About the event

The Circular Economy Hotspot is a global platform for accelerating the transition to circularity.

Each year, one country/city becomes the meeting point of those shaping the future of the circular economy,  across business, policy and innovation.

It is not a traditional conference.
It is an international stage where local action meets global impact.

Where companies, policymakers, financial institutions, innovators and communities come together to move from ambition to implementation.

The Hotspot showcases and scales real circular solutions, from business models to policy approaches, while fostering cross-border collaboration, knowledge exchange and new partnerships.

In 2026, the Business Council for Sustainable Development in Hungary (BCSDH) and the Hungarian Circular Economy Platform will host the European Circular Economy Hotspot in Budapest.

The 2026 edition places a strong focus on the business dimension of circularity.

It brings together senior decision-makers, global thought leaders and market actors to explore how circular economy becomes:
→ measurable
→ scalable
→ and investable

Previous European hosts include Dublin, Bottrop, Catalonia, Belgium, Scotland, Luxembourg, Wales and Ljubljana.

Each edition strengthens international collaboration, connecting local ecosystems with global networks.

We also encourage participants to extend their stay and visit ENVIRONTEC powered by ÖKOINDUSTRIA, the international exhibition for environmental technologies, waste, water and sustainability.

About the organisers

The Circular Economy Hotspot Budapest 2026 is hosted by the Business Council for Sustainable Development in Hungary (BCSDH) in collaboration with the Hungarian Circular Economy Platform.

BCSDH

The Business Council for Sustainable Development in Hungary (BCSDH) is the Hungarian partner organization of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Established in 2007, BCSDH has more than 150 corporate members, representing business leaders of companies that contribute 40% of Hungary’s GDP.

The organization’s primary goal is to promote the integration and implementation of the three pillars of sustainable development—economic growth, ecological balance, and social equity—into corporate practices.

Circular Economy Platform

Launched in 2018 by BCSDH, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, the Hungarian Circular Economy Platform brings together more than 100 companies and organizations.

Its mission is to advance the transition to a circular economy through:
→ knowledge sharing
→ collaboration
→ joint initiatives across sectors.
