A monochromatic rendering of an old stone temple in Sassvad, Maharashtra. Nandi – Lord Shiva’s vahan sits outside a minor temple in the main temple complex in Saswad, Maharahstra. An auspicious swastika mark is seen at entrance of the temple with ghats next to it. The nearby river seems to have shrunk in size by a summer drought. A mountain range and a road over a small bridge can be seen in the backdrop. A large tamarind tree with long curved branches seem to graciously envelope the roof of this temple. The lovely ancient Sangameshwar stone temple was built along the confluence of Karha & Chamli Rivers by the Yadav dynasty. Water soluble color graphite (Artgraf tailor shape) on white paper. Sugarcane juice vendor

On a hot sunny day a young jean clad man and his wife operate a colorful mobile sugarcane juice crusher on the sidewalks of the streets of Nerul, Navi Mumbai, India. The wife guides the sugarcane stalks through, while the man swings the crusher around. The crusher is dedicated to Goddess Jagdamba Mohta with a fresh garland of flowers hangs on the top after a morning prayer. Notice the lemon and green chilli at the bottom of the cart to ward off evil spirits. In summer months these vendors head from the hinterland of Maharashtra to the city to make a living selling delicious cold sugarcane juice. From photo taken in 2014. © 2015
