Radha and Krishna in the forest

The Madhubani painting depicts the divine ethereal love between Radha and Krishna. Radha dressed in all her finery and Krishna with his flute meet in the forest by the river where even nature and flowers are yearning to get closer to them. Animals and birds also carry symbolism. Peacock represents rain, happiness, fish prosperity, turtle long lasting relationship, cow motherhood and so on. Major highlights are the large eyes, vibrant colors, double lines, geometric patterns. Colors used in Madhubani paintings are usually derived from plants and natural sources. A 2500 + year old folk art, the history of Madhubani paintings is said to date back to the time of Ramayana, when King Janaka  of Mithila asked an artist to capture his daughter Sita’s wedding to prince Rama in art.
