The first place we went was to a place called White Pocket. When we finally got there we enjoyed exploring and taking lots of pictures. There were so many different formations and colors! This place is seldom visited and we found out why! If you love long DEEP sand roads then this is the place for you.
The next place we went was to a place called The Wave. A permit is required to hike in this area. Only 20 people are allowed in each day. There are two difficult ways to get a permit. The first is through on online lottery system where 10 people are given a permit for a specific day. On average 350 people try for the online lottery for each day so they are very difficult to get. The other 10 permits are given through a walk in system. You have to go to the nearest ranger station at a specific time the morning prior to when you want to hike in. Each group fills out a permit sheet. The rangers then give each group a number and put it into their lottery drawing. The morning we put in for the drawing there were 76 people there trying to get one of the 10 permits! Some of those people had already been trying to get permits for a few days. We were sure we would not get drawn and then to our surprise our number was called and we were given a permit for the next day! We enjoyed our hike to The Wave and had fun taking lots of photos.
