[0134] Missae Breves : Konrad Junghanel, Cantus Colln

Bach : Missae Breves
Cantus Colln
Konrad Junghanel

With this post the revisiting the year 2008 comes to the end. Stats provided by the Blogger confirm that revisiting the posts was a good idea, these particular pages have got about 100000 visits since 23rd of March. I hope provided records constitute a fine selection among 500 000 hours of classical music freely available elsewhere. I examined all these posts and in the process it took me some time to repair the html code which became obsolete after several Blogger engine updates, to remove dead links and to add some new information. It was nice to find out that most of the links were still available, also I managed to reupload several posts as well.

[0129] 20th Century Masterpieces : 100 Years of Classical Music. Volume 1

20th Century Masterpieces : 100 Years of Classical Music
EMI Classics, 2008
Vol.1 - CDs 01-08

The works in this set of 16 CDs have been arranged in strict chronological order of composition, the first disc beginning with a work from 1901 that has become one of the most popular works in the classical repertoire, mainly through its use in another great 20th-century art form - film (Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto). Thereafter each disc in the set takes the listener on a fascinating journey through the century, composer by composer and work by work, from Russian Romanticism, French Impressionism, English Pastoralism, Atonalism, Neo Classicism right up to Post Modernism, and from as wide a range of countries and genres as possible.

[0128] Beethoven: Piano Sonatas No.14, 8 and 23 - Daniel Barenboim

Ludwig van Beethoven : Piano Sonatas
Moonlight, Pathétique, Appassionata
Daniel Barenboim
Recording 5/1981 and 12/1983
"...Barenboim brings two clear gains—the inclusion of the finale repeat in the Appassionata and a more flowing tempo for the first movement of the Moonlight. The Appassionata finale is if anything even more daring, even more terrifying than before, threatening to run right off the rails just before the presto, and the slow movement is now a truer andante con moto..." -- Gramophone [6/1987]
