The Sun Always Shines

image

“The Sun always shines, we just can’t always see it, because of the clouds!”

A young boy was explaining, what was, to him, an absolutely astounding fact, to his Mother as they walked home after school one day.

His Mother, much to her credit, I think, received this information with an incredulous sounding “Really? That is amazing, dear.”

The little lad, his chest puffed out, and a gleam in his eyes, strutted on home, the bearer of important news. I couldn’t help but smile.

On a cold, dark, cloudy, dank, overcast day, it can be extremely hard to envision a bright yellow orb beaming away up there.

It set me to thinking, which can often be a dangerous and sometimes painful occurrence on my part, about the parallels one could draw from such a statement.

What if instead of “The sun” and “shines”, we could substitute the words “people” and “Smile”?

Like this…

“People always smile; we just can’t always see it for the clouds.”
What if, just as the sun’s default setting is shining, our default setting is happiness?

I can partake of my favourite activities or hang around with my favourite people, happy and contented. You don’t always see a smile on my face the whole time, but there is definitely a smile in my heart.

Is the smile always there? Are worry, stress, anger, pain, depression, grief and sorrow just some of the varied thickness of “mind clouds” that can temporarily block the view?

What a thought! All we’d ever require to be deliriously happy all the time is a good stiff breeze to shift those nasty black clouds.

Yes, It is a very over simplified model of the human psyche, and probably very inacurate,  but as I am an over simplified human with no grounding in psychology or affairs of the mind, I can only stumble around in the dark here.

I’m certain people have devoted their entire lives to understanding this stuff, and  in a real world maladies of the mind cannot be swept away on the proverbial breeze.

If we look for it though, and really want to find it, happiness is, for most, within our reach.

Since I clearly am very ill informed  on this, and have no idea where to look for answers, any thoughts, input and opinions you might have, relating to this or any topic would be very gratefully recieved.

Thank You!
