Double trouble

Cici has a doppelganger (look alike)… see below photos… Her name is Hazel from Our Pack rescue. She was recently adopted. Isn’t she a cutie pie? She even has the spot on her forehead and polka dot ear that Cici has plus a black splotch on her rear and other polka dot spots. And she loves to play, too.

Pit bull myths

END BSL… Breed Discrimination in America

http://www.examiner.com/article/breed-discrimination-america?cid=db_articles

http://bslnews.org/2012/01/24/the-real-dog-bite-statistics-plus-media-myths-colleen-lynn-exposed/

Lies, negative stereotypes and myths

In the book Pit Bull Placebo by Karen Delise discusses how dogs of various breeds have been demonized since the 1800’s. People’s perception of ‘dangerous dogs’ has changed over the centuries.

http://nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/uploaded_files/publications/230603563_Pit%20Bull%20Placebo.pdf

Consider the impact of these images imprinted upon the human psyche  …

l. Eliza and her baby (Uncle Tom’s Cabin) being chased by snarling teeth gnashing Bloodhounds.

2. Super-predator Nazi guard Doberman Pinscher dogs became a symbol of cruelty

3. The Time Bomb Pit Bull depicted on the cover of Time magazine

“My kids are around pit bulls every day. In the ’70s they blamed Dobermans, in the ’80s they blamed German shepherds, in the ’90s they blamed the Rottweiler. Now they blame the pit bull.”    Cesar Millan.  “Pit bulls get a bad rap because of irresponsible owners.”

From the Pit Bull Placebo

“…for over half a century in between, 1920 to 1970, millions of Bulldogs, Bull Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers,  American Staffordshire Terriers and all their mixed breed cousins served Americans well in every possible capacity and circumstance.

‘…The first half of the 20th century finds new and different breeds involved in fatal/severe attacks. Collies, Boston Terriers, St. Bernards, Airedale Terriers, Great Danes, Chow chows, German police dogs (German Shepherds), Doberman Pinschers, and Huskies were only some of the new breeds seen in aggressive encounters with humans.”

A combination of the media’s need for scary pit bull stories (to sell papers), dog fighters using bully breeds for fighting, and society’s need to blame dogs for humanity’s problems have joined together to give the pit bull a very bad rap.

“…The early 1980s find the media continuously churning out emotionally charged articles about Pit bull anatomy and behaviors that were based on rumors, myths and unproven claims by both experts and laymen.

“When Pit bulls lost an arranged street fight they were subjected to unimaginable cruelty and violent deaths, because they became a source of embarrassment or failed to uphold the machismo image of their owners.”

“…In 2004 the media reported this Pit bull attacked and killed a 4-year-old boy. It was not reported that this chained, intact male dog was visibly underweight with numerous old scars on his head and neck. Veterinarian examination revealed the dog was heartworm positive, flea-infested, and suffering from internal parasites (hookworms). He was anemic with a low-grade fever and was diagnosed as having very poor body condition and muscle mass. Stress and wear marks along the teeth suggest the dog did not receive adequate nutrition during development. The dog was poorly socialized and very fearful.”

Find the pit…

Many people have never met a pit bull and could not pick one out of a lineup such as this…

http://www.pickthepit.com/

Pit bulls are not a breed of dog, there are numerous breeds all lumped together and called pit bull…American Pit Bull Terriers, Miniature Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Bull Dogs, Bull Terriers or mixed breeds that have the appearance or characteristics of one of these breeds…

Does this make ANY sense?

http://loveandaleash.com/2012/06/21/one-of-these-dogs-is-or-is-not-like-the-other-defining-a-pit-bull-dog/

There are NO incidents to date of a spayed/neutered indoor family pit bull ever having killed anyone.

…[S]ince 1975, dogs belonging to more than 30 breeds have been responsible for fatal attacks on people, including Dachshunds, a Yorkshire Terrier, and a Labrador Retriever.” (It’s also key to point out that you are more likely to be killed by lightening than a dog, and dog bites are at historic lows.)

Pit Bull: Fact or Fiction

1:  Pit bulls are inherently dangerous, as the Maryland Court of Appeals recently labeled them.

Fiction

It’s all in the upbringing, the socialization, and how their owners treat them.

German Shepherd Dog, American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT), and Rottweiler were tested using a bite sleeve equipped with a specialized computer instrument to measure bite pressure. The APBT had the least amount of pressure of the 3 dogs tested. (Source: Dr. Brady Barr of National Geographic)

“There is no scientific evidence that one kind of dog is more likely than another to injure a human being than any other kind of dog.[i][ii] In fact, there is affirmative evidence to the contrary.[iii]

http://nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/dogbites/whatisadogbite/

Numerous places have recently repealed their bans on pit bulls/bully breeds aka Breed Specific Legislation.

Cincinnati Ohio’s vicious dog ordinance, which previously made ownership of pit bulls within city limits illegal has been repealed.

2. Pit bulls have locking jaws that make it virtually impossible to separate a pit bull from people or animals they bite.

Fiction.  There’s no scientific data to back that up. They’ve actually studied it and found that the pit bull skull is no different than any other dog. There’s no locking mechanism.

Dr. Lehr Brisbin of the University of Georgia wrote:

“The few studies which have been conducted of the structure of the skulls, mandibles and teeth of pit bulls show that, in proportion to their size, their jaw structure and thus its inferred functional morphology, is no different than that of any breed of dog. There is absolutely no evidence for the existence of any kind of “locking mechanism” unique to the structure of the jaw and/or teeth of the American Pit Bull Terrier.”

3.

Pit bulls are unpredictable and more likely to bite people than other dogs.

Fiction. There are known factors that contribute to dogs of all breeds biting and becoming dangerous. If the dog is male, not neutered, kept chained or roams loose in a pack, etc.

Factors that affect a dog’s tendency toward aggression include reproductive status, sex, early experience and socialization/training. According to the Centers for Disease Control, these concerns are well-founded, given that:

More than 70 percent of all dog bite cases involve unneutered male dogs.

An unneutered male dog is 2.6 times more likely to bite than is a neutered dog.

A chained or tethered dog is 2.8 times more likely to bite than a dog not chained or tethered.

97 percent of dogs involved in fatal attacks on people in 2006 (the most recent year statistics are available) were not spayed/neutered.

A female dog usually chained with a litter of newborn puppies

Guard dogs

Abused dogs

Neglected dogs

Starved dogs

Unsupervised dogs, roaming loose

Unsocialized dogs

All dogs, before they bite, give warning signals.

Three MOST aggressive breeds

The number one aggressive breed out of the 33 dogs surveyed, The Dachshund. Yes – the wiener dog. The study found that “one in five dachshunds have bitten or tried to bite strangers, and a similar number have attacked other dogs; one in 12 have snapped at their owners.”

“Number two on the list is an even more diminutive breed – the Chihuahua, while Jack Russells came in third.

“The researchers say that the bite statistics that have been released in recent years are skewed because most dog bites are not reported. Big dog bites are more likely to require medical attention, but this does not mean that those breeds are doing the majority of the biting.”

http://www.dogguide.net/blog/2008/07/the-3-most-aggressive-dog-breeds-revealed-pit-bulls-rottweilers-youll-be-surprised/

4. Pit bulls are good with children.

Fact.  Pit bulls were considered the nanny dog.   Consider ‘The Little Rascals.’  Petey was a pit bull and he never hurt Alfalfa or any of the Little Rascals.

Adopting a pit bull

Of the 4 to 6 million dogs and cats still being killed in shelters each year, most – roughly 1.5 million – are pit bulls. The great majority of these are healthy, good natured and adoptable dogs.

Public and private agencies spend $2.5 billion each year caring for and /or killing homeless dogs and cats. Pit bulls represent one in four of all animals taken into shelters. More than 80 percent of pit bulls in shelters will die before their second birthday.

Some guidelines in adopting a pit bull…

1. Adopt a shelter or rescue org dog due to the above. Also, irresponsible breeders are only interested in your money, not dogs. (this goes for all breeds but especially pit bull type dogs).

2. The dog should be spayed/neutered and given obedience training (basic commands).

3. Are you equipped to give your dog an hour of exercise a day?

4. Do you have a home of your own? If not, make sure that your landlord is ok with your adopting a pit bull.

5. If you are going to keep your dog chained up as a lawn ornament, used as a guard dog, or to show off how macho you are, please do NOT adopt a pit bull. Bullies make terrible guard dogs, they love people too much. And w do not need any more irresponsible owners.

6. Do you have small children? NEVER leave your dog (of any breed) alone and unsupervised with a child.

7. Are you lifetime committed to give the dog a forever home?

8. Volunteer at a local shelter and get to know the dogs there before you adopt. Do some research and then decide what is right for you.

9. Consider fostering a pit bull before you adopt.

10. Do you have the time, energy and patience for a dog who wants to be with you and cuddle all the time?

Ending BSL 4 Lennox

Last week, I had an idea to create a replica stuffed animal dog that looked like Lennox  for Brooke after receiving a press release about a contest from a stuffed toy company who are having a contest. After dealing with their inept PR / Marketing firm who did not understand what I was asking, I officially gave up on them and looked around for another company.

I found one and I also found the Ride for Lennox below. It would be great to also do a ride or event on the west coast, what do you think ???  The cost of creating a replica stuffed dog to send to Brooke is approximately $850 for the cost and shipping. Let me know if you would be interested in participating in creating an event on the west coast similar to the drive on the east coast.

The replica of Lennox would be sent to Brooke as a keepsake along with other mementoes, letters and cards. And the ride would do fundraising for several pit bull rescues (perhaps Bad Rap, Our Pack, and Villalobos or smaller ones?) and raise awareness about BSL. Thanks for your input.

Victoria Stilwell assessment of Lennox court case…the judge had a choice, how the legal system failed Lennox

her Op-Ed piece in the Belfast Telegraph, the morning of Lennox untimely demise

Her Update on Lennox:  The family have told me that Belfast City Council will still not answer the family’s calls and have consistently ignored their request to have Lennox’s collar returned to them, nor have they returned ‘Lennox’s ashes.’ There are many rumors circulating that Lennox died in a certain kennel location months before the BCC announced that he was euthanised and that the kennel panicked and were told by the BCC to get rid of everything Lennox related. These are still just rumors and should not be taken for hard fact until the truth is revealed. The family are ‘heartbroken’. The media hype around this case might have died down but I can assure you everything will be done to ensure that one day the truth is known. Please share this with everyone you know to keep Lennox’s name alive and to ensure that future dogs and their people do not have to suffer because of ignorance.

“As is always the case with a huge news story, people from around the globe seeking to cash in on the media frenzy about Lennox have come out of the woodwork. Individuals seeking their “15 minutes of fame” are constantly coming forward, claiming to have “inside information”, or just wanting to associate their own name with Lennox, in order to gain more celebrity status for themselves. It is a heartbreaking fact that major media outlets waited until the 11th hour before finally deciding to cover Lennox’s story. Where were they over the past 26 months, when they truly could have made a difference?

“Rumors are running rampant throughout social media about Lennox. There are claims from alleged kennel workers who have reported that Lennox had suffered a broken leg, broken teeth, was sick and malnourished. Pictures had already surfaced of him with massive hair loss, which could have been caused by the stress of being torn from the only home he had ever known, and forced to live in isolation and away from his family. Another report came out that Lennox had been found dead in his kennel months ago, and a coverup took place by the BCC, since they did not want to admit their neglect had led to his death. Three separate kennels have been named as being the “secret kennels” where Lennox had been housed, and they have claimed to have received alleged threats of violence because of it.

“None of these allegations about Lennox’s condition on the day he was murdered or the about his death months ago have been confirmed or substantiated. No actual verifiable kennel worker has had the courage to come forward, say who they are and what connection they had with Lennox, and given provable testimony about what happened to him or when/how he actually died. Until someone finally does that, the truth about the last days of Lennox’s life may never be known.

“It has been reported that information has been requested under the United Kingdom’s Freedom of Information Act, seeking to get to the real truth about this entire nightmare.”

Lame reply to one of many emails I sent

Thank you for your recent email regarding Lennox.  I appreciate your sense of loss and understand your desire to contact us and a range of other agencies here in Northern Ireland to reverse the decision to destroy Lennox.

However, the NI Courts and Tribunals Service had no role in the decision and has no authority to intervene in such cases.

The NI Courts and Tribunals Service, as a Government department, is only responsible for providing administrative support to the courts in Northern Ireland.  The judiciary and the prosecuting authorities operate entirely independently from all Government departments and as a consequence we cannot consider complaints in respect of judicial decisions or the reasons underpinning them.   Similarly we have no authority to investigate complaints regarding prosecutorial decisions or evidence, including allegations such as perjury.

I am sorry that I am unable to personally address your correspondence but I am sure you will appreciate that we have been inundated with queries and emails regarding this case. The ride is being dedicated to Lennox and the Barnes family, the people who loved and fought to save his life. After a two year battle, Lennox was killed last week by the Belfast, Ireland council simply because he looked like a “pit bull.” We are having a stuffed Lennox made, and along each stop on the route, he will be handed off to the next group of riders, along with any notes of condolence and support to the Barnes family. After the ride, both the stuffed Lennox and all the cards and letters will be sent to the Barnes family to show that although we are separated by thousands of miles, we stand united with them in their fight, and we all mourn.

You don’t need to be part of an animal welfare organization to take part in the ride…you only need to have a desire to see BSL come to an end so that no dog and no family ever face the heartbreak and anguish of breed specific legislation again.
SOAR is organizing the troops for a vote on the Ontario pit bull ban in September, and using the bike rally as a fundraiser for their efforts to end BSL there. However, those taking parts in the states can simply use the ride to bring awareness to the fight against BSL, and to promote rescue and responsible dog ownership.

The ride is taking place from August 29 to September 2, 2012. It starts in Miami, FL and goes up the east coast finishing in Toronto, Canada.

Happy Vicktory dog day

On April 25th, 2007, police served a warrant in Surry, Va. The day before, Michael Vick’s cousin, Davon Boddie, was arrested on drug charges and listed the house as his address. The police and animal-control officers found 66 dogs and what appeared to be a dog-training complex of dark-painted buildings in the woods just behind the house owned by M. Vick. Police obtained another warrant and seized the dogs.

This photo is of the dogs rescue from the property. Thankfully, there were people who began the fight for the V Dogs lives. And thus began the journey for a collective group of dogs who would change the perception people had of pit bulls and fighting dogs and the laws that would one day open doors for countless dogs worldwide.

It all started on this day in 2007.

Happy 5th year anniversary to all of the Vicktory dogs, their pet guardians, foster parents and trainers, all of the folks who have loved them and been with them every step of their amazing journeys… BadRap, Best Friends, Our Pack, Monterey SPCA and others, the dogs could not have made it without ALL OF YOU.

http://vdoglittleengineblog.blogspot.ca/2012/04/fifth-anniversary-week.html

If you have not read the book about these dogs, it is time to honor the dogs by getting a copy of The Lost Dogs by Jim Gorant and reading it or giving it as a gift to your local shelter, a friend or loved one. This book will warm your heart and uplift your spirit. Yes, there are a few rough paragraphs to get through. But in the end, the story is one of tremendous courage, triumph and spirit. Against all odds, despite PETA and the Humane Society and others insistence that the dogs be euthanized, most of the dogs have not only survived but are thriving in homes with other dogs, cats, children and continue to inspire others. Eight of the dogs have become therapy dogs, visiting sick people and reading with children, have won awards and given the key to the city. A few of the dogs have passed onto the Rainbow Bridge. Some of the pet guardians do speaking engagements and events. And a few have rescued other pit bulls who needed love and homes, too.

For Audie, Cherry, Danimal, Ernie, Frodo, Georgia, Ginger, Grace, Halle, Hector, Iggy, Jasmine, Jhumpa, Jonny J, Leo, Little Red, Mel, Oscar, Red, Squeaker, Stella, Teddles, Uba, Ziggy  and all of the other brave dogs…

Oscar just passed his CGC. He is an official Canine Good Citizen and is now eligible for adoption (has a pending home).

RIP Leo

R.I .P. Leo… one of the Vicktory dogs, a precious therapy dog… how sad and sudden…  Cici and I drove to and from Sacramento this weekend whew… got home Sunday to this news about Leo…

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25214356/ns/health-pet_health/t/beaten-down-dog-vick-case-has-his-day/

“Leo passed away this week from a seizure, but his story lives on. Once a fighting dog for Michael Vick, Leo was rescued and got a NEW OWNER. Under the guidance of his NEW owner, Leo became a “therapy dog” for cancer patients. Thanks Leo for the example you are for your breed. We will remember you with great fondness.”

Hector the Pit Bull
Rest in peace, my cool cousin Leo. The world is a better place because you were in it.
He passed away this week from a seizure disorder. Here is a video from 2008 highlighting his therapy work. Big Hector smooches to Marthina from Our Pack, Inc..

Such very sad news, today, as we all say goodbye to precious Leo. Our hearts should not be so heavy, because Marthina did show him a world filled with love, friendship and a firm place in life. Still so very hard to say goodbye to someone who has touched your life. RIP little man and thank you. ♥
Please, V Dog friends, take a small moment and share some love with Our Pack, Inc. and Marthina.

https://www.facebook.com/ourpack

It is with great sadness I must announce the loss of a wonderful soul. This week Leo passed away from a severe seizure disorder. Leo was my working partner, friend and family loved one and I will never forget how wonderful he was. He was so many things to many people and to many dogs. Leo came to Our Pack from the Vick case and I was lucky enough to later adopt him. Even though he didn’t have a good start in life he made life for others around him better. Just after arriving to us, Leo quickly turned inhumanity into humanity. He gave love that wasn’t even given to him. He worked with cancer patients as a therapy dog. He showed kids that no matter what you can still show love and compassion toward others regardless of how life has treated you. He showed the world that one should not be judged based on what property he lives on but on who you are and what you do as an individual. Many dogs are alive today and many people have smiled because of Leo and his work. He gave a second chance to other dogs that may never have gotten one because of who he was and what he did. Please join me in remembering the good that Leo has done and pass it on. We’ve suffered a great loss but we’ve also received a wonderful gift in the time we were lucky enough to share with him. Leo accomplished so much in so little time. Thank you Leo, I love you so much and you will never be forgotten….Ever. For Leo, 2005 – 2011
If you are able to spare 5$ to donate to one of the V-dogs in Best Friends Animal Society‘s care, you can become a Guardian Angel, would you mind doing it in one of the names of the V Dogs who has passed? Those who are gone, and will never be forgotten are: Sussex 2621, Sweet Jasmine, 7, Bonita, Rose, Red and Leo. Doing little things like this is how we keep their memory alive. Especially if we share them. ♥

one big happy dog and phoney show

THE BIG PROBLEM is THE BIG LIES…
You know I’d be tickled pink, thrilled and jumping for JOY happy if it were actually true, that Vick had changed, learned the errors of his ways and was truly remorseful and wanted to help kids and dogs, no one would be happier than me. Do you honestly think I enjoy droning on and on and on going on ad nauseum about his crimes until I am SICK to my stomach?  NO, I do not !

We certainly would have a great proponent IF the whole story were true. No one can speak better than someone who has been there and done that. But the problem is that I’ve NOT seen one iota of authenticity, sincerity or truth come out of the mouth of the most notorious animal abuser of all time. The doggie serial killer has yet to CONFESS his sins before the world, most people do not know what he did, they think he “just” financed some dog fights and got caught and went to jail for dog fighting. These are BIG LIES. He did NOT ONLY finance dog fights but he killed dogs with his own hands and in horrific ways (read the court documents and/or The Lost Dogs book by senior editor of Sports Illustrated Jim Gorant) and he ENJOYED IT.  Killing dogs in nauseating ways was FUN for him.

And he spent NOT one minute in jail for animal cruelty nor dog fighting but he got a plea deal and was charged with gambling. Similar to Casey Anthony being in jail for lying when most people believe she killed her daughter.   So for him to run around publicly proclaiming that he’s changed and reformed while continuing these LIES of omission is symptomatic of his sociocpathy. He confesses to lying in the past while continuing to lie in the present.

He has no remorse, seemingly no conscience, and the only thing he would change in his past is he wishes that he did not get caught and/or that his sentence had been shorter. He has said this publicly. So the crux of the problem for humane people with hearts, eyes, brains and ears who love animals is he has NOT stopped lying and through his actions (which speak louder than words) we do NOT see him doing anything but pretending to be good not actually DOING GOOD.

Ok, it is nice for him to be on board this bill to penalize spectators  at animal fights but it’s a whole lotta too little too late. How about outting the real criminals, the dog fighters he knows. I recommended a five step plan (below) for him to follow that would convince even the most skeptical among us that he truly had changed. C’est la vie.

Note: With all of the polls and articles to comment on about Vick yesterday, and we DID turn the polls around, thankfully, I started feeling sick. Having to write sickening details about what Vick did to people who do not want to know gets to me, especially when it’s an onslaught as it has been. Please know your limits. And I also have a suggestion. Besides taking frequent time outs, get away from the computer, walk your dog, hug your fur kids, etc. there is a technique to release your anger/outrage that who knows can even have beneficial results on the person targeted… I’ve used this with my ex-hubby and it works beautifully.

In your prayer/meditation place, bring in your guides, ask your God/Higher Power /Angels/Higher Self, whatever/whoever you believe in to be there and help you. When you are surrounded by love, white light, good vibes, whatever, imagine/picture/visualize the person you are angry at… And then imagine yelling at the person, hitting them, beating them up however you wish to do so, this is your fantasy. You can pretend to wipe that smirk off his face, kick him in the groin area, tear up his contracts, imagine sponsors fleeing and him being in jail, shunned from society, do whatever you want to do, say anything you want to say and imagine whatever you want, just keep on until you are done, complete, finished and your anger is released and they are who cares. You can do this with a group of people, and you can do this whenever you need/wish to do so. The point is that you release your rage in a nonviolent fashion. And get that energy OUT of YOU. You can also tear into magazines. Tear them up. Whatever works for you, but I enjoy beating the crap out of those who need getting the crap beat out of them, works for me. And that is all that matters. Better than taking out your rage on those you love.  Try it and see if it works for you.

Now with all of these goings on in the media and in Congress, there is a big dog and phoney show (an elaborately staged performance, presentation, or event designed to sway or convince people. It is often used in reference to a series of informational events put on by a company or group or a derisive term for a small circus) aka

Pretending to be something you’re not or doing something that you want people to think is important when it really isn’t.

A dog and pony show is meant not to actually DO anything meaningful but to pretend something is being done which is the whole point of Vick’s PR Image Rehab Express. Is it no wonder then that he and Pacelle spoke yesterday to Congress… people can pat themselves on the back and say good job… Vick’s image brigade can go on reforming his IMAGE while his person remains as tarnished as ever.  And Congress can pretend that they are doing something against dog-fighting.  And Pacelle can pretend he cares about animals…Win win win.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Doctor-J-and-Dangerous-Dave-Dog-and-Pony-Show/143248382359446?sk=photos

Here is my problem with the legislation and the antique Vick road show…

Did they have the RESCUERS, ADOPTERS and people who take care of hurt, maimed, abused dogs or animals speak to Congress??? NO… people on the ground, in the field, who give their lives every day taking care of the animals hurt by dog fighting are the ones who are the REAL spokespeople… People from BadRap, Best Friends, Our Pack, and others, Knock Out Dog Fighting, folks who are SINCERELY making a difference…

OF COURSE NOT, duh, and children should NOT NOT NOT EVER be brought to barbaric animal fights. People that bring their children to dog fights should definitely be penalized and in my humble opinion sterilized. Have their kids taken away. But none of that is going to happen.

Kids learn by example. And if their parents engage in violence, then the kids learn by their parents actions not words. Even if their parents receive a fine, or go to jail, ok. But Vick’s words are still bogus. Dog fighting is on the rise because they think Vick is cool and want to be like him. Do they listen to his insincere words? NO !  they listen his actions… arrogance, hey, I got away with murder and am making millions and all I have to do is give a few lame speeches and pretend that I am sorry and you can, too… just don’t get caught…

this bill penalizes people who watch the fights instead of the top dogs, the dog fighters at the top, people like Vick with the real $$$ who put the dog fights on to begin with… it’s like putting addicts in jail instead of going after the drug cartel, the drug dealers, the real criminals. Or let’s penalize gamblers not casinos. What’s wrong with that picture?  Millionaires protect other millionaires. They think we’re suckers. Of course, Vick is on board with THAT… then the people that he associated with (who we all know were responsible for killing dogs not him, never him, although HE was the one who killed dogs with his bare hands and did horrific things to the dogs, it was his background, culture he grew up in and his friends who were really to blame for what HE HIMSELF did) so then his friends would have been fined and gone to jail not him… hey, that sounds pretty nifty, a good deal, a sweet deal for him, duh… plus he gets to look like he’s actually doing something for animals and those who want to believe this kool aid do and the PR folk are happy and the NFL is happy and the REAL moneymakers are happy…

and so what if a few parents, kids and dogs get hurt in the process…   Vick tried, hah. Vick likes the idea of a few spectators getting penalized so does Nike, the NFL, Subway and so on down the line…  hold the wrong people accountable and the real criminals get off scot free, hey, who cares about a few parents, kids and dogs when you can make boatloads of money pretending you care about something you don’t give a shit about???

Please vote on whether you think Vick is a good anti dog fighting spokesperson

http://www.care2.com/causes/michael-vick-asks-congress-to-crackdown-on-spectators-at-animal-fights.html

and someone start a petition going after the REAL dog fighters at the TOP and have Vick NAME NAMES… now THAT would be DOING SOMETHING TRULY BENEFICIAL… and have Vick and Pacelle bring that to law enforcement and Congress… HAH !!!

Now, we do have a real redemption plan for Vick to follow, check it out :

Warning: below interview is enough to make one barf,

Nathan Winograd

Ryan Clinton, No Kill Advocate sent me this link and it really is beyond the pale. He couldn’t get through it. I couldn’t get through it.While Wayne Pacelle, the CEO of HSUS, and his spokesman Michael Vick, the most notorious dog abuser of our generation, claim they are pushing a bill to crack down on those who finance dog fights, the statements each makes reveal who and what they really are:  Monster Vicks says his is “a different kind of loving dogs.”

(Note: if hate is love and love is sick twisted abuse)

And rather than condemn Vick for it, Pacelle says “obviously people who are involved in dog-fighting, cockfighting, they really do value the animals in certain ways.” And then he goes on to suggest that we are all “sinners.”

They are meant for each other: The two-faced charlatan who has enriched himself while he betrays the animals, time and time again, calling for their killing, fighting efforts to reform abusive pounds, defending the right of pounds to gas animals to death, and defending animal killers while turning his back on the animals those killers have abused; and the dog abuser who continues to avoid any responsibility by claiming shooting dogs, drowning dogs, hanging dogs alive, electrocuting dogs, beating dogs to death and watching them tear each other to shreds is his way of expressing a “different kind” of love.

Here’s the link if you can stomach it:

just dogs, hah…

One time I was in traffic court waiting for the Judge. There was an mean grumpy older black woman sitting on the bench waiting with me. She had a boy perhaps five years old with her. This boy had a light, a radiance, a glow about him and the sweetest smile and personality. I just wanted to hug and kiss him he was so adorable. He could not sit still as children of that age who are normal cannot do. He was full of energy and entertaining and no one minded as he made everyone smile. Everyone but the grumpy grandmother or mother. She said something to him like If you don’t sit down and be quiet, I am going to get the police to lock you up and put you away.  It was a horrible thing to tell a young child and especially a boy who clearly wanted attention and had a loving heart. I told her to knock it off that it was an awful thing to tell a child and I told the boy, she is lying to you. The biotch got mad and humppphhhhed away, tried to threaten me first with a Mind Your Own Business before I tell the police about you.  I was NOT afraid of her idle threats but what about the boy who did not know any better??? What would he believe???   Would he live a life of fear ??? I prayed for that boy for a long time, that he find a better home filled with loving people who would give him the love and attention he needed.

Another time I was in a supermarket going through the aisles when I heard a baby cry. It was not just crying, it was screaming loud and hysterical. Could not stop crying. The father did not know what to do and was trying to shut the baby up in a very crude manner.  I could not walk by like everyone else. I prayed first for healing and angels around the baby and me. I approached gently and asked if I could pray with them.  Miraculously, he said yes. As I prayed, I could feel that the father and baby were calming down and by the end, the crying baby subsided.  I softly suggested to the father that in my experience when babies are upset, it is usually because the people around them, their caretakers are upset. And that if he could just relax himself, that would be help the baby, too. He was very thankful, relieved and happy.

It is the same with dogs as it is with children, pretty much. How adults treat dogs and children has impact, negative or positive.  I don’t know how anyone could say just dogs . Have you ever met a dog, had a dog, or know someone who loved a dog? Do you have a heart?  Eyes to see?

Any two bit bully can scare those weaker than them in size and muscle. But it takes a TRUE HERO to overcome their fears.

That’s one reason it really irks/irritates me when people say they’re just dogs. Twice yesterday, I had to tell people this saying M. Vick killed a few dogs is like saying Hitler killed a few Jews (actually besides the 8 million Jews he killed, there were 6 million Gypsies, disabled, Socialists and others Hitler had killed)… Most people do not know that.

Here are some of the Vicktory dogs. They are not “just dogs” …  They are HEROES in the truest meaning of the words. So when people say they are just dogs, show them these just dogs, proudly, seven of them are now therapy dogs… Pay tribute to these dogs.

Now look at these dogs and I double dog dare you to tell me these sweet innocent loving beings are just dogs. Anyone who says that is just plain ignorant … NO dog is just a dog. And these dogs are the BEST dogs on the planet.  Super dogs who have not only survived horrific abuse of the worst kind but most are thriving thanks to the loving care, patience, and TLC they received from loving people at Badrap, Best Friends, Monterey SPCA, Our Pack, and others and their adopters, foster parents, and other volunteers). These are heroes.

Most of these dogs did not know how to be dogs. They were not socialized, had never been on a leash, never had toys to play with, did not sleep on a bed, were chained up 24/7, they never experienced any affection from humans or been in a car or groomed. They were often terrified of humans and pancaked (lay flat on the ground unmoving) a form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, exhibited a freeze response to life-threatening situations. In the wild, animals can make the choice of flight (flee) or fright but their body can make a third choice in extremely dangerous situations, and that is to freeze. Being immobile, they become almost invisible to predators. Not human predators, but other animals. Given that many of these dogs froze at the sight of the dangerous predator humans they knew, anyone with a heart cannot bear the idea of what they went through. The terror that they experienced. Makes me cry and sick to my stomach every time I think about it and I try not to think about it.

So for the record, these are NOT his dogs, he proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he did not deserve them. They are MUCH TOO GOOD. And if anyone deserves AWARDS, it is the heroic Vicktory dogs. For their bravery, for overcoming all of the odds, for letting go of their fear/terrors, for learning how to be dogs, for leaping over their obstacles, and learning to love and forgive human beings. For their service to humanity. For all of the good that they’ve done and for all of the hope they bring to the world.

This book is their story… it is inspiring, hopeful and an amazing read… written like a mystery, I read it in two days, could not put it down.

pit bulls rule the Internet

The good folks over at Mashable did a great blog post about 10 Animals With More Social Media Fans Than Major Media Outlets pages, http://mashable.com/2011/07/12/animals-social-media/

All is good.

However, they left out all of the good pit bull pages with all of the many thousands if not millions of pit bull fans…

Today is one of four annual Blog the Change Days, where pet bloggers promote their favorite people, organizations, and events that improve the lives of animals in communities and all of the pit bull rescues and pages listed play their part… Send them some love, likes and licks !!! BOL…

This is a good subject for BLOG THE CHANGE… because pit bulls are too often Hairy Puppers who because of dog fighters and a bad reputation given to them by the lame stream media go through Deathly Harrowing experiences.

Of course, the cute and cuddly and funny animals were what they were talking about. And Patrick’s story started off kind of grim, being a Hairy Pupper. Although he is doing great now, about 48 pounds and a happy dog, he had been starved near death and thrown in the trash. Perhaps people who are fans of cute, cuddly and funny pets probably do not want to know about dogs like Patrick nor about pit bulls.

Still, Patrick has the MOST fans of all around the world, around the Internet. He has more Facebook pages and fans than many celebrities, not only more fans than the media pages. Patrick has 60-100 Fb pages … The Patrick Miracle page alone has about 110,000 fans.  How many celebrities have 60-100 facebook pages? And Patrick’s pages are all over the world from Canada, England, France, Germany, to Finland, Sweden, USA, many of the 50 states, and some of those have north and south or specific cities such as North and South Florida, North and South California, Philadelphia, and others.

The Vicktory dogs, former v-dogs, each have their own fb pages, Hector, Handsome Dan, Jhumpa, Cherry Garcia, Audie, and Vicktory 4 Cherry, and others with a few hundred to a few thousand fans each. And of course, we know the Bad Newz that they went through, and survived and are doing great. Seven are now therapy dogs. And many have earned their Canine Good Citizen certificates. They are adopted into loving homes, with kids, other dogs and cats and living a good news life now.

There are also many individual pit bull pages including Tuna the Pit Bull and others.

there are the stop and end bsl and bdl sites as well as other groups, adoption sites and shelters that do not have pit bull in their name…

There are many books about pit bulls on the Internet including The Lost Dogs book by Jim Gorant, The Pit Bull Placebo, and others.

there may be some overlap of fans on various pages… but I bet you cannot look through these pages and find stereotypical pit bulls and owners, can you?
