Word is that Korea has declared force majeure in regards to animal feed supply.

Likely will be seeing a cut off in the near future of Korean supplied foods like noodles', and canned pork.  

Not a huge loss locally as the Korean stuff is only a minor shelf item, but even still governments around the world will restrict food export to take care of their own first.

Ironically this news came at the same day that there was a online flash sale of Korean canned spam.

Ordered 30 cans for a total cost of 54 bucks, which arrived today.

Weather here has turned, we are in the later stages of the north monsoon.  Chinas window to invade Taiwan is closing.

Got the first harvest of salad from the vertical garden.  20ish days.  I am very pleased

Also had another salad from the Malabar spinach.  I was not really fond of it before but that is cause it was a Filipino recipe.  It is much better with my own dressing.

I had completely forgotten about these places.  Living in the US years ago I first learned about these types of places while driving truck.  I hauled a few loads of grocery out of a warehouse to a salvage food place.

The prices are REALLY cheap as the stores buy this by the ton, not by item.

You will find a lot of odd and strange brands, and especially a lot of the gourmet stuff.  

I checked the FB page of the store in Yuma AZ where I used to live and there are now 3 branches of this store.  They have a lot of local produce there too.  A flat of eggs was listed for 2 bucks.  Dates were 2.50 a pound and they were the giant gourmet dates that are normally export to the Middle East cause they are some of the worlds best and cost 30-40 dollars a kilo over there.

Time is running short to stock up, and you will need a good amount of food on hand.

Internet connection here has become unreliable to load google, FB, USGOV sites (Home canning and ag extension)  Gab is rock solid.  Telegram a few minor glitches, lasting a few min observed.  

In the recent past, the internet here has been absolute dogshit.  Dialup speeds and 2001 levels of reliability.  I was unable to even watch youtube at more than 240p until a couple years ago.  I bit the bullet and when fiber internet was available in my area I got it.  Which costs more than my present electric bill for 125mbps speed.  Can stream 4k video now, so these glitches show deeper issues in the matrix so to speak.

Korea announced no more food exports. So there goes the Korean Yongshim instant noodles, and Korean spam.  

I am not exactly a fan of the Korean spam, it is basically USA Aldi canned luncheon meat quality.  However there was a flash sale of it online at 88 pesos per can yesterday.  So I got 30 cans or bout 10 kilos of it, or 22 pounds.  Likely will not be seeing this available in the near future or as the Filipinos say "if ever".  

Korea imports a lot of Ukraine wheat.  No word on if the Koreans are banning Russian products also.

So basically the only thing to do now is to stock up as if WW3 Nuke war coming.  Which the way things trending, is a very likely prospect.  I hope I am wrong.  I want to be wrong about this.

Yesterday, I put the monkeys in the shop on auto-pilot.  Gave them a big list of to-do tasks, and went home at noon.  Stopped by the local fruit and veggie stand and bought out all the tomato again, along with a couple kilos of carrots and onions.  Spent the entire afternoon canning.  Spent roughly 11 bucks on produce, and combined with fresh herbs from the garden, dried mushrooms from the freezer, citric acid, vit c, salt, to produce 21 pints of a very thick sauce.  

Some was left over so that was supper/taste test.  It was very good.

Also put up 4 pints of orange marmalade.  Only a few empty jars left, ordering more as funds allow.   Another case of rice in glass quart jars put up too.  No more shelf room, stacking cases in the office now.  Shelves as budget allows.  10,000 things to get done.

• finishing the wood cook stove/rocket type for the dirty kitchen outside and plumb the dirty kitchen sink.  If it comes to that, already have a outdoor kitchen that has not been used much. 

Ordered a Geiger counter yesterday.  40 bucks online.  Hope it arrives in time.  Printed off some of the manuals.

Seeing the news all day, basically nothing good coming.

Worked all day, got another delivery of canning jars.  60 pieces. Canned and all that for a couple hours in the evening.  I think I need to order several hundred when I get a decent payment come in.    It is peak harvest season right now and food prices have really dropped.  Time to be the ant and store away food, not the Filipino grasshopper, singing the summer away in karaoke. It is easy to get a lot done, if you cut out the happy fun television time.  

Went a bit above the recommended USDA canning guidelines.  Citric acid+ascorbic acid added.  1/4 teaspoon each per pint, and a half table spoon of salt.  Pressure canned for 30 min instead of the recommended 20.  Reason being is that I want that tomato really cooked down in a nice sauce.

My entire supper tonight was from the home pantry.  Chicken curry, and Japanese rice.  New brand of rice we are trying out before deciding if that is what I will pack in more glass jars.  I got screwed last year with that 'Thai Jasmine" rice that was just bland shit.  Not gonna make that same mistake.  I am using that stuff to feed the dog mixed with some soy protein, and table scraps.  

House Modifications updated

 

So, the dental clinic needs to be moved or closed.  More money was not planning on spending, but here it is.

Yesterday was supposed to start on a order but the check had not cleared yet, so no cash for buying materials.  

Wife magically produces a hundred bucks for her moving the dental clinic to the house.  

So we demolished the rotten wood/broken steel rollup door. (door been broke from nearly its install 10 years ago)  Took it to the scrap yard where I got 20 bucks for it.

Proceeded off to the place with the used pallets and packaging material, fully intending on framing out a new wall in used 2x4.  

Well there was no 2x4 in stock, and no more 3/4 or 5/8 inch made in USA or Canada plywood either.  They did have 1/4 inch Masonite sheets for 6 bucks, not even a scratch on them.  So I got a couple sheets of that.

Hardware store wanted 14 bucks for a wood 2x4 or 3 bucks for a steel stud.  So, steel studs it is.  Have never used the stuff so was not exactly sure what I needed to buy.  After demolishing the wall, hopped on YouTube for a refresher course on steel stud construction.  Discovered I needed the steel tracking for the top and bottom.  So sent the boys off to the hardware for 2 of that.  Which of course the hardware had in stock, but no idea the name of it.   

According to the YouTube video, I was supposed to use screws AND construction adhesive. did the anchor bolts and a generous amount of liquid nails top and bottom, then proceeded to put in studs every 18 inches, and then the end closet to the door, had a extra stud, so it got a extra stud in between at 9 inches space.

It was  hot as hell and downing so much water.  Dehydrated and a belly full of water.  Kinda like when in Africa.  Belly plumb full of water and drinking water constantly, but no room for more, while still thirsty and soaked in sweat.  It probably was a black flag kinda heat day.

Nevertheless, framed out mostly.  outside clad in James Hardie cement board, inside cladded in Masonite. All with generous construction adhesive with the self tap sheet metal screws.  

Still need a door, framing, trim, caulk etc.  Also a awning needs built.  My former garage shop will be fully finished out as a clinic and lots of shelves for storing some foods.  

Plans in the works for additional indoor solar lights also. Will send the boy to run some wires in the attic to put a solar floodlight in the hall and more on order.  Basically the idea is to put in these little solar lights everywhere in the house that could use light except the bedrooms.  Secondary backups to the main solar.  

If you can not afford a big system, at least look at installing these solar floodlights. They are basically set and forget.   I would advise to put the light at its lowest setting so as not to always over use the lithium battery and prolong its life.  The batteries inside are replaceable, just need some soldering skills.

The big plans for lithium battery replacement are now on hold.  Prices are sky rocketing to the moon.  Still have not gotten around to testing the current batteries, but I suspect at least one is bad. Immediately at least that can be done, the rest as budget allows with everything else goin on.

Plant pots and plastic wood are on the schedule for today along with modding the injection molder.  The molder is only able to run around 60-70 shots a shift because too much time wasted on fastening and unfastening the clamps.  

With that, off to the shop.  John Wayne the giant cat is guarding the office from his shelf.

Only used shore power one hour over the last day.

 The West can not negotiate in good faith, while the same time the talks going on, attacking the exchange rate.

However, the exchange rate is now showing that is very much obvious manipulated bullshit.  

For example,  if you are in Russia, and last week a heavy duty semi truck cost 1,000,000 Ruble and if one was thinking of USD, then that same truck magically convert to 20,000,000 ruble? No.  At the same time that apple still has the same value in Moscow ad it did the day before.  

The ONLY thing that changed was costs of import some goods in the future.  Other than that it was all bullshit and act of war.

The West can not feign peace pleas and the same time insert themselves in this beef with Ukraine and Russia as a belligerent.

Monday Morning start the week

 Monday morning here on the tropical island.  Woke up at 430am to see that the Nuke option chances have escalated.

Not that senile Biden is capable of making this argument and those around him are also empty of head.

Meanwhile Kamala is giving a speech in Europe to the powers there and opens it with "look guys"   so informal.  When you try to figure out what she is saying it is so empty of substance.

Saw a article this morning, and first paragraph says "anonymous defense sources" and the final paragraph bringing up some unrelated thing about a dead grandmother. Once you know how to discern the propaganda talk, it becomes much easier.

Nevertheless, I will say that the opening hours of the battle were the most honest reports and since day 2, the reports have been total bullshit for the most part.  Unless it is Chuck Holden reporting live on YT as he is doin now, I fail to see the usefulness of consuming a lot of the mainstream media except to dip my toes in it to know where the direction the beast system is heading.  

So after all that.  On to the more imperative things.

Locally COVID is suddenly over and magically all the no jab no service signs are gone.  

The local mall that had that sign up, I will still boycott.  They will not get the several hundred dollars a month I spent there previously.

As part of the prep plans, last weeks canning batch has been taste tested.  It makes no sense to can and find out the recipe tasted like shit.   As a noob in this, a lot of experience and first hand skills need to be developed ASAP.  

I am happy to report that most of the attempts were a success.  The Salsa was maybe a bit too good as we used 2 pints of that already.  This morning breakfast was chilaquilas made with the canned salsa.  

Had a big glass of homemade yogurt.  Made from the made in USA powdered skim milk stash in the freezer.  I just added a small container of yogurt to a quart of the milk.  Let it sit in a warm place for half a day.  I failed to understand the need to preheat the milk and the result was a drinkable yogurt, not the thick type.  Apparently the need to preheat the milk up to 180 degrees is not sterilization, rather it scrambles the milk protein, much like cooking a egg.  Which makes it thick.  

Today in the shop, just the usual, plastic molding, machine builds etc. Some gardening, replant the corn patch.

Numbers do not include the freezer, but likely the bill will be somewhere around 12-13 dollars.  Less than January.  

I really need to get into the system and test the batteries,  I am seeing the system the last few weeks unable to handle the larger current draws.  One battery during install had a rather low health rating so that may now be a bigger issue.  Zero budget to replace with lithium.  Prices skyrocketing for lithium.  

If anything just swap out for 4 brand new lead acid batteries, and use the old batteries in a 12v system in the shop or as a backup.  I have a spare charge controller and inverter in the house for a unforeseen event like this.
