🌍 Two years on, advocacy for #AssistiveTechnology is translating into global action. At #UNGA79, Paralympian and disability rights advocate Anne Wafula Strike MBE, PLY called for #AssistiveTechnology to be part of conversations across governments and sectors: “Every government, every department should actually be talking about assistive technology… When a disabled person is around the table, then they become part of the solution.” Since then, continued advocacy, collaboration and collective efforts across the assistive technology community have helped build greater global recognition of the importance of access to assistive technology. That momentum recently reached a historic milestone: the UN General Assembly adopted the first-ever resolution dedicated to access to assistive technology, reflecting years of work to put assistive technology higher on the global agenda. A landmark step for access, inclusion and opportunity. On 2 September, the UN General Assembly adopted, by consensus, its first resolution on access to assistive technology. For children, this is especially significant: eyeglasses, hearing aids, wheelchairs, communication devices and other technologies can help make education, participation and independence possible. But access is never only about a product. It requires strong systems, skilled personnel, quality and affordable products, reliable supply chains, financing and services connected across health, education and social protection. UNICEF is committed to working with governments and partners to make this resolution real for children. Through its Strategic Plan for 2026–2029, UNICEF has set a clear ambition: 90 million children screened and accessing disability support services and assistive technology, when needed, for their development and participation. Your content should offer insights, comparisons, or lessons that practitioners, researchers, and policymakers from multiple countries can draw on and should identify what could be adapted, replicated, or scaled in other countries or contexts. We have an abundance of opportunities for speakers to join the WDEC program and we welcome submissions from people with disability, employment support providers, academics, inclusive businesses and others.
