🌍 Who is making TB services work for the people who are hardest to reach? Every person with TB deserves access to the services they need — regardless of who they are, where they live, or how difficult they may be to reach. Yet for miners, migrants and refugees, children, Indigenous peoples, people experiencing homelessness, and people living in urban poverty continue to face barriers to TB and drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) diagnosis, treatment, prevention and care. This year, the Stop TB Partnership is shining a light on the grassroots organisations going the extra mile to overcome these barriers. 🏆 Nominations are now open for the 2026 Stop TB Partnership Community Award – the Difference Makers Award, with the theme: Serving the Underserved In partnership with Humana People to People Foundation, we are looking for local civil society organisations in TB and DR-TB high-burden countries that have made exceptional efforts in 2026 to reach people who are too often left behind. The winning organisation will receive US$50,000 through a co-funded grant from the Stop TB Partnership and Humana to help continue and build on its work. 💡 Do you know an organisation making a difference? Supporting #Australia to expand access to essential TB medicines for people affected by TB through our Stop TB Partnership’s Global Drug Facility (GDF) collaboration and partnership with Pro Pharmaceuticals Group, Sandip Manku. A recent delivery of medicines for drug-sensitive TB, including formulations for both adults and children, has now reached communities in need. We are proud to contribute to a global response that helps ensure quality-assured TB treatment reaches the people and communities who need it, wherever they are.

Supporting the fight against TB in Papua New Guinea The Stop TB Partnership’s Global Drug Facility (GDF) is proud to support Papua New Guinea in ensuring timely access to essential anti-TB medicines. By using our procurement tools – specifically our stockpile, we helped facilitate the expedited delivery of medicines through government funding. We deeply value our longstanding collaboration with the Papua New Guinea National Department of Health and look forward to continuing to work together to strengthen access to TB medicines in the years ahead.

What happens when people affected by TB are given real power to decide where investments go? In Viet Nam, they chose to invest in social and financial protection systems. New research published in BMC Public Health shares how the #ReimaginingTBCare (RTC) initiative of Stop TB Partnership placed people affected by TB at the heart of investment decisions. 🔹 The Leadership Group brought together TB survivors, healthcare providers, policymakers, researchers, and civil society 🔹 Every member had an equal vote 🔹 Anonymous scoring supported open and equitable decision-making 🔹 Social and financial protection was selected as the priority for investment This is what meaningful community engagement looks like: not asking people to endorse a solution already chosen, but giving them the power to define the problem, evaluate options, and select the response. Because people affected by TB are not only beneficiaries of the TB response. They are experts in what needs to change. The study was implemented by the Stop TB Partnership's RTC initiative and Friends for International TB Relief in collaboration with Viet Nam’s National Tuberculosis Program, with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). 📢 New resource: Implementing CAD for TB Screening: An Implementation Plan Workbook for Country Teams Computer-aided detection (CAD) with chest X-ray is transforming how we screen for TB, but rolling it out well takes more than just procuring the technology. This practical workbook, developed by Stop TB Partnership, walks country teams step-by-step through: 🔸 Planning: stakeholder mapping, situational assessment, target population identification, site selection 🔸 Procurement: selecting CAD software and CXR equipment 🔸 Preparation: SOPs and training materials 🔸 Implementation: CAD threshold calibration, interoperability, radiation safety 🔸 Monitoring & Evaluation and Budgeting With ready-to-use worksheets, sample SOPs, and real-world examples of threshold calibration using the TB cascade of care, this is designed to be a working tool. Let's be clear: Finding TB strengthens the wider health system Meghalaya State in India offers a concrete, real, powerful example: take screening to communities, integrate TB with NCD and oral cancer screening, use innovative AI solutions and use the same last-mile platform to address multiple health needs. The lesson is important: we do not need to build parallel systems. We can make existing outreach, diagnostics and community platforms work harder — for TB and for health. Ending TB will require us to go beyond facilities, beyond silos and all the way to the last mile. Discussing TB, domestic financing of the TB response, and country ownership with members of the Uganda Parliament - this is what Stop TB Partnership Uganda organized during the Parliamentary Breakfast meeting on 21 August 2026. Even though she addressed the audience virtually, our ED congratulated the MoH and Commissioner leadership and vision, the hard work of Stop TB Partnership and NTLP Uganda and strongly called for the need to integrate advocacy, approaches and delivery for TB, HIV, Malaria in the country – as the only realistic way forward.

📢 New research from Janna Health Foundation and SUFABEL Community Development Initiative in Nigeria, in collaboration with Freundeskreis für Internationale Tuberkulosehilfe e.V. in Viet Nam through the Stop TB Partnership’s TB REACH initiative, highlights the economic and social impact of TB on families in Northeast Nigeria. Informal healthcare providers, including traditional healers and patent medicine vendors, are often the first point of care. When trained and linked to the health system, they can help people access TB diagnosis and treatment earlier. Yet the findings show that free TB treatment alone is not enough: 🔷27% of households faced catastrophic costs, spending more than 1/5 of their annual household income on TB related costs 🔷62% experienced food insecurity during treatment 🔷33% borrowed money and 27% sold household assets to meet TB-related costs 🔷Families with the lowest household incomes were the most severely affected These findings point to a clear opportunity: complement accessible, community-linked TB services with measures such as nutritional support and income assistance. Together, these approaches can improve access to care, reduce financial hardship, and help families remain economically secure throughout treatment.
