pressure…http://on.msnbc.com/NaUN01

please please remain polite with all bcc correspondence and keep mailing Mrs O’Neill and Mr Adams.  When you write ask:

Mrs O’Neill and Mr Adams,
Please offer another application to the court for other options to be reconsidered for Lennox!

Mr George Richardson from the HIGHCOURTS of Belfast has just confirmed that although there is a destruction order that the matter of rehoming Lennox to Victoria Stillwell is ENTIRELY in the hands of BCC!! Needless to say keep polite in all emails to bcc and Mrs O’Neil of DARDNI whilst asking for them to release Lennox for rehoming with Victoria Stilwell.
please please remain polite with all bcc correspondence and keep mailing Mrs O’Neill and Mr Adams

Latest word from Victoria Stilwell is that the BCC has not responded to her requests to meet with her.

On Sunday, she told msnbc.com in an emailed statement: (Victoria stilwell)
“Despite my repeated public and private requests for a meeting with the Belfast City Council to discuss positive alternatives to the euthanasia of Lennox, they have inexplicably refused to even discuss these possibilities with me, the family or their legal team. Although I’ve previously given the benefit of the doubt about the BCC’s motives, I now fear that their collective decision-making has been clouded by personal and potentially vindictive reasoning while exhibiting an unreasonable obstinance to even exploring positive solutions. I sincerely hope they relent and accept my offer of an all-expenses paid, face-saving rehoming process for this poor dog.”

“Spent a great afternoon with the courageous and beautiful Barnes family in Belfast. Their passion not only for saving Lennox but also for making the world safer for all dogs is humbling and awesome to behold. No matter the outcome, we must all unite worldwide to overturn BSL everywhere and make sure their ordeal has not been in vain.

Inexplicably, thus far the Belfast City Council has denied my repeated requests to meet privately and discuss alternatives for Lennox. We’re not finished fighting this, though, and will keep you updated.”

Final Push… please send email below to the following…
private.office@dardni.gov.uk, contact@attorneygeneralni.gov.ukSubject: Please support the plea for the Royal Prerogative of Mercy for LennoxCopy and paste this exact wording and sign your name:I am writing to you as one of over 182,500 people worldwide who have signed a petition to support and demand the release of Lennox who is currently held at an unknown location by Belfast City Council. Following a legal appeal heard by the Court of Appeal NI, Lennox has been sentenced to die and we urgently request a stay of execution of the dog Lennox by the power vested in you until the following has been clarified:
A request for clemency has been submitted to Her Majesty the Queen and to all senior politicians in Northern Ireland, requesting that Lennox be spared the death sentence and be allowed to be exported out of the UK to wheresafe sanctuary is waiting for him.
We believe there have been irregularities in the judicial handling of the case and there is worldwide anger and serious reservations concerning the treatment of the dog and that this may be a cover-up to hide the damage done to him while in the care of Belfast City Council
Failing clemency, with no permission to export, the right of the family to have a final visit with their dog and be allowed to receive his body (currently rumoured to be withheld by Belfast C.C) is surely a basic right for a family grieving for their family member.
A death penalty, issued to an innocent animal, is due to be executed by Tuesday 10th July. Lennox, a much loved family companion, was seized two years ago, by council officials in Belfast City Council as an alleged “pit bull type”, he has been ordered by the courts to be destroyed and this decision was tragically upheld by the Court of Appeal NI.
Lennox has never harmed anyone; he has been prosecuted based on his appearance-for looking the wrong shape and size under breed specific legislation in NI.
Her Majesty the Queen and all senior politicians are urgently requested to use the Royal Prerogative of Mercy, which we understand starts where the law finishes and applies where a conviction and sentence has been arrived at; Lennox’s family and thousands of supporters worldwide plead for mercy.
We understand that The Royal Prerogative has been applied in NI, being used in the past by the then Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Mandelson and that a Judicial Review IN THE HIGH COURT OF JUSTICE IN NORTHERN IRELAND McGeough’s (Terence) Application[2012] NIQB 11 also examined this power as did a Judicial Review (EWHC 3102 Admin) on 17th Dec. 2008 in the case of Michael Shields before the High Courts of Justice in London. We understand that it should only be exercised where no other remedies exist and that the effect of a pardon is not to quash the conviction but releases the recipient from “all pains, penalties and punishments whatsoever that from the said conviction may ensure”.
Please, we beg you, to intervene, order a stay of execution; whilst you investigate an application for clemency and any and all other legal routes to enable Lennox to be exported out of Northern Ireland. Failing that, please insist on a stay of execution so that a clear and transparent investigation is carried out in this case so that this dog is not wrongfully put to death and doubts regarding his current condition are set at rest.
Citizens from all over the world are asking you to restore faith in the judicial system on behalf of the citizens of Northern Ireland.
I beg you to intervene urgently, please order a stay of execution and have this case investigated urgently and any and all avenues to enable the export of Lennox fully reviewed.

can u help a lil girl and her service dog? His name is Lennox & he was taken away 2 yrs ago http://www.twitlonger.com/show/hr305p

Here is a letter I wrote and a list of celebrities on twitter.  Ask Ellen and Anderson to have the Barnes family on the show to tell their story.

Dear Betty White, Brad Pitt, Katherine Heigl, Alicia Silverstone, Martha Stewart, Rachael Ray, Jon Stewart, Madonna, Linda Blair, Jennifer Aniston, Bernadette Peters, and other dog lovers,

    • A disabled child and her service dog need your help asap.
    • Brooke Barnes is a 13 year old girl in Belfast, Ireland. Her dog, Lennox, was taken from her home in May 2010 because “he looks like a pit bull.” He is an American Bulldog and Labrador mix.  He has been isolated, left to sit in his own feces in a concrete cell hidden away from the world for two years now while the Barnes family have had to share their plight and go through legislation hierarchy in Ireland in order to get Brooke’s dog back. Lennox is Brooke’s “bestest friend.”
    • He is NOT a dangerous dog according to dog trainer experts Victoria Stilwell and Cesar Millan.
    • In fact, Lennox was at home with his family when officials from the Belfast city Council came to visit and seized him because “he looked like a pit bull.” He never showed any sign of aggression. He was mostly at home, muzzled and leashed when taken out in public, microchipped, neutered and in good health.
    • Now Lennox and Brooke’s health are both failing due to this long ordeal. And another Judge has ordered that Lennox be destroyed, based on the testimony of a Dog Warden. There are photos of this Dog Warden with Lennox showing him licking her in the face (see link to article below for proof).
    • Clearly, Lennox needs to GO HOME. He is not a danger to anyone. And Brooke and his family need him to be safe.
    • Can you please help Lennox GO HOME?
    • Thank you.
    • Sincerely,

The Patrick Movement for NJ

A special request (as posted) ~~

“Would everyone please write an understated, respectful, non-hysterical plea to the Belfast City Council? I wrote one, you are welcome to use it or just compose one from the heart. These are not petitions or hate letters; just appeals to reason and compassion; we have nothing to lose by trying.

“To: complaints@belfastcity.gov.uk

here is my letter:
Dear Sirs,

Everyone in life has a choice to make each day, myriad of choices every day… to act for the highest good of all or not.. to hurt other people or to not inflict unnecessary pain. to play the role of a hero or a villain.  every time we make a choice, we step UP or FALL DOWN.  NO ONE ELSE is responsible for the choices we make. We are each, held accountable, as individuals for our choices.

What choice are YOU going to make regarding Lennox, an innocent dog who has been vilified for the way he looks and NO OTHER REASONABLE REASON?

Many thousands of people around the world are watching and DO NOT understand how you possibly have been able to justify taking an innocent service dog away from an innocent DISABLED child for two years, refused the dog all contact with his family, held him in isolated and dirty conditions, not allowed him to see a vet for his illness and other heartless cruelties all for the sake of WHAT???  Fear of what might happen????

Other options have been offered to you besides murdering this dog and so far our pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Famous dog experts from around the world have tried to intervene for the sake of the dog and his family.

The dog experts agree that Lennox is NOT a dangerous dog…

Does Lennox fit any of the criteria for a dangerous dog set forth in the Pit Bull Placebo by Karen Delise (a 20 year well researched book by a dog expert)?

Let’s look at the facts:

he supposedly LOOKS like a pit bull, that is his ONLY crime, you say he looks like a pit bull therefore, he must die?  he is a bulldog/Labradog cross  for this he must die?

he is not intact, he is neutered

not been chained up, he IS a beloved socialized therapy and family dog

not a guard dog

previous to his isolation, he was not an abused nor neglected dog

not a starved dog

not an unsupervised dog

never shown any sign of aggression, even in photos with your dog wardens

Lennox is NOT NOT NOT a dangerous dog yet he has been sentenced to die in Belfast, Ireland for no reason other than his looks????

Will you act IN GOOD FAITH TODAY AND LET LENNOX GO HOME or to a new home if you deem that necessary or will the eyes of the world watching you have to witness yet another cruel act done by you?????  Will you cause more pain today or will you let LOVE and wisdom Prevail????

It is your choice.

We pray that you DO THE RIGHT THING and take the HIGH ROAD and CHOOSE WISELY for the sake of a DISABLED CHILD and her family and the rest of humanity.

Sincerely,

CeliaSue Hecht
