Aurubis and Viscaria marked a milestone at the Swedish Embassy today as we signed memorandum of understanding for a long-term copper offtake — securing around 50 % of Viscaria’s projected output. 🇸🇪  With the Viscaria project in Kiruna, northern Sweden, the partners are looking to strengthen regional supply chains — backed by short transport routes and a shared focus on responsible production standards. 🗨️ Tim Kurth, Aurubis COO Custom Smelting & Products: “Today we confirmed that Aurubis and Viscaria share the same values — building a partnership from 2027 onwards with a clear focus on sustainability. Strong performance in challenging times: In fiscal year 2024/25, Aurubis achieved operating EBT of €355 million — right in the forecast corridor. Net cash flow rose by almost 30 % to €677 million, marking a three-year high. 📈 Operating EBITDA stood at €589 million, nearly matching the prior year. The dividend proposal is €1.60 per share — an uplift from €1.50. 🔄 Over 75 % of the €1.7 billion strategic investment program has already been implemented. One of the biggest threats for German industry are energy prices. Especially for energy intensive and globally active companies. At ZEIT für Klima (ZEIT für X | Sponsored Content von Studio ZX) and the Energy Talks at the Reichstag (Clean Energy Forum) hosted by American Chamber of Commerce in Germany e.V. (AmCham Germany) and energate, Ulf Gehrckens, Executive Vice President Corporate Energy & Climate Affairs at Aurubis, outlined Aurubis’ position: ⚖️ Renewable energy costs always need to be calculated with costs of additional network costs. Even if renewable energy is effective at generation, system costs challenge competitiveness for heavy industries enormously. 🔄 Ongoing discussions around base-load regulation increase make the situation even more complex, pressuring on energy-intensive companies and highlighting the need for a modified system model. France just renewed their system on base-load regulations and thus strongly supports their energy intensive industry. ⚡One thing is clear: The current support for energy-intensive industries with high grid fees and almost constant consumption 24/7 ensures cost-efficient grid usage at a consistently high level. Those also have a system-stabilizing effect due to their constant electricity consumption. It therefore remains permissible under EU law. This support not only needs to be maintained but opened to system-friendly flexibility in order to maintain electricity-intensive industry Europe. Local copper production in Germany ensures resilience, minimizes environmental footprint, and reduces dependency on foreign supply chains. Europe urgently needs regulatory conditions that balance competitiveness, energy security, and long-term strategic value. Aurubis demonstrates that sustainability and competitiveness reinforce each other. Now, it is crucial that the enabling conditions and the right policy frameworks follow.
