Irish spirits—of the beverage variety— are plentiful in North America, and several dogs and cats in the Trupanion database are named after Irish drinks. This long list includes 283 pets named Guinness, and a handful of pets named Jameson, Smithwicks and even “Bailey’s Irish Cream.”

Irish music also plays a part in pet names. From instruments—including a dog named Bagpipe—to bands—including U2 and Van Morrison—pets are frequently named after Irish music influences. The band, U2, has an especially strong influence, with dozens of pets named Bono.

Irish cities have made their way into pet names as well, including Dublin, Cashel, Cork, Bandon and Limerick. Dublin is by far the most popular Irish city pet name.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Happy Patrick day

Happy 2nd Re-Birthday, Patrick! We will NEVER forget nor ever stop hurting from what you endured at the hands of a monster, but we will not let evil win. Your suffering started a world-wide, anti-cruelty campaign and helped millions of animals. We LOVE you and are grateful for your NEW LIFE!

Imagine there’s no cruelty

It’s easy if you try
No abuse, starvation or neglect
Above us only sky
Imagine all the pit bulls
Living in loving homes…

Imagine there’s no BSL
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or fight for
And no dog fighters too
Imagine all the pit bulls
Living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no kill lists
I wonder if you can
No need for chains, puppy mills, or shelters
A brotherhood of canine and human
Imagine all the pit bulls
Sharing all the world…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

Pet friendly animal shelters

There is more than enough Love, Compassion, Kindness, and Generosity to Change the status quo…

“Animal abuse at local shelters is not an isolated anomaly caused by “a few bad apples.” The stunning number and severity of these cases nationwide lead to one disturbing and inescapable conclusion: our shelters are in crisis.”

For the past couple of years, ever since I got involved with the Patrick movement, I have also participated in a few other high profile cases of animal abuse. In those other cases, Lennox, Wicca, for example, the problem became clear. It was a stubborn, bureaucratic system of people who REFUSED to send those dogs to sanctuaries, that were willing with open arms to even PAY for the dog’s rescue and rehab. All pleas fell on deaf ears and the innocent pups were killed. It was heartbreaking, to say the least.

It is easy to turn away, shut down, and refuse to read or look at ugly photos of animal abuse, in order to stop the pain you feel at the horrors inflicted upon innocent animals. Just leave it to someone else to care. It can be hard to face the truth of what is going on. But the brave and courageous are willing to learn and educate themselves and do the work that needs to be done, for the rewards… the love of animals.  It is time to take off the rose colored glasses. To save even one life is worthwhile.

Those cases took place in other countries, northern Ireland and Montreal, Canada. We here in the USA have similar problems. And thankfully, people who love pit bulls and are true animal lovers, have begun to see the light and identified the true culprits of a shelter system that is broken and kills healthy, treatable animals every day in our local neighborhoods…

Nathan Winograd spells it all out in no uncertain terms in his latest book Friendly Fire, which was available for FREE this weekend on Amazon as an e-book… This is a book that many animal advocates have been waiting for. Winograd and his wife wrote the book not only to expose the cruel system of abuse and death but also to give animal advocates, the media, legislators and others the tools to make necessary shelter reform a reality.

http://www.nathanwinograd.com/?p=10949

Winograd says that either a shelter is No Kill or it is a slaughterhouse. And the public is not at fault but we are too often blamed by the very organizations that are refusing to change. They spend our money not on saving animal lives but on their own salaries and false marketing schemes.  He gives numerous examples and scenarios. He names names and answers excuses. And shows us there are creative PROVEN ways to save lives.

checklist

Try to ladle a bowl of soup out of a pot into a bowl. Go ahead. Notice that either you DO IT or you don’t. Or let me put it another way, either you are pregnant or you are not pregnant. Either a shelter is No Kill or it is not. This is important because some shelters and organizations are trying to fake it by using the words No Kill. Just like some companies whitewash or greenwash, pretend to offer products they say are healthy and natural, eco friendly and/or organic in order to compete in the market place. Just calling yourself No Kill is not a matter of semantics. True No Kill shelters DO NOT KILL healthy and treatable animals.

Winograd has been in the trenches, head of shelters, and has DONE IT himself firsthand. He has created the No Kill Equation and No Kill Advocacy Center. Fundamentally becoming a No Kill shelter requires bottom line, the CHOICE to become No Kill, with no ifs ands nor buts (no excuses), a commitment to becoming No Kill and actionable steps to take. It does not take research, five years or ten years or twenty years. A shelter can become No Kill virtually OVERNIGHT.

Americans are generous, good hearted and too often naive and gullible people, who give millions, if not billions of dollars, to causes in hopes of a cure for diseases (that there are already cures for, most diseases), to end drug addiction, homelessness and other society ills. And the most popular charity is animals. We LOVE our pets and we give money every day because we have been duped into thinking that our money is going to make a difference in the lives of animals. But Winograd points out that the big national organizations such as the ASPCA, Humane Society of the USA, PETA and American Humane Association, the ones with the MOST power and money and credibility, have betrayed our trust and too often collude with and enable the old shelter killing system to continue.

In the arms of the angels of death… the story of a three week old kitten…

http://www.nathanwinograd.com/?p=9285

We must demand accountability and donate to people and organizations that truly are saving lives not just having pretty photo ops. We must be discerning and learn the difference between those who are all talk and no action and those who truly DO THE WORK.   First, we CHANGE and then others follow.

There were a few gripping paragraphs in the book (like the above about the three week old kitten) that were hard to read. Some shocking, to me, info that I did not know. And yet, ultimately, I am glad that I am better informed. With knowledge, comes power. And this book can empower regular every day people like you and me to stand up for the animals in ways we have not done because it gives us the ways and means, a road map of how it is and has been and is being done. And the way the book is written, with graphics and sections, you can read a little or the whole book and gain important information.  Below is some of the info that grabbed me.

Did you know…

“Whether by coming to the defense of regressive shelter directors, working to defeat progressive shelter reform legislation, fighting new and innovative programs to save lives, or calling for the wholesale slaughter of entire groups of animals in shelters, HSUS, the ASPCA, PETA and other animal protection groups are the biggest barrier to ensuring the survival of animals in shelters today.”

“The ASPCA and HSUS are not only the richest animal protection charities in the U.S., they are among the overall richest charities in the nation.”

“shelter killing is the leading cause of death for healthy dogs and cats in the United States. Today, an animal entering a shelter has only one chance in two of making it out alive, and in some places it is as low as one in ten, with shelters blaming a lack of available homes as the cause of death. And yet, there are over seven times as many people looking to bring an animal into their home every year as there are animals being killed in shelters because they lack one. Half of all animals who enter our nation’s shelters go out the back door in body bags rather than out the front door in the loving arms of adopters despite the fact that there are plenty of homes available.

.

Screen shot 2013-01-18 at 1.16.25 PM
“A CRISIS OF UNCARING Not only are millions of animals needlessly killed in our nation’s shelters every year, but they are neglected and abused in the process.”

“ASK PEOPLE WHAT it means to “rescue” an animal and every single one of them will tell you it means to deliver an animal from harm’s way and into safety. That, after all, is the common sense definition of the word. It’s also the dictionary definition. And it’s the one that HSUS and the ASPCA hope you think of when they put out fundraising appeals for the animals they claim to “rescue.” In their television commercials, in their publications, on their Facebook page and whenever they reach out to the media to announce their latest campaign—all of which are designed to tug on the heartstrings of Americans—they use the word “rescue” to define their involvement in cases involving animal neglect, abuse, hoarding or exploitation. Yet for many of these animals, a “rescue” ASPCA-style or HSUS-style isn’t a rescue at all, but a classic case of out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Screen shot 2013-01-19 at 10.21.18 AM
“quite often the shelters to which the ASPCA and HSUS send animals are kill shelters that are as heartless as the circumstances from which many of the animals have been “rescued.”

“With their combined 300 million dollars in annual revenues and the support of millions of people who love animals, the ASPCA and HSUS have not only the means to provide their own housing and care for animals but also the ability to find them homes. Yet when they assist in a large-scale “rescue,” they often dump the animals at local shelters, pocket the donations meant for their care and then walk away. After the photo ops and the fundraising solicitations have been sent out, the animals get shipped off to shelters across the country, where they are either put to death or local animals are put to death so the ASPCA or HSUS animals can be taken in.

“Why doesn’t HSUS or the ASPCA find the animals homes themselves among their millions of animal-loving members and what amounts to endless resources? Indeed, not only does HSUS boast over 12 million supporters, but the ASPCA, located in New York City, has immediate access to the single largest adoption market in the country. But HSUS will not place the animals in homes themselves. And despite the millions hoarded in their bank accounts, the ASPCA has a long, sordid history of a paltry level of adoptions in its own shelter and, worse, of neglecting the needs of the animals suffering in the city pound down the street, even sending animals to be killed there. Kittens and puppies have gone from the ASPCA to one of the most abusive pounds in the nation, only to end up on its nightly “kill list” (see pages 85-88).

“in spite of the feel-good headlines, many of the so-called “rescued” animals actually end up dead or displace others who are then killed—we are left to ask one, inescapable and obvious question: What the hell kind of rescue is that?”

Screen shot 2013-01-20 at 9.24.56 PM

“Many Americans believe that HSUS and the ASPCA own and operate shelters across the country. In reality, HSUS does not operate a single shelter, nor is it officially affiliated with any of them. The ASPCA runs one shelter in New York City which saves fewer animals a year than many rescue groups operating on a fraction of the ASPCA’s budget.

“Local and state organizations have complained about such misleading fundraising tactics, even asking the Attorneys General of their states to open an investigation, as was done in Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Then, it was HSUS that was the worst offender, raising over 30 million dollars but spending only seven million before their President Wayne Pacelle announced “Mission: Accomplished” and headed out of town, leaving behind thousands of animals in need who were then shipped off to kill shelters nationwide (they had a policy of not working with No Kill shelters), sticking the money Americans donated specifically for Hurricane Katrina animals into HSUS bank accounts.*

“In 2010, ASPCA revenues exceeded 140 million dollars. They only adopted out 3,389 animals. That is roughly $41,000 per animal. By contrast, during the same time frame, a New York No Kill shelter and sanctuary took in $635,000 and saved 2,932 animals. That is $216 per animal—or the equivalent of the ASPCA saving 645,040 animals. A No Kill animal control shelter in New York took in $439,000 and saved 2,315 animals. That is $190 per animal—or the equivalent of the ASPCA saving 736,842 animals. This amounts to one-fourth of all animals being killed in shelters nationwide, but for a home.”

Winograd outlines specific cases of dogs like Oreo, Fay, Zephyr, Scruffy, Ace and others mistreated or killed or who died at a shelter because of the shelter staff.

If you bring an animal to the local shelter, within minutes, that animal may be put to death.

“No chance at adoption. No food, water or shelter, just a trip from the front counter to the gas chamber or to be poisoned with an overdose of barbiturates.”
“Scruffy was an orphaned kitten rescued by a man named Daniel in Phoenix, Arizona. Daniel bottle-fed Scruffy several times a day, every day, until she was old enough to eat on her own. Every night, Scruffy slept on Daniel’s pillow. Daniel credited Scruffy with helping him overcome a long-term addiction to drugs. After all, Scruffy needed him. And he needed Scruffy.

“In 2011, the nine-month-old Scruffy cut herself on fencing and Daniel took her to the Arizona Humane Society veterinary clinic for treatment. Unable to immediately come up with four hundred dollars to pay for it, Daniel asked if they would accept his mother’s credit card by telephone (she lived in a different state) or accept cash the following day when she was able to wire it to him. The Arizona Humane Society refused to do either. They told him that the only way they would treat Scruffy was if he signed over “ownership” to them. With a heavy heart but desperate for Scruffy to get the care she needed, Daniel agreed. But instead of treating Scruffy as promised, the Arizona Humane Society put her to death.

HSUS and our beloved Vicktory dogs

Screen shot 2013-01-19 at 7.14.16 AM

“HSUS also fraudulently fundraised off of the Vick dogs, telling people that the dogs were in HSUS custody, when they were not. Shortly after the case broke, HSUS contacted the U.S. Attorney prosecuting Vick and asked if they could see the dogs, then being held at six animal control shelters in Virginia. The U.S. Attorney agreed but only on condition that they take no photographs and not publicly talk about the dogs, citing fears of compromising the case, sensitivities involved in the prosecution and issues surrounding rules of evidence. HSUS agreed and then promptly violated that agreement. HSUS staffers took photographs of the dogs with people wearing HSUS shirts to make it appear that HSUS was directly involved in their care and then used these photographs to fundraise. Not only was that a lie, not only did they want the dogs dead, not only were they not going to use the money for the Vick dogs, but the U.S. Attorney’s Office felt so betrayed that they did not want to work with any animal groups.”

Why do HSUS and PETA hate pit bulls?

“While PETA was busy killing over 95 percent of the animals they took in, Wayne Pacelle defended them in Newsweek magazine by arguing that while No Kill might be noble, it was essentially impossible. But with cities and towns across the country having already achieved it, how could No Kill be “unachievable”? In fact, an HSUS-financed study proved that despite four million animals killed every year, the number of Americans looking to bring a new dog or cat into their homes topped 23 million. If there was an imbalance between supply and demand, Pacelle’s own study showed it went in the other direction.”

“Most people have no idea that at many animal shelters across the country, any pit bull that comes through the front door doesn’t go out the back door alive. From San Jose to Schenectady, many shelters have enacted policies requiring the automatic destruction of the huge and ever-growing number of ‘pits’ they encounter. This news shocks and outrages the compassionate dog-lover… Here’s another shocker: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the very organization that is trying to get you to denounce the killing of chickens for the table, foxes for fur or frogs for dissection, supports the shelters’ pit-bull policy…”

Is PETA a cult?
“PETA systematically seeks out, then kills, roughly 2,000 animals every year. Over 27,000 animals have died at the hands of PETA employees over the last decade alone. While communities across the country are ending the killing of healthy and treatable animals, with save rates as high as 98 percent, in 2011, PETA killed 96 percent of all dogs and cats and 93 percent of other companion animals such as rabbits that it took in, despite revenues of over 30 million dollars a year and millions of animal-loving members.

PETA seeks out and takes in animals for primarily one purpose: to kill them.
“Ingrid Newkirk founded PETA after a job working at the Washington Humane Society where she killed animals. It was a job she has admitted to doing with relish, explaining how she often came into work early to do it (see pages 178-179). She has stated that she does not believe that animals have a right to live, and that, in fact, animals want to die, calling killing “a gift” (see pages 179-180). Perhaps most disturbing of all, she has recruited a legion of cult-like devotees who actively seek out then kill thousands of animals every year at her behest.”

“In a cult, any information from outside the cult is considered evil, especially if it is opposing the cult. Cults train their members to reject any critical information given to them, and to not even entertain the thought that the information might be true.

“PETA is letting loose upon the world individuals who not only maniacally believe that killing is a good thing and that the living want to die, but who are legally armed with lethal drugs which they have already proven—27,751 times in the last ten years—that they are not adverse to using.

“Newkirk wrote that PETA is not an animal rights organization, stating in no uncertain terms: “We do not advocate ‘right to life’ for animals.”

“PETA is an organization that publicly claims to represent the best interest of animals—indeed their “ethical treatment”—while at the same time engages in a campaign to exterminate them.”

CHANGE IS A GOOD THING

“it is the public’s love and compassion for companion animals that could create profound social and legal precedents that would benefit all animals, such as laws making it illegal to kill them. A recent survey revealed that three out of four Americans already believe that shelters should not be allowed to kill healthy animals.”

“A great thing happens when you remove a regressive director and appoint new leadership that immediately and comprehensively implements alternatives to killing: the killing stops.

“The truth is it doesn’t take five years to implement alternatives to killing. It doesn’t take five years to set up a foster program, to recruit volunteers or to set up offsite adoption venues. All of these things can be done in a matter of weeks, or even days; whatever need dictates to prevent killing. No Kill requires action, not endless planning and five years of fundraising.”

“In 2010, the Governor of Delaware introduced a bill called the Delaware Companion Animal Protection Act. The proposed law included a rescue rights provision. It made foster care official state policy, required posting “all stray animals on the Internet with sufficient detail to allow them to be recognized and claimed by their owners” and more. Like all legislation, it involved compromise. But it was a fairly strong, comprehensive bill mandating progressive protocols statewide.

“The bill outlawed some of the most egregious sheltering practices that cause animals to be killed and it mandated common sense procedures that gave them every opportunity for life. And no one thought doing either of those things would be a bad or controversial idea. Why? Because there was no one to confuse them into thinking it was. The large national animal protection groups had no idea this legislation had been introduced. Wisely, activists who worked with the legislators to draft the language did not publicize their efforts, knowing that to do so would be to invite opposition. And not being informed, the opposition never materialized and the bill sailed through the Delaware legislature effortlessly.”

“it is a generous and animal-loving American public that pays their salaries. And the more Americans hinge their donations on an organization’s sincerity, integrity and performance rather than its superficial label, the sooner our nation’s large animal protection groups will be forced—by sheer necessity—to start building, rather than blocking, the road to a brighter future for America’s animals.

what can U do?

“THE LARGE ANIMAL protection groups have never created a single No Kill community in the U.S. because that has never been their goal. But smaller organizations have. Individuals have. If you want to help animals, do it yourself: like the activist who started a No Kill movement in his community where he took on not only an entrenched shelter director, but also the mighty ASPCA—and won.

“Or the animal rescuer who singlehandedly created the infrastructure necessary for her local shelter to go No Kill. Or the husband-and-wife team that began marketing shelter animals, resulting in adoption rates of over 95 percent. Or the long-time animal welfare professional who took over a shelter known for cruel treatment of animals and high rates of killing and overnight turned it one of the safest communities for homeless animals in America.

Their story can be your story. You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish if you grant yourself the authority.

Patrick on Pet Stop

On March 17th 2011, a desperately neglected dog miraculously made it through the night; in the morning, “Rocky” became “Patrick” & Patrick’s Movement, the brain-child of one Karen Powell (Patrick’s Movement NJ’s esteemed Admin.) was born. “Thank you” to all around the globe who created Patrick’s Movement FB pages in a show of solidarity to join forces in the trenches; individuals & rescues & shelters that do whatever it takes to save lives every day.

Kisha Curtis new trial date?  Thought it was some time this month but am not finding the info. I called the NJ SPCA and GSVS Hospital and finally got a call back from Capt. Yocum from the NJSPCA.  He said that April 19, is the new date at the Essex county courthouse.

Seems like it is taking a very long time for Curtis to go to trial and be prosecuted. Just saying, Capt.

jail dogs rock

would have liked to have seen more about the move on Pit Bulls and Parolees but was very happy to learn about the jail dogs program in Georgia. Now why aren’t there more programs like this across the country, in all the jails????

With the support of Tia Torres, perhaps she will go national with this type of program that could save the lives of Pit Bulls, in particular, all across this country… Takes the whole idea of Pit Bulls and Parolees to a whole new level… Step it up !!!!

This program is designed to save the lives of dogs destined for death in our local shelter. Once here, the dogs reside with the inmates chosen to work with them and those inmates will train them in basic obedience. The inmates will also learn to groom and care for the animals. Not only is the dog getting a second chance, but the inmates are learning valuable social and vocational skills that will help them become more productive citizens once they are released from jail. Hopefully, those inmates involved in the program will not return to jail again once they are released.

The program is at no cost to the taxpayers of Gwinnett County. The care, food, training and vet services for the dogs are all being provided through volunteers and the Society of Humane Friends.

It would seem to be a great place for the No Kill Coalition to save dogs lives, working with the jails… come on animal advocates, Patrick movement folks, how about instigating, activating programs like this across the country?

go like their Facebook page…

the emaciated dog, Brauny Brooks, that looked like Patrick did last year is now thriving…

Pet Blogger Challenge 2012

CHALLENGE QUESTIONS #2: FOR THOSE WHO PARTICIPATED LAST YEAR:

thanks to Edie Jarolim and Amy … for this opportunity…

1. Provide a link to your post from last year’s Pet Blogger Challenge so we can refresh our memories.

https://celiasue.wordpress.com/2011/01/10/pet-blogger-challenge/

2. What do you consider the most important goals you set out in last year’s post?

to write every day and have fun

3. Have you made progress toward those goals, or have your goals changed over the past year?

Definitely have gone beyond those goals… got more involved with pet blog hops, readership and subscription to my blog has increased, connected with other pet bloggers and the Patrick movement, No Kill community, and others… WOW…

Lots of Progress.

From 200+ a day to 300+ and in September more than 2,000 in one day… am approaching 300,000 views/visitors…

am thinking about various options… would like to do a magazine to be able to make an income from ads

am just in the process of writing for a huge network that I’ll be writing blog posts for, with 400,000+ fans… tons of opportunities opening up…

I learned how to do blog hops, videos, and all sorts of other cool things… yay…

and I even made progress on my writing blog and created another blog about spiritual growth… although I do not blog on those very frequently, I am pleased with what I have done… what do you think ?

http://celiasueink.wordpress.com/

4. Has your opinion of blogging on a schedule or as the spirit moves you changed? Which are you doing now? Do you still worry about lost traffic, momentum, etc?

I worry about my dog … I still write almost every day and sometimes more than once in a day depending on what is happening… at times, it is overwhelming the amount of news there is to write about … makes a HUGE difference being plugged into the various communities now

5. Are you generating income from your blog? Has this changed since last year?

not really… I do product reviews from time to time

If you are generating income, how (e.g. sponsor ads, affiliate relationships, spokesperson opportunities)?

If not currently, do you hope to in the future — and how?

if/when I move the blog to another platform (seems like a HUGE undertaking) then will be able to generate income and if/when I do a magazine… anyone else want to do?  takes a team, don’t want to do it on my own

6. Have your likes and dislikes about blogging changed since last year?

No one tells me what to write, how to write, when to write, etc. am my own boss… love that… and I just wrote for another network and had someone to answer to, and it made a difference in the writing, stepped it up a notch, so there is something to be said for that, working with a team, collaborating… they also made the blog post LOOK GOOD in ways that I did not envision, very very cool. (the blog post is not up yet, but I will let you know when it is)…

7. Overall, are you pleased with the progress you made in 2011?

delighted… much more than expected… but then I had low expectations to begin with…which I prefer… I find that when I don’t expect a lot, I get much more than when I expect a lot and get disappointed…

the cross country road trip did not happen and although I thought it was a good idea, realistically, don’t think I’m ready yet to do that…

8. How do you see your blog changing/growing in 2012?

with the huge influx of new visitors, readers and subscribers flowing over from the new network, the SKY is the limit… it shall truly be an amazing enchanted year of miracles.

My writing will be more succinct, funnier and on target and garner a book deal, a few book deals… ultimately, that is my goal, to write and publish books.

Someone on Facebook said I will be famous. I don’t really care about that… am more concerned about the prosperity and what I can do with my first million… get homes for lots of animals, change the doggie world, educate folks, all for the higher good… my bottomline is transforming this world into a better one… and one way to do that is to make folks laugh, lighten up, so watch out !!!!

Overcoming Facebook bans with Creative Solutions

Taking Matters into our Own Hands…

Since waiting around for Facebook to get with the program is frustrating at best, here is a possible CREATIVE SOLUTION for overcoming the Facebook ban/suspension: Attn: all Patrick movement admins and other animal advocacy rescue groups, Amelia Latham was just telling me that if you will create “group” pages, all these community pages should create them then we can post to group pages, it seems without restriction.

And if you are wondering how to do it as was I, I first went to the Animal Book facebook group page and saw on the left something that said Create Group. I clicked on that and voila. I was able to create a group page. Now I noticed that there it is on my page to be able to create a group.

How about it? and if you are a poster and are not banned, can u please let others know about this, pls share, thanks!

Facebook has received a lot of great publicity due to animal rescue efforts that have saved the lives of many animals

Patrick (featured prominently on News 12 in New Jersey facebook page)

The story of Patrick, the pit bull who was found abandoned and near death in a trash dumpster at a Newark apartment building, has garnered worldwide attention, and donations have been pouring in from those wanting to contribute to his care. Patrick visited the News 12 New Jersey Studio to be a guest on “The Pet Stop.

Rocky the military dog who just got saved due to the efforts of dedicated animal rescuers

just to name a few of the lives that have been saved. There have been dogs who have been rescued from kill shelters, dogs who have been adopted, cats who have been rescued from abusers, and many other animals lives who have been saved thanks to animal rescuers and just plain people who care about animals, who are on Facebook and network with each other to get the animals to safety, sign petitions, are working to change laws about animal abuse (stricter and enforced), end breed discrimination and stop puppy mills.

So why does it seem that Facebook is in no hurry to fix the snafu that is hindering the efforts of animal rescue groups this week…which is putting many animals lives in danger EVERY DAY?

Animal rescuers are not the only ones affected by the glitch but animals lives ARE constantly on the line. Rescuers are concerned that each and every hour of every day animals that could be saved are dying because the rescuers cannot post and crosspost to the groups nor make comments to the groups to get the word out.

Networking has slowed down considerably and many feel frustrated and wonder how long “being in jail” on Facebook will continue.  There is word that Facebook is aware and working on the problem but so far, there is no indication as to when this is going to be resolved.

Like too many corporations and big companies these days, fantastic Customer service, par EXCELLENCE, does not seem to be a priority for Facebook. There is little communication, no way to reach an actual person and all people get back are automatic form emails which is insufficient feedback. No public statements have been made by Mark Zuckerberg or his minions. No media have discussed this topic except for bloggers like myself.

People are seeking creative solutions including finding another social media platform that WILL respond to the needs of their customers, even non-paying ones.

People all over the world are generally FED UP and tired of governments, politicians and big corporation lack of response to their needs.

And then there are stories such as this that highlight how welcome, rare and indeed miraculous it is nowadays when a company DOES care about their customers, DOES provide Excellent customer service, and as a result obtains favorable PR and new customers through their own efforts.  I’ve never even heard of this company nor do I even eat steak, but I would DEFINITELY go to their restaurant because of this.

http://shankman.com/the-best-customer-service-story-ever-told-starring-mortons-steakhouse/

So we need to come up with more CREATIVE SOLUTIONS for overcoming the Facebook suspension. But please share this one:

Attn: all Patrick movement admins and other animal advocacy rescue groups, Amelia Latham was just telling me that if you will create “group” pages, all these community pages should create them then we can post to group pages, it seems without restriction. How about it? and if you are a poster and are not banned, can u please let others know about this, pls share, thanks!

Where there is a WILL there is a WAY !!!!!

and we also need to think outside Facebook too I think… not have all of our eggs in one basket !!!

patrick is my homeboy… animal groups gone wild

well it is supposed to be Pit Bull Appreciation Day but with Facebook glitching, cannot post as much as I’d like to about pit bulls… and especially with all of the paranoia running wild… yes, people it is a conspiracy… of course the musicians, artists, business people and just regular people who also are affected by the suspension are just a smokescreen, covering up for Mark Z.’s targeting animal groups… please get over yourselves for the sake of the animals!!!

got a very nice t-shirt from the good folks at (appropriately named for today) Crazy Dog

http://www.crazydogtshirts.com/servlet/the-2084/Saint-Pat-is-my/Detail

http://www.crazydogtshirts.com/

a very nice size (extra longer and larger than i thought it would be),  a very nice kelly green color…

ok, the printing comes out in reverse on my computers camera and I don’t know how to fix that… but here’s what it looks like (I was going to dress Cici up in it, the shirt would have covered her up from head to to toe, but she would have none of it…

they asked me to pick out a t-shirt and so of course, in honor of Patrick, since they did NOT have a Cici t-shirt, I got the St. Patrick is my homeboy… not a photo of Patrick but of the actual saint.  very nice quality shirt, love it.

they have a nice selection of dog shirts, although no pit bull ones… I like the Holy Shiz Tzu one…and Pugs Not Drugs… some seriously silly ones like Amish Gone Wild, movie ones, and others…

http://www.crazydogtshirts.com/servlet/the-Dog-T-dsh-Shirts/Categories

so go look at the other t-shirts they have and tell them Cici sent ya !

sorry, they do not have a Facebook hates animal groups t-shirt… sorry I hate to be the one to break this to you diehards, but not everybody hates you, and the world does not revolve around you, seriously????

facebook spam disability project

Updates:

Important info regarding the animal rescue page suspensions.

creative solution?

post animals that need help here, without getting suspended, https://www.facebook.com/groups/194550167276394/

https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=205722829486259

Facebooks spam filtering system is affecting the everyday user. Bans for adding too many friends. Bans for sharing info with like minded individuals. Political speech is being hindered. Animal rescue groups are unable to share information to provide pets with homes. Military groups are unable to share information. Christian and other religious groups are unable to use Facebook to worship…

as I’ve said all along IT AIN’T THAT FACEBOOK IS TARGETING ANIMAL GROUPS …

http://techcrunch.com/2011/06/25/facebooks-ban-bot-leaves-some-developers-baffled-and-angry

It says in this article that developers can get reversed but it does NOT say where/how… have to investigate this… and get back with you.

Someone, who has a friend that works at Facebook, just posted the following information about the situation with the account suspensions: Apparently, Facebook has a team working to try to fix this problem. She said that people who have had their pages suspended should send an e-mail to: coop@fb.com and your suspension will be put on a “priority list.” She also asks that this info be shared with other animal advocacy groups.

perhaps this explains why both Yahoo and Facebook were acting wonky… they are doing an experiment this week…

If you have been disabled on facebook due to “spam and irrelevant” postings for 15 days, I suggest that you write to legal@facebook.com.   Here is what I wrote to them: (I also called and wrote to Facebook at info@facebook.com and press@facebook.com)…  you can also tweet facebook, @facebook and tell them to stop keeping us from saving animals lives NOW, send them a link to this blog post and/or Bob Etier article or the examiner article, pls share this with your fb friends/twitter friends, etc  thanks !!!

I am writing because numerous animal rescue / animal lovers and groups such as myself have been accused erroneously by facebook for posting spam and “irrelevant” content and disabled for 15 days…
we have been posting and cross posting about animals that need rescuing from shelters and owners… trying to find new homes for these animals.  This Is NOT SPAM NOR IRRELEVANT !!!!   These postings have helped unite pets with owners and obtained NEW homes for pets and SAVED ANIMALS LIVES !!!

l. I am NOT posting spam
2. certainly NOT posting irrelevant content

Yesterday, I asked folks to please educate the media about pit bulls due to another story where a dog was shot because a pregnant woman fell off of a ladder and her innocent dog was blamed for her death. I wanted to let everyone know about a new media project. And so I posted to numerous animal groups sites and because of that I got disabled.

therefore, please re-evaluate what you are doing because INNOCENT LIVES ARE BEING LOST due to your spam policies. There must be some way for you to figure out the difference between garbage and legitimate postings.

Thank you.

someone created a Facebook page about not suspending our animal rescue accounts…   do not know that Mark Zuckerberg and his team are reading this page but hopefully people are being professional and factual.  Name calling and threats are counter productive. Also taking this personally. I do not think the facebook spam policy is personal against animal groups. And did I find it insulting, yes. And it is not going to help for me to fly off the handle and attack every time I perceive I am being attacked.  How well do  you hear someone when they are cursing you, calling you names, and threatening you????  Save your outrage for the matters that count, the animal abusers, the unjust legal system, etc. I could be wrong but please GROW UP and speak courteously. Bees, honey or vinegar.

Patrick and Furriends Need YOU !!!

List of Banned Groups  (also now a Facebook page) here is what it says:

Here is what I found so far.  If you know of others please add to the comments.   PLEASE PLEASE If you get a free minute go to their pages and post animals in need when you have time.  Please everyone do not mass post any one link at one time as this seems to be an issue.  But if the almost 3000 of us goes to each page and posts we can still get the word out to those in need.  Thanks  ks

Dear Kisha Curtis… curious minds want to know

Dear Kisha Curtis,

On Friday, you pled not guilty to the charges against you for abusing your dog now known as Patrick.

Animal advocates rally for Patrick the pit bull as former owner pleads ‘not guilty’ | Science update
www.newjerseynewsroom.com

At the rally I held on Friday in Carmel, a few people who came by cried when they saw and heard what you did to Patrick. They were horrified.

But in your world, according to your statements and your mother’s statements, a plausible adoption method is to leave a LIVE animal tied up to a railing and SOMEONE just comes along and takes the dog off your hands… wow, how easy and convenient for you. No muss no fuss.  You don’t have to feed the dog and You don’t have to be responsible.

well, years ago, here on Planet earth, I worked at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. And what we did was we took really good care of the animals, fed them, gave them lots of water and treats, gave them medical care, played with them, socialized them, trained them and then once a week we would go to Pet Smart and talk to people about adopting the animals. When someone was interested, we’d put them through a process to see if they were a good match, able to be responsible for the animal for life and willing to do what it takes to be a pet parent. If so, they paid a fee and became pet parents.

So now, I have a few questions and comments. Curious minds want to know.

You appeared to be surprised that people are upset with you. Let’s clarify this. Hundreds of thousands of people (maybe millions) around the world have created 60+ Facebook Patrick pages (The Patrick Miracle has 104,000 fans) and created The Patrick Movement when they read about what you did to Patrick. Because we LOVE animals.

Normal people DO NOT starve animals. Celebrities Alyssa Milano, Julie Benz and Eva Longoria have posted, twittered, petitioned and facebooked for STRICTER LAWS and PUNISHMENT against people like yourself who ABUSE ANIMALS.

Eva Longoria Wants Harsher Punishment For Animal Abusers
www.ecorazzi.com
Eva Longoria and Alyssa Milano have begun their support for an online petition that will call for more severe punishment of those convicted of animal abuse.

Wanna know why?

Because there is a WELL DOCUMENTED connection between people like yourself who abuse animals who ALSO abuse children and people. Plus, we LOVE animals and cannot fathom how someone like yourself could starve an animal to the point of starvation and near death and be all smiley face in court.  Call us crazy.

So how come your story keeps changing?  In one news report I read that you left Patrick tied to the railing for a week. Today, I heard you say it was two days. Which one is it?

You claim that someone gave Patrick to you but you could not take care of Patrick. Why did you not return the dog to that person since you could not take care of the dog or give the dog to someone else who could take care of it?

If you only left Patrick without food and water for a few days or a week, then how come the veterinarian said that Patrick had been STARVED for months?  Do you leave your child without food or water for a week or months?

Did you actually ASK any of your friends, neighbors, relatives to HELP YOU FEED PATRICK or take care of him?  If not why not.

Did you not know that there are ways that you can feed a pet, places where you can get FREE PET FOOD at animal shelters and sometimes even pet stores if/when YOU ARE TRULY INDIGENT?

Have you ever heard of PETS OF THE HOMELESS?  They’re a national organization that actually help FEED PETS (FOR FREE) of people who cannot afford to feed their pets.

From today until May 15, 2011 there is an event for the Patrick Movement folks to donate pet food and feed pets at shelters (animal or homeless) or become collection sites. We crazy animal nuts actually help feed other people’s pets in addition to our own even those of us with limited means FIND WAYS TO FEED PETS (OUR OWN AND OTHER PEOPLE’S).

https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=165482906842522

What do you know, they have FIVE collection sites in New Jersey, none in Newark, ok. there Has to Be One in Newark, NJ asap.

http://www.petsofthehomeless.org/collection-sites/current-sites.html#CS%20New%20Jersey

Your defense seems to be that you chose to abandon an innocent dog WHO COULD NOT TAKE CARE OF ITSELF by tying it to the railing outside your apartment hoping SOMEONE other than you would take care of it… who was that magical SOMEONE (I’d like to meet them) and how come several eyewitnesses said that Patrick looked thin months before and was tied to the railing then, too?  Would you leave your child tied up to a railing and hope SOMEONE would come along and take care of your child, too?

How was Patrick supposed to eat, drink and go potty tied up to that railing? Or did you not think about Patrick having to do those normal things that any LIVING BEING has to do when you tied him up and abandoned him?  Did you EVER think about Patrick?

Did you not notice that Patrick looked like a skeleton, that it is NOT NORMAL for a dog to have their bones sticking out of their body because they have not enough flesh to cover the bones?  If not, why not. Do you need glasses? Would you not notice if your child had not enough flesh on their bones?

Truth be told, YOUR ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN YOUR WORDS… YOUR ACTIONS tell the world that YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT PATRICK, and YOU DID NOT CARE ABOUT PATRICK enough to FEED HIM, and MAKE SURE that he was taken care of as any regular, average, normal person would do. So that is why we cannot fathom what you did.

If I were in Newark or Albany or wherever you are, and I worked for Social Services, I would BE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR CHILD(REN) because obviously your priorities are askew, to say the least.

a·skew/əˈskyo͞o/Adverb

1. Not in a straight or level position: “the door was hanging askew on one twisted hinge”; “her hat was slightly askew“.
2. Wrong; awry: “the plan went sadly askew“; “outrageous humor with a decidedly askew point of view”.  More »

Was food and drink supposed to come magically down from the sky to take care of the dog left tied to the railing? Oh that’s right,, there was that magical SOMEONE who was supposed to some along to feed and take care of Patrick so that you could move and not have to deal with the dog anymore.

Some place I also read that you had Patrick tied up to the railing for months because the dog bit you. Why do you suppose that the dog bit you? If Patrick bit you maybe he was trying TO GET SOMETHING TO EAT (desperate times desperate measures) because YOU CHOSE NOT TO FEED HIM.

Seems like you have food to eat and drink, plus enough money to buy yourself clothes, hair weaves and make-up, what would you do if your mother left you alone as an infant to fend for yourself, no food, no water, tied up to a railing and strange people just walked on by? Maybe you would cry and hope SOMEONE would stop and take care of you. Eventually, you would die alone in agony if NO ONE did.

Patrick was on the brink of DEATH when he was brought to the hospital. Within a few hours he would have DIED. They did not think that he would live through the night. His temperature did not even register. But a beautiful doctor Lisa B. decided that she did not want Patrick to die unloved and uncared for. She wanted him to die fed, hydrated, caressed by loving hands and told he was a good boy.  So she fought to save his life. And to her surprise, he fought, too and survived. That is all Patrick needed food, water and love. And you could not, would not, did not, and refused to give that to him.

So am really trying to understand how someone could either be so cut off from reality and humanity and/ or intentionally how they could inflict such cruelty to not feed an animal for months and then leave an animal to die like that. Hungry, alone, cold, tormented, afraid.

And am thinking maybe Patrick was so hungry he probably ATE YOUR HAIR WEAVE because YOU CHOSE NOT TO FEED HIM NOR TAKE CARE OF HIM PROPERLY…

Why did you not take Patrick to the local shelter since you were unwilling and/or unable to take care of him INSTEAD OF LEAVING HIM TO THE MERCIES OF SOME MYTHICAL NONEXISTENT BEING TO TAKE CARE OF HIM?

Decent, caring normal regular average people want to know how you could be so irresponsible to an innocent animal and expect us to believe your stories.

Anyone who believes you, I’ve got a bridge to sell you in NYC.

PS: Read the story below. This woman saved two pets lives that WERE NOT EVEN HERS during a fire.
