After about 3 min in, I already have to write something about it,
The subject of "driving yourself to a place where you have independent sources of income" at the 3:20sec mark.
One of the things I have found is that the more self sufficient I am, and no debt life, Is that the less I worry about money.
Pretty much every cash income I make gets at least half dedicated to increasing the self sufficiency,. Be it a tool, solar, vehicle, home improvement etc.
A prime example at this moment is that the temp is in the low 90's, and my 2000 dollar solar system is not only fully charged battery, but also running the air conditioner.
At my present consumption, It is likely 2 years to recoup the money spent. Yet... Is it really a pay it forward or a cut the dependency?
With the economic forecast increasingly looking dark, and political forecast as well; having a self owned power source that not only functions as the backup, but as the primary power source for 12-14 hours per day, and in emergency, I could run 24/7 and be comfortable with some cutbacks.
Fiat money spent today on these goods is as good as or better than paying over time or risking running out of money.
Years ago, I had a very bad economic problem. My biz partner ran off with the money, and left me without money even to keep my lights on. We was literally living on maybe 20-30 bucks a week, and had monthly parables piling up. My gas guzzling Chevy van was broken down, and no money to repair, nor could I afford to even drive it. A 1 day commute to the shop was 5-6 bucks and a trip downtown was 20 bucks.
Now, Even if it came to that again, I still have electricity. I have 2 relatively good shape fuel economic vehicles and one is a truck that absolutely sips diesel. 2 months and the fuel bill has been about 50 bucks with a hole in the fuel tank leaking 1/4 of that fuel out till that was repaired.
Point being. Every bit of power I make myself is the same as money in the pocket. AND since it is not a transaction, it can not be accounted for nor taxed.
The same goes for food. Every bit of food I grow is that much less that I have to work, earn money and buy from someone else. Skip the middle man. This is a ongoing project however which brings me to last point.
The more practice I get at making stuff for myself, the easier it gets to have the 'nice things' without actually having to spend large amounts of money to buy.
One recent example is my kitchen cabinets. When I bought my house in 2005, I opted out of the included cabinets from the developer package. They were basically concrete block, covered in tile.
Life got in the way and I had only a couple shitty things to put my stuff in and some racking shelves.
Couple weeks ago, in between some projects, I got a couple pieces of cheap 1 inch square tubing, and put my workers to task building me a kitchen counter and cabinet. Plywood over here is still very cheap vs the USA, so I covered it with 1/2 inch marine ply that is about 15 bucks a sheet. 2 Sheets of ply, 4 pieces of tubing, some 2 dollar hinges, 15 bucks of ceramic floor tile for the countertop, plastic varnish and sanding sealer to round it out, along with some Ikea cabinet drawer basket things I got in Kuwait back in 2011. Total cost was maybe a 100 bucks including labor vs god knows how much to hire it out. Likely 500-100 bucks.
Now of course one is not born into this self sufficient thing. You have to work for it, and plan. Years of work and planning.
The sooner you start however, the sooner you will get to that place.
Even you apartment dwellers. It is not hard nor expensive to plant some 5 gallon buckets of veggies. Go fishing for your dinner and stop buying the latest and greatest new car. You got a balcony, you got room for a couple solar panels to run things.
Stop chasing that magical credit score bullshit life. The more you provide for yourself, the richer your life will be. Cut out the banker and gov middlemen.
If you’re very lucky, maybe you’ll get a talking smart dog for companionship and security in the Wastelands.

Solar off grid update 2
So the bluetooth data logger arrived...
Except that it says wifi data logger on the box and the label of the unit.
And it does not work, no lights...
Opened it up, and there is a bluetooth antenna in it. wtf?
Sent it back for refund. I guess I will just get a really long USB cable and run it to the office PC.
Hot season is here, that time when the monsoon rain has not arrived yet. Dry and sunny,
Battery addition is needed, but budget for other things comes now as the shop finally got a much overdue pickup truck. A very old 1998 Mazda pickup with a non turbo 1.8 diesel.
I have been de-Mexican the mods that was on it. The goofy fender flares, 4 mis matched tires all different sizes and rotten. Front end lowering was reversed. New brakes, shocks, bushings, tie rods, pretty much the entire suspension system consumable parts replaced, even if the parts looked okay, since the cost is so low, and the parts were removed anyways, I just had everything replaced.
It now rides like a new truck.
First gear is so low I start out in second, and it is pretty much out of breath above 60mph. Although I need a new steering gearbox gear cause there is backlash in the steering, making anything above 35mph a bit nerve wracking.
On the plastic scene. Day number 5 into building a 10 ton heated sheet press. It will make 4x4 foot sheets of plastic from shredded recycled stuff. Thin sheets can be used for vacuum forming, and thicker ones can be used for boats, or whatever.
However the machine is for a customer, all the good stuff always goes to customers.
