No Vax, no entry in the supermarket, bank and mall here

Likely this will not last long.  Although only 50% chance.

I was carded, and said I do not have it and never will.  Female guard looked dumbfounded.  Let me in anyways.  Had to ship something.

They tried no jab, no public transport last month and it did not go over well.  Lots of cries of human rights violations.

The mall on the other hand has had the center courtyard packed for damn near a year jabbing people.  Big line yesterday to get their vax aids.

We still do not know if this vax aids is sexually transmissible either.    I am certainly not banging the wife until I know either way.

Was going to take a pic of the sign, but there was some manager of the store messing with the sign.  Looks like someone vandalized it.

There are other supermarkets that will take my money and do not do this shit.

The supermarket at the mall I noticed has become more expensive than the others now.  Pretty much everything across the board.  Noticed that the mission tortillas that were formerly from Australia went up in price a lot, and now made in China.  Almost 3 bucks for 8 damn tortillas.  Will make my own instead.

Making pita bread this morning.  It is just bread dough, rolled out into the usual shape and cooked like a tortilla on a hot cast iron pan.  Will go well with some cheese for brunch.  With practice and a good grade of flour you too can make your own bread.  Biggest barrier is getting a good flour.  All purpose flour is shit for bread.  Need the actual bread flour.  Here it is usually only sold in big sacks.  Which is okay cause I get a free cloth pillow case after I empty the sack.  (cloth sack)

Have really changed shopping habits since starting on this self reliant push. I guess since it has been going on long enough now that it is more of a lifestyle change.  Very little purchasing of the ready to eat over priced stuff now.  All basics and home cooking.  Well not all, I do occasionally get some fried chicken from 7/11 and the occasional pizza.  Although I prefer homemade pizza, it is sometimes not worth the hassle of goin to the store or making the cheese from the powdered milk.

re Canada land.  I find it amazing, but not surprising that the police can kill a little old woman in a walker in front of parliament and it is not mentioned in the world news.  In other times when the beast controlled the media less, this would have been front page.  We can not get our validation from the press.

Meanwhile also the Canada regime is seizing bank accounts and trying to go after crypto.  Using the term "pro-trump" supporters as a epithet and pejorative.

This pretty much tells you all you need to know about crypto.  Now if you are 'investing' and speculating in that shit, well that is dumb.  But if you are using this as a means of cross border transactions and untraceable payments as it was intended, then good on ya.

Canned meat results

Went to the meat market and meat prices went back up.

Pictured 45usd of canned meats from the pressure cooker.  Much higher quality than store bought.  Beef and pork.  Prepared to the recipe posted earlier today.

3 quart canned adobo pork, 2 quart beef with curing salt and 8 pints of pork canned with the ham curing mix.

So much work to do.  This is only a few weeks of meat put away.

As budget allows.  60 quart jars and 16 pint jars remaining to be filled.  Was quite surprised as to how much meat fit in the jars.  One kilo of beef filled 2 quarts.  First time with a pressure cooker.

Corn harvested and time to plant again.

The final harvest of this planting.

If I had processed this entire crop like this, looking at around 15-18 sandwich baggies.  A paltry amount of corn for the work.  But then again the location is going to be re-planted asap.

Also the corn quality is light years ahead of store bought.  It was exquisitely delicious.

I expect a bigger yield of food from the sunflowers.

I will plant corn again.  Yes I know people say do not monocrop.  Will give everything a good bug spray, and fertilizing during planting.

Saturday morning, off to the shop to ship some orders then home for the weekend.

This weeks pantry had roughly 60 quarts added to it, plus a case of canned peas.  50 cans of peas (single serving size) was 13 bucks or so.  More than the dry pea cost but having some stuff that does not need cooking is essential at the expense of money and storage life.

In reality though that box is only one week of protein to go with the rice in the house.  Paltry in the grand scheme of things.

Also stocked up on a couple hundred sachet of various bouillon, flavoring mixes.  Got that in the freezer.

One case of pineapple was also acquired, but it is in sachet which means it has to be frozen.  Mice and rats are occasionally an issue in the pantry if I do not have good containers.  Despite the multiple housecats on patrol.

Canned Pork Adobo for your stored rice

https://salu-salo.com/pork-adobo/

Filipino pork adobo (beef and chicken too) is a similar recipe to the Spanish adobo meat preservation process.  Basically meat pickled in vinegar with various spices etc.

Mine is similar to this:

For canning, you can omit the browning and use this recipe as the basis for your brine as the meat will cook in the jar.  I do not use the sugar that this recipe calls for.  Filipinos eat way too much sugar.

I would also add in 1/4 teaspoon per quart of brine of the vitamin C and maybe even a vitamin E tab to maybe help preserve the fat from rancidity.

I also like a bit of carrot and onion in mine.  For a ready to eat meal, this makes a pretty good dish.

It is just a matter of time.

Consider each day to be a reprieve from the inevitable.  Try to get your personal situation the best you can.

We knew it was coming, and now it is here.  It will only get worse.  This is the biggest challenge of your life and everyone has to vote in it.

Getting the jab and promoting the jab is a vote for the destruction of mankind.

Two of the vertical towers did not sprout.

Woke up early and replanted the 2 towers that did not sprout.

Cheated a bit by sprinkling seed, then covering with coconut coir instead of trying to poke all the seeds in the soil.

Working on a plastic extrusion machine rebuild, and got a bunch of laser cut parts coming in to primer paint, as well as ordering more of the usual bearings, pulleys, belts, sprockets, chain etc.

Tomorrow will work on the house and food storage projects.

Life on the tropical island is not all bad, nor all good, the life in exile from the USA

 It is just different.

If  you are the single guy, looking for a fresh start, like I was back in 2004, or even now, your experience will be different than the retired pensioner guy.

Celebrating a bit of a small triumph tonight.  Years of networking, hard work, stress, and idle bullshit.

This week was a small triumph and it is time to enjoy the fruits of the labor.

Now mind you, I enjoyed these things on a much more frequent time while living in the USA, it is still worthwhile to celebrate the small things.  Some of my frequent readers are also mutual friends with T Mark, can emphathisize. (SPELLING?)

February has been a month of hardship on the world stage.  While our personal situation has varied vs. the current world situation re; ww3, Canada etc., It is time to enjoy the good things when they come.

So I present to you:  two T bone steaks of Filipino beef and some imported potato French fries of uncertain origin.

I highly recommend that you do not follow my path in life.  Frankly I was at that point back in time of serious consideration of setting up in Belize or somewhere in Central America vs SE Asia.

As the financial investment commercials said back then "results may vary"

Anyways today or rather this week has been a week of triumph.  While watching things go to shit in Canada-land and USA, I managed to pull a decent steak dinner (or earned hard work??) from the system that we call life.

As customary in my situation, I provided the family with a epic meal and friends with a pleasant drinking session.

Yeah I know that there is a thing that "When the money and beer ends, your friends go away"

Which I have kinda experienced in my youth, being young dumb and full of cum.  But as time marches on, those who stayed on and those who have moved on, well ya get my drift.

Anyways this week was a very good week.  Not the greatest, but is was a damn sure fine week.

So I broke with the Friday tradition and imbibed in something on a Thursday.  Now mind you that the low class here on the tropical island work 6 days a week vs 5 in the West, I have declared it to be a especially good occasion. Despite the shit show that is the world today.

I present to you the Thursday celebration.

A thief who posed as a food delivery rider broke into their house and endangered their lives

 https://philstarlife.com/news-and-views/933662-antipolo-house-robbery?page=3

A lesson from the turd world.  Applies to your own home too.

You can expect that people working in banks and check cashing services will call their accomplices to do a home invasion when you cash a check or make a cash withdrawl.

Hardening your home to prevent these things is essential.  The biggest security risk is your own front door and carelessness.  Every person in the house can let in the bad guys.  You may be paying attention, but are your children?  Do your children even care?

Demons are REAL

Video of the guy who claims to have hacked and messed up Parler, giveSendgo and other sites.

Look at him, demon eyes, the twitching, crazy hair dye, it is all there.

Rice storage in glass jars

Putting away more rice.  Quart glass jars are relatively cheap.  Brand new jars, not recycled.  These can also be used for water bath and pressure cooker canning.

Lids available from the supplier for reusing after water bath canning.

Rice in the jar with oxy absorber.   Back in the box, sealed, labeled and done.  Easy peasy.

I checked a couple jars last week as we sorta ran low on rice not in the jar so I cracked open a couple quarts to use.  It was quite a good vacuum those oxy absorb packs pulled.

Rice went down this week apparently too.  from 48 to 40 per kilo for the Japanese rice.  96 cents USD kilo then  and now the exchange rate has gone worse but the rice went down even more to 71 cents per kilo now.  I guess I best buy the dip.

Running the numbers I got maybe 9 months of food stocked up but it will be terribly monotonous unless I grow stuff.

I really need to put away more of the various seasonings, sauces bouillons etc.  Yet more stuff on the to-do list.

On the vertical garden, one seed pack of lettuce did not sprout and one pack that was on the south side of the house in pots did not sprout as well.

I ordered bout 12 bucks of seed the other day and that arrived yesterday.  Couple thousand bok-choy aka pechay seed, and lettuce seed.  Will replant with the fresh seed.  I guess I really need to keep the garden seed in the deep freeze.

Still looking for a 11liter pressure canner to can my own meats. The glass jar supplier has all sorts of different types.  I message, pay online and it arrives at my door in a few hours. Will try those little 250ml size jars for the meats.  About a 1/2 pint size.  Cured pork, cured beef, and cured chicken on the list.  I am just so tired of so much of the local brands being cut with soy protein shit.

I may even can some tuna.  Although that will require a trip to the ocean to get it from the market on the boat dock.  It doubles in price between the dock and the market here.  Often the local market has fish not kept on ice so it is spoiled.

Yesterday had a little bit of a shock.  Checked my bank and found a payment in there.  Big one.  Apparently a purchase order that was out there for a month came in.  Would have been nice for the client to tell me they sent it so I can match it all up in the books.  Famine averted for another month.

I really do not follow exchange rates much as I use the local currency.  Matter of fact, I have not even touched or owned a USD for 3 years.

Today the boys will be building sea crates (and secretary supervising).

Wife has a hairbrained idea to move her dental clinic into my garage.  I am not exactly thrilled at the idea.  She barely sees any patients now days and I want to keep my garage as my fallback workshop space.  Not to mention that it will be a added expense I rather not have right now.  The cost of that project will equal the cost of a new battery bank.

On the solar situation.  Currently using 1.8kwh daily from shore power.  Due to the sunny days.  If my monthly use is less than 100kwh then the rate goes from 9.7 to 7.8peso per kwh.

At current exchange rate, still looking at less than a 15 dollar bill for the month.  The deep freezer is not on the solar system meter, so that part of consumption is not known until the monthly bill arrives.  Based on last months numbers though it is maybe 5 bucks a month for the freezer.

I really need to get a better battery for this thing.  I suspect that at least one battery is bad as the amount of power stored in the bank is very low.  Will get the boys to assist in working on the system this weekend.  I am planning on adding in a circuit breaker cutoff on the battery instead of the automotive switch that is in place now.  the automotive switch will remain as a backup, but since it gives a giant spark whenever it is connected/disconnected, I rather have a proper breaker in the system to do the connect/disconnect.     Also the shore power needs the additional surge protector installed.  It has been sitting on my counter for a week waiting.

Connecting the dots where the future leads.

Everybody could have imagined certain follow up coming from the government. Violence, for instance. But there are too many cameras on the stage. So they decided to attack the so-called head of The Movement. Because the movement doesn't have a head honestly speaking. And they want to invent a head of the movement in order to make people from the convoy to listen to the new ideas. And the new ideas are: "Ok guys. Let's go home." "No, No-way, That's a trap!" Romeo

Watch this one.  Cell movements, not top down organized is the trucker strike.  The beast is trying to create a leadership of the movement so that they can then have the false leadership tell them to stand down.

Much like the fake pope installed.  We have seen this before.

Now watch this interview from a few weeks ago.

About the 'rocks' and that they are starting to move.  Unstoppable until they are satsified.  Does not matter, there is no leadership and the beast can not fight where there is no head to cut off.  Definition of Rocks in the video context is those unmovable types.  Those who will not do anything unless extremely aroused and will not be satisfied until the end goal and energy is spent.

Vit C food preservative. How to use it.

Vit C is used as a food preservative as well as flavoring

According to this site https://nchfp.uga.edu/how/can_01/ascorbic_acid.html

1/4 teaspoon of the dry powder per quart will do the trick.  If you are doing any sort of acid foods and water bath, with vinegar, the addition of vit c will keep it from browning.  You still need to add your acids, be it vinegar, citric acid etc to change the PH, but this amount of vit C will extend the shelf life a lot.

As a drink mix, you can extend a lemon to make a gallon of lemonaide by puree the inner part of the lemon (or orange) (minus the seed, and the zest with a 1/4 teaspoon of ascorbic acid powder.  Taste and add additional if not sour enough.  You can also use combo of citric and ascorbic acid for the drink to make it go farther and lower the cost, which is what Tang does.

Locally this was 18 bucks online.

A bottle this size lasted 2 years.

For a Gatorade like drink, cold water+sugar+tiny amount of salt+vit C to taste is really good.  Flavor is similar to the Gatorade white color.

We must not get caught up in the minutae

If the current situation was about for example, a dog.

We were debating 10-20 years ago about if a dog was going to arrive.

Now it is 2022 and the dog is here.  But we are still debating about the dog.

Is the dog friendly, or mean?  does the bite?

Never mind that the dog is here now.  Shitting on your door step.

The dog is here and it needs to be sent to the pound and put to sleep.

Debating on the color of the dog, or the nature of the dog, or if it has fleas is rather pointless except for determining the best way to get rid of the damn thing.

Meat prices went down here!

Well  least one thing has given respite.

Got pork shoulder that was diced in big chunks with the skin for $5.46usd per kilo  or $2.48usd per pound.

Got a meat packing plant near the house, and they have a US style butcher shop in front.  They only carry pork, beef and limited cuts, but beats a trip to the supermarket and the long lines.

Vegitable prices slightly lower too.  Mainly cause it is peak vegitable season, but nowhere to the low levels as before.  Certainly not low enough to make it worthwhile to buy and can.

My ordered heay duty 11 liter pressure cooker to can meat... has been cancelled.  No stock by the seller.  The seller called me asking if they could substitute a 5 liter pot for the same price.  I said absolutely no.

Back to the shopping site.

I am noticing a trend online with USA prices consistently 2-4x more than here now.  My fridge was 600bucks, same one at Lowes was 1200.  Water filers here are 4.50 and in the USA 22 bucks.

Someone making a killing on the arbitrage and it sure as hell aint me or you.  Talk to Bezos...

Survival Garden

 https://www.epicgardening.com/survival-garden/

Orderd a re-stock of the garden seed the other day.  2000 bok choy seeds were $3.50usd. 8000 carrot seeds were $10usd

Grow food that you will eat.

Survival gardens only work if you use what you’re growing. If you don’t like something, then don’t grow it. It may qualify as a superfood, but if you can’t bring yourself to eat it, there’s no point in wasting time on it.

How many people do you have to feed? It’s easier when survival gardening for one, but when you have a whole lot of people, you need to take their preferences into consideration as well.

Vertical garden has sprouts! First real rain since December 17

Yeah I know, it is something silly to get excited about.

With Pandemic garden 2.0 constantly over run with bugs eating everything, I needed something to get happy about.

The sevin bug spray seems to have done the trick on the bugs that found their way over in the potting soil.

Will give it a second spray in a few days just to make sure.  With the garden basically elevated 12 feet above the ground and on cement it makes it less likely the crawling things will find their way up to the roof.

Getting our first real rain since December 17.  Things have been really dry here.  It is showing my need to install rain gutters, down spout and some barrels for rainwater collection.  I have been collecting the washing machine water as the wife is using on her ornamental plants for over a year n ow.

Harvested to date somewhere around 60-70 ears of sweet corn.  Another 40 ish remaining.  When the ears are harvested I cut down the stalk to let the remaining plants get more sun and as a warning to the other ears of corn not to f-k with me.
