Cursed Events, as can be seen in my blog, are among the events that I enjoy covering.  It is not because of the ‘swag’ that bloggers get as I often have no problem buying things that I enjoy.  That was one of the reasons that I endeavored to take up blogging in the first place with the desire to translate my enjoyment of the creativity within Second Life crafted by all the artists that tickle my muse to breathing and delight.  With the newest event series, “A Tattered Page“, this focus can be brought to light in just allowing the pictures to pull sentience from the dream and into things we see, but also words can be turned to the purpose. During this event, items from participating designers can be found in their stores with some others having put the items on marketplace as that was an option too.

As the saying goes, a picture can say a ‘thousand words’, but what we read often also invokes other feelings to desires from the audience when tailored with such intent.  As a writer that only lately turned to expression through images, this excited me, and so I will see what I can do.  Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, has been a book that I have enjoyed reading in the past as well as even teaching in classes with what I really do.  I can understand if some hesitate at seeing one book celebrated at the center of an event, but when true lovers of that literature come forward, it is even more enjoyable to see what will result.

Beauty, betrayal, monsters, and what we find in ourselves when we attempt to cheat the natural course of our mortal coil, what will happen?  A woman in love combined with a dark and story night of madness can produce so many possibilities…

The Lady’s Folly 

It was in the midst of the storm that I found him, my love, who had been lost in so many ways even before we recovered him from the peaceful rest within the sea.  The droplets of rain pelted against my skin, plastering my dress and hair with moisture, as I just stared at the evidence before me of where he had gone.  The small dinghy was barely afloat in the waters that best matched my mood of rage and sorrow. Yet, I was also happy for him as I knew that he, at last, found his rest.  Still, it was selfish of my lover to leave me alone like this, and it  was then that the seeds of my idea grew in the ashes and flowers of my mirth to mourning.

His body was taken from the water by others as I was led back to the manor.  I was listless for days afterward, barely eating and functioning with each day passing in a blur.  Every corner of the house reminded me of him, and the outdoors was no better with nature’s sickening humor of marking each day with warmer weather and sunshine that we had seen all year.

Finally, I emerged from the tower with a new determination after a vision of my love came to me with the complaint of how cold and lonely he was.   I knew, at least, that it was an apparition in my madness and not truly a ghost come from the grave to mock me.  Numbers floated to the surface of my delusions along with bits of our notes upon how to create life from where there had been none before.

That is when the idea began to take hold.

I would rebuild him as we had the technology so lately provided by our work.  The lab still lay in its pristine state from when we had — My mind shied away from that particular circumstance and instead wandered to numbers tied within equations, and from there, the music unfurled.  I played my cello in order to get more inspiration, and Mozart’s Requiem, a piece none too old in its birth, provided me with yet more secrets in bringing life again to that which had passed.

I began to plan, and find a way to make my tears come from joy instead of sadness. I risked damnation from all we held holy and knew, but I was determined. No matter what the cost..

Madness births necessity, and necessity is ever the mother of invention.
