The Seventh Month

This month has brought quite a few changes to our little home. Two of the biggest changes are: Hannalyn sleeping in her own room and Hannalyn being somewhat mobile. At the beginning of the month, we moved Hannalyn into her crib. The first couple nights she woke up once in the night, but went right back to sleep after being resettled and now she is back to sleeping through the night. She is a champ. I'm curious if she can crawl better than she realizes because I start her on the 'bottom' of her crib and she wakes up at the 'top' of her crib. Hmmm. Fun stuff, right? Also, she rolls all over the place. She does an amazing job. It is so much fun to see. For example, in the photo below, I'd been teaching a lesson and sitting on the piano bench. She was under her toy (left in the photo) and when I turned to check on her, she was right behind the bench. At first I thought I'd lost her until I looked down. Love it!

Hannalyn has been a champ and so patient with her parents being involved in Les Mis. We are at the Western Park five nights a week and she has gotten so good at sleeping in the pack-n-play during the show. I love that she is such a good baby and will go with us and behave.

This year, Hannalyn watched part of the world cup (Brazil vs whoever they were playing) with her uncle Taylor. She is wearing a Brazil flag and got to fly around the house with the flag acting as her cape. She loved it. I have been informed that she also loves to watch Pokemon movies online. I guess now I know what she & her uncle do when they hang out.

This month brought about the introduction of real people food to our little girl. We are doing a mix of "traditional" weaning and "baby-led" weaning. I think that I am too controlling to do only baby-led weaning. I worry about her not getting enough, if any, blah blah blah. Which I know that I shouldn't worry about, but there you are. So I give Hannalyn a little bit of food from off my plate, but I've also blended up some foods for her and spoon-fed. She enjoys both, so I don't feel bad about doing a mix-approach. Hannalyn is a great eater. She especially loves peas, sweet potatoes, & squash. We haven't done fruits really - she has sucked on a piece of peach, but I don't think she actually ingested it. Hannalyn really loves to sit in the high chair and be with the rest of us during meals. She gets the biggest grin on her face and looks so proud of herself. It's great.

The above picture shows how we spend most mornings - sleeping in until ridiculous hours after being up so late with the show every night. But hey, it's fun stuff.

Hannalyn is sitting! She is very very sturdy and can push herself in a little circle so she can face all different directions. She tries so so so hard to crawl, but isn't there yet. Mostly she scoots backward or sideways. She either gets up on her hands or on her knees, but never both together. She can stand with some assistance - meaning hanging on with both hands - for about 20 seconds. Her legs & arms have gotten stronger by leaps and bounds over the last couple of weeks. I have been so impressed with her and what she can do.

At her six month check-up, Hannalyn weighed in at 14 pounds 10 ounces (she was 15 pounds when I weighed her on our scale at home yesterday) and she is 26 and 3/4 inches long. The pediatrician has been so impressed with her - especially concerning the scare she gave us back at the beginning. He says that if he didn't know her, and even knowing her, he would never suspect that she had surgery. Hannalyn is growing right on track and doing all the things that she is supposed to and the pediatrician never has anything but good things to say about her. It makes my mommy heart feel so good.

Hannalyn is full of giggles and smiles and words. She talks to anyone and everyone. She has realized that she can get my attention when I'm walking away by shouting at me. Hannalyn loves being tickled and played with. She frequently blows raspberries and sings along with the students that I teach at home. She plays the piano, claps everything together except her own hands (food, toys, etc), and has started to wave!!! It's wonderful.

I am so grateful to be a mom to this fantastic girl. She has been the most amazing blessing in our lives.

Happy 7 months to our sweet sweet girl. Mommy & Daddy love you SO much.

teenager

This was my baby sister two and a half years ago. She was shorter than me, very blonde, very innocent, very cute, and all-around awesome. Today she turns 13 and she is taller than me, though still very blonde, innocent, cute, and all-around awesome. *sigh* Sometimes life passes much too quickly. I still remember when she was a tiny baby, and now she is teenager & I have my own tiny baby. Wow.

Dear sweet baby sister, if you read this, I hope you know how much I love you and how amazing I think you are. You are strong, beautiful, helpful, a wonderful sister, friend, & aunt. Be brave & bold & remember that you can do anything that you want to. You are amazing.

growing pains

Growing isn't easy. It takes a lot of work. It takes a lot of time and a lot of energy. Sometimes there are growth-spurts and you grow a lot really fast. More often than not, however, growing is a slow everyday process that happens when you're not even looking. When I was a pre-teen, I would get "growing pains" in my knees every now and then throughout the summer that I grew an inch. My littlest sister has complained of achy knees and she is sprouting up like a weed. Hannalyn is growing a lot right now, too, though I don't think it's bugging her. Thank goodness.

But you know, not all growth is physical. There is also emotional, spiritual, and mental growth. Sometimes those types of growth are more painful than physical growth. Most of the time I don't notice physical growth until I realize Oh wow! Now I can do/reach/whatever thing that I couldn't do before. Growing in other areas of my life, however, tends to be much more noticeable. And a lot more painful.

I try to not get too caught up in the stress and pain of growing. I try to be upbeat and positive and faithful. I feel like I do a really good most of the time. I know that growing is part of life and that, in the end, I will be stronger and better for it. I know that growing is how I get to live with my Heavenly Father again with my eternal family - which I want more than anything. We have been doing some growing. I in particular have been doing some intense emotional, spiritual, and mental growing lately. At least, I've been trying. Sometimes I feel so stuck & stagnant. I wonder if I've been growing like I'm supposed to or if I've just been trying to stumble blindly through trials. I am trying to be better - trying to appreciate what I'm learning and be patient as we make our way through the phase of life we have found ourselves in. It's not easy and it has been a long long long series of unexpected events. Thank goodness for prayer & the knowledge and peace we have received from God that we really are where we are supposed to be.

Here's to growing, learning, changing & being a little better tomorrow than we were today.

Book Review: A Timeless Romance Anthology (Old West Collection)

I love the Timeless Romance Anthologies. They are such wonderful collections to read. The Old West Collection is particularly charming with stories of soldiers, cowboys, schoolmarms, and of course - love. And who doesn't love a good romance story every now and then? With this book there are SIX. It's wonderful. Part of the thing I love is that each story is short enough that I can read it quickly but long enough to really enjoy and get into each new adventure. Read it! Read it! :)

Here are little snippets about each:

In Break a Leg, a charming story by two-time Rita Award winner Carla Kelly, a hospital steward & a maid of color love each other secretly. It takes an old actor with a broken leg to bring them together.

The Soldier’s Heart, is an enchanting novella by Sarah M. Eden, in which a soldier finds his best friend's family and works for them under false pretenses. Will he tell the woman he is coming to love, his best friend's sister, the truth?

Hidden Spring is a fantastic tale by Liz Adair. A heartbroken widow meets her deceased husband's brother and he helps her get her home, and her heart, back in order.

The Silver Mine Bachelor, by Heather B. Moore is wonderful. Lydia has list of ten men she wants to get to know. Number ten on her list is her new boss, and he is willing to help her meet the other men... until tragedy brings them together.

In Annette Lyon’s delightful story, The Sweetest Taste, Della would do anything to get out of her small home town, but does the big city really hold everything that her heart desires?

Faith and the Foreman by Marsha Ward is a fun adventure in which schoolmarm and cowboy surprise each other by falling in love.

Opening Night

Phew. Opening night came & went. Overall, it seems to have gone well. Daniel sounded great, for sure, so at least his portion of the show was great. ;) Ha. This is his convict look before he becomes the well-to-do mayor. Pretty awesome, right?

All three of my sisters and my mom are in the show, too. It's been a blast.

Not a night goes by when people don't tell me what an amazing baby Hannalyn is. And it's TRUE. She is so patient with us spending several hours in the evening at the Western Park. She is very well-behaved & friendly. She has been a huge blessing to us as we've participated in this adventure.

10 nights left!!!

Yup. That's right. It's finally here. See that cute baby in a mop cap? She wants you to come see her handsome daddy be the amazing Jean ValJean. He will blow your mind. He is truly incredible & inspiring and I am so so so proud of him and all the hard work he has done.

Show performances are all this week, June 23 through June 28, and all next week, June 30 through July 5 EXCEPT July 4. Show starts at 8 pm. You can get tickets HERE. We have a very comfy couch or very comfy air mattresses for your usage if you are interested. Just let us know at least 24 hours before you arrive so that I can manage to energize myself & clean up the house a little bit. ;)

Love you all! Happy Monday!

reread

Have you read Agatha Christie's Man in the Brown Suit? Because, I've read it probably every summer since I was 15 (aka at least 10 times) and I still love it every. single. time. I reread books frequently because I feel like there is a lot to be learned or maybe I missed something or this time I'll catch the murderer before the end. You know. I also love reading new books, but since I'm poor and can't buy any and won't be getting any until Christmas. Well. Rereads of my favorite get me through the summer.

Do you reread books?

Also. Les Mis starts next week. Monday June 23rd through Saturday July 5th. Come see it. Hubby is amazing. :)

Happy weekend!!!
