Steel Magnolias is one of my favorite movies. I think it has so many quotable moments. But there is one quote that I think about a lot recently. “The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.”

I was never quite an accessories person. I appreciate people who are. I love seeing people with lots of jewelry and hair ribbons and purses and other random things. I know that the difference between just wearing clothes and styling an outfit pretty much lies in the accessories. But for most of my life (well, lives) I just wear clothes. But recently in SL, I’ve gotten a lot more interested in accessories. If I’m going out shopping, I like holding a purse or a cup. I’m trying to buy more jewelry, although I do wear the same stuff often simply because I forget to take it off. I don’t want to just wear clothes. I want to lean into truly developing my style.

I Have Always Been A Storm

When I was a child, one year we had a pretty bad tornado season. Tornadoes in the spring and sometimes fall are not uncommon here. Nothing ever happened to us because my mom said we were protected. (Although that never stopped her from tossing me in a closet with a flashlight and a bottle of water during a tornado warning. Even when I was 18.) But that particular year, I always remember because a tornado had blown through late in the evening and my parents had the news on. They were showing a neighborhood that had gotten struck. It was a fairly well-to-do neighborhood and it was just destroyed. And as they were panning around the wreckage of these peoples’ homes, there she was. An older woman wearing nothing but a very small camisole and some granny panties.

I learned a couple of things that evening. 1, tornadoes don’t care who you are. They strike randomly. 2, live news is crazy sometimes. And 3, you really should wear pajamas during tornado season.

Anyway, The Kiwi Co. is OPEN!!!! If you were sad about Blueberry closing, it’s time to get over it, because the time of the Kiwi is here!

If You Heard Me Say I’m Sad, I Was Joking

The other night I was a little bored and a little lonely in SL, so I put on a cute outfit and went out to a club. I didn’t really want to talk to anyone, but I also didn’t NOT want to talk to someone. I went to a club I’ve been to before, one where typically I get quite a few messages. It was a slower than usual night, so I just danced and listened to music and people watched. Eventually, I did get a message. This guy said I was really cute and sexy. I said thank you. He said I was the best looking woman in the whole club. I said thank you again.

Then I figured, well, I better head out. Because if I’m the best looking right now, that’s not going to get any better. So I left.

I’m really good at this meeting people thing.

Anyway, while I was people watching, I saw someone wearing cute shoes, so I had to go buy them. I shop better than I talk, I guess!

She’s Got A Little Demon In Her

So this is going to sound really… I don’t know. Pathetic? 🤣 Anyway. Sometimes I really do miss having a partner in Second Life. Someone who leaves me a good morning message, someone I can look forward to seeing when I log in, someone who is always available to take a photo with me. I have guy friends I know would be happy to pose with me, but I’m so bad about asking people for anything.

But the problem is that I don’t have a ton of time to invest the way I used to. And I’m not interested in going RL with anyone, meet ups or whatever. Texts during the day, messages, etc, that’s great. Yes, let’s talk about our RL. But more than that? No. And sometimes I’m not going to be in SL. I have other things to do. That has to be okay, too. For a lot of guys I’ve met, it’s not. So… whateverrrr.

Of course, there’s also the problem that I can be absolutely feral. But, that’s a story for another day.

Time To Focus On You

So if you remember in my blog post the other day, I mentioned that my mom was in the hospital. She’s out now, but settling into a care facility. It’s been a bit of a transition for both of us. But we’re doing it. I have my mornings back, to sleep in, to stream again, to take care of things. I spend my afternoons visiting with her. I’m usually back home by 5 and have my evenings free. I don’t have to be worried that she’s alone at home and something crazy is about to happen.

I’d love to say that means I’m relaxed, but I’m not. I worry about different things now. I know that I should take this time to focus on me, though. To focus on my mental health and my quality of life. It’s hard. But I know it’s time.

I’m a girl on the internet. And as such, I get guys sliding into my DMs on occasion. Most of the time it’s okay and I enjoy the conversation a lot. Other times, they try too hard and it’s kind of gross to me. (I’m a demi. Chatting me up about sex immediately doesn’t get anyone anywhere.) Once in a great while, it just makes me angry. What makes someone think they can just speak to a literal stranger in a way that is very obviously for their benefit and not one ounce of consideration for what I might want? Gives me the ick. Then I have to be angry and mean and slash them with my vicious vicious words.

But hey. Try talking to me anyway. Let’s see which way it goes!

I Feel A Sin Comin’ On

I’m a Texas girl. I think everyone knows that by now. So as a Texas girl, I am required by birth to love boots. I can’t help it, it’s simply in my blood. When I was younger, I used to have a pair of blue ropers. (Ropers are wider in the toe and have a shorter leg part as compared to a traditional cowboy boot.) Oh I loved my blue boots. They were kind of a dark slate blue. I’d pair them up with jeans and a cute tank top or t-shirt and hit up the country bars with friends. I was so wild in those boots. I had other boots. Brown, black, lace up, heeled. But those blue boots. Those were my “I’m gonna kiss boys and be a menace” boots.

I don’t really wear boots in my offline life anymore, and I certainly don’t go to country bars. But in SL, I appreciate gorgeous boots. And it’s 50/50 on the menace part.

Now I’m Stronger Than Yesterday

I really like the store Madame Noir in SL. If you’ve never been, you really should go. They have some of the coolest clothes, including outfits that sparkle! (I bought a sparkle dress thinking maybe one day I’ll go to a club.) The store is often in weekend sales, too, so you can try some of their fabulous clothes inexpensively. My catsuit today is from that store. But I do have ONE problem with the store. Well, 2, if you count that they don’t make clothes for Lara X Petite right now, but a lot of stores don’t, so I won’t hold that against them. No, my big problem with Madame Noir? Their HUD. More specifically, the fact that the HUD actually SCREAMS REALLY LOUDLY at you when you put it on. Like, a horror movie scream!

I didn’t notice it the first time I got something from there. I don’t always wear my headset when I’m at the desk. But the second time? Oh my gosh. It scared me so much! I didn’t know where the scream was coming from and it just was a lot!

I don’t need a fancy HUD with screams and bells and animated anything. In fact, I’m still kind of old school and just want to throw everything on the ground to open it. 😂 But at least I know, and now you know, that when it comes to Madame Noir, take your headphones off before the scream. Unless you like that kind of thing, of course.
