girlfriends, go to the Ritz !

The Ritz Carleton Half Moon Bay has 52 suites that allow pets, $125 pet fee (nonreturnable), and the pet amenities include a dog bed, bowls and treats… it is a beautiful hotel with exquisite service.

Check-in was a breeze and includes a glass of wine (which I declined) but it was a very nice touch. The valet guy was very sweet and a dog lover and did not mind being enthusiastically greeted by Cici…. The staff are super friendly towards both humans and dogs.

RCHMB Beach and Resort LR

Our lovely suite had a firepit outside on a patio overlooking the golf course and gorgeous beach view… with a telescope inside the living room part of the suite, so you could see near and far as well as a fireplace, two bathrooms (water closets as they say in Europe), jacuzzi tub, as well as shower, and was beautifully decorated.

There was an amazing chocolate sculpture on the desk, which I thought was art and made out of candle wax until I tasted it and found out it was the delicious blissful stuff I love. My tummy was not up to par but it was an amazing gift along with a bottle of wine.

Luxury-Suite

Pets are not allowed in the lobby, on the golf course (except off hours), and food places.

This is a gorgeous place for a Girlfriends Getaway… grab your gal pals and go get spa treatments, massages, go shopping, fine wining and dining, relax by the pool, play with your pooch(es), play golf and more.

healdsburg is dog, wine and chocolate friendly

If you wanna do a fun weekend travel getaway, go to Healdsburg, it’s on the way to Mendocino, and a hop, skip and a jump from Santa Rosa, Bodega Bay and Sebastopol…

and when you go, visit the Camellia Inn near to the downtown area, which is also known as healdsburg avenue. The Inn has a lovely garden filled with roses and other flowers… the firelight room we stayed in is a queen deluxe, with a canopy bed, two couches, a shower, desk, no tv, wireless internet, and fireplace…

there is a nice grassy area in front for dog walks and a pool in the back. there are nine rooms, four are pet friendly… no pet amenities…

at 5:30 pm, a nice selection of wines, four kinds of cheese, crackers and olives were served…

breakfast is from 8:30 to 10 am… with coffee and tea ready at 7:30 … breakfast consisted of a small juice, scrambled eggs buffet style, no meat, there were several cereals, croissants and other bread from the town’s French bakery, Costeaux and some fruit and yogurt.

the inn has a tv room and a fridge stocked with soft drinks and water.

Lucy lewand, the owner/innkeeper has been in town an innkeeper for 28 years and is co-owner with her dad. The inn is a family owned business and they have a pet friendly winery about five blocks from the inn.

I loved the lovely bee kind bath products by Gilchrist and Soames with organic honey and red clover extracts, smells really good and has a good message, not totally eco friendly because they do contain Sodium Laureth and Lauryl Sulfate.

Also, every Wednesday, the Camellia Inn offers Chocolate Indulgence with Chocolate Cherry Bath Salts, soaps, candle, lotion, plus chocolate candies and cookies…

there are two pet stores in town… the one we like best is the Doghouse… they had a sign outside that said Dirty Dogs Wanted, because they have an on site pet groomer, a very friendly staff and the owner Natalee is very knowledgeable and helpful… they have a full range of dog items including healthy dog food, leashes, harnesses, collars, beds, treats and toys… they also have adorable dog clocks and great harnesses for dogs that pull on leash… gotta get one now !!!

near to them around the corner is an eco friendly store and Cafe Gratitude, cool name.

the other pet store Fideaux was not very friendly and had no food, just treats.

this small town apparently needs two dog parks, one for small dogs and the other for large dogs…

another pet friendly inn is the Best Western Dry Creek Inn, very friendly folks. we did not stay there but they did let me use their wireless internet and let Cici sit with me in their lobby and they have meeting rooms for workshops and seminars.

The town’s pet friendly wineries include Selby Wine Tasting Room, where I tasted Selby Zinfandel Port wine with chocolate from Sweet Memories (a chocolate shop in town that makes handmade chocolates, yum)… I tried the dark chocolate filled with ginger and the owner also gave me this chocolate covered peanut brittle type sample which was absolutely divine and even better with the port… and that is about all for my wine tasting exploits.

The french bakery called Costeaux on Healdsburg Avenue offers dogs and their owners outside seating and doggie biscuits, that are Cici tested and approved… Made with care by Bram and Matt for the dog in your life. Official taste testing completed by Maggie and Copper.

Ingredients: Enriched flour, water, salt, yeast, egg, bacon. (Net Wt. 16 oz)

they also have yummy delicious three chocolate truffle cake… and other chocolate cakes, cookies and chocolate candies.

Be sure to also visit the chocolate store called Sweet Memories with divine chocolate.

Powell’s Candy Shoppe has all kinds of candies and chocolates and plays the Willie Wonka Chocolate Factory Song all day.

russian river has gone to the dawgs…and chickens…

Cici and I left Nevada late, about 10 a.m. and drove via 88 down to Jackson… unlike in January, when we encountered lots of weather, snow, in other words, the morning’s drive was a breeze… we stopped off at the Sequoia drive-in before Jackson for a turkey burger, they have the best… Cici licked feet of all who would let her and got some treats…

We drove on the 12 which turned out to be the long way, got lost, and then got back on track on the 80 to the 37 and exited in Petaluma, a shortcut… then we got lost again trying to find out way onto River Road in Guerneville, our final destination.

Finally, after three people directed us to go in the wrong direction, we made it here to the Sonoma Orchid Inn… we could have opted to go the way I know to go, through Bodega Bay, but my neck and back hurt from all of the heavy lifting and packing the car, and I thought it would be quicker to go the way I didn’t know… duh… we will leave here and go to Bodega, visit Sebastopol, and get snacks at Trader Joe’s in Santa Rosa. We will then take the 101 north to the 128 up to Mendocino and Little River, CA this afternoon…

The Sonoma Orchid Inn is a sweet place. It used to be called the Ridenhour Inn… I love the new name. Owners and innkeepers of the inn for two years, Dana and Brian, instantly came out to greet us with their two dogs Saffy (Saffron) and Cori (Coriander), the spice dogs… Saffy offered Cici her own very special hoof chew which Cici confiscated immediately. I made her give it back and Saffy once again gave it up to her guest. What a generous little host. She’s really cute, too…

While we chatted and got the lay of the land, Cici decided to scope out and sniff the new digs. Ignoring Saffy almost completely, except to growl at the girl for having the audacity of taking her hoof chew back, at which point I took the chew away from her and gave it to Saffy’s owner. Cici is still wondering what happened to that yummy chew.

The inn has ten rooms, most of them pet friendly. We are staying in the Madrone room, nice and big, with a back glass door, a fireplace (the weather is too warm, shucks), a fan, very nicely furnished, a large bed, king or queen, a TV, no phone, wireless Internet…

We’ve heard rumors about two hens/chickens who will be out to greet us soon… and at 9 a.m., we will have breakfast made from the fresh eggs and organic produce grown here… There are always fresh cookies and coffee out in the main room where the office is.  All in all, it is peaceful and quiet and set off the road a tiny bit into the woods.

Nearby is the fabulous Armstrong Woods, about 5-10 minutes from here, rumors of a great Thai restaurant, which I would have tried but was too tired to move last night, and it’s about 20 minutes to Bodega Bay. There are wonderful wineries, and Healdsburg, Sebastopol, Santa Rosa and Windsor have some delicious chocolate yummies… we may check out later on our way out…
