Gonzales and McCain, Both Political Hacks on Life Support
John McCain has gone from straight talking political maverick to doddering old senile whackjob.
McCain had his Fonzie moment (i.e. jumped the shark) when he walked casually around a Baghdad market and declared the country was safe for tourism, “Aaaaayyyy!” (while being surrounded by a cadre of armed military protectors). His backpeddling and clarification have served to make him look more out of touch or pre-senile and his campaign is now being touted as dead in the water. You can’t blatantly lie to people and get away with it anymore John, that is so Bush 2004.
Gonzales keeps on cramming for his testimony before Congress praying like an unprepared freshman that he will somehow be able to bullshit his way through the essay portion and pull a C out of his ass. His staff is so concerned about his inability to keep their lies straight that they have pulled him from any interviews prior to his testimony.
I know I said he would be gone by now but the excrutiatingly slow process is revealing more criminal wrongdoing by President Bush and his closest aides. Like this.

Soldiers are still dying in Iraq, Mainstream Media
As of today, 3163 U.S. military members have been killed in Iraq. Meanwhile, the mainstream media fills the majority of it’s banal 24 hour coverage on stories about a dead playmate and a the vile utterances of a soulless right wing harpy.
There is a false right wing talking point that more military members died while Clinton was in office than have died in Iraq that has been gleefully thrown out to me by 3 different conservative friends. I wonder if these guys all listen to Rush or is there a group e-mail that goes out?
The problem with this latest talking point, and portions of it, like all good myths, are true, is that it is a deceptive piece of cherry picked statistical hogwash.
Somewhere around 4000 U.S. troops died in a 4 year period when Clinton was president. That figure included all causes of death for the nearly 1.7 million enlisted service members such as accidental death, suicides, illness and disease. The rate of deaths was almost identical to non-military mortality rates. They compare this all encompassing number to the very specific combat casualties only in Iraq.
By adding into the combat deaths the numbers of troops that have died from natural causes, disease, accidents and suicides, the number would be more than double the 3000+. I am guessing here because the DOD has not released figures on these deaths since 2004. They don’t want the public to know the rates of death, especially the tragic figure of a reportedly exploding jump in suicides among active duty servicemen.
The other thing the right wingers leave out is that there have been over 32,500 casualties in this war. Many of the wounded have been permanently and irrevocably damaged and are being given less than stellar care upon their return as evidenced by the major problems at Walter Reed hospital.
Add the numbers of wounded and dead military members serving under Bush and 10 times as many have paid a personal price for this unneccessary war.
The worst part of this tactic is the minimization of the deaths of the troops by using dishonest relativism to make their sacrifice seem trivial.
That is reprehensible.
UPDATE: Doing research for this article I found the creator of this deceptive little talking point. Read about the origins of this lie, here.
The original propoganda piece appeared in the proudly right of center and neoconservative New York Sun.
