Sometimes the best place for a founder isn't behind a desk, but in front of an optical setup, spending the entire day measuring, questioning, and learning.
A huge thank you to Dominik S. and Christian Scholz at LTB Lasertechnik Berlin GmbH for opening their facility to us and making one of their DEMON 2 Double Echelle ultra-high-resolution spectrometers available for testing our latest optical concepts.
Our current KISA sensors already achieve around 1 pm (≈1 GHz) wavelength resolution. But one customer challenge pushed us far beyond the capabilities of our own measurement infrastructure.
That was the moment we knew it was time to ask for help.
The question was ambitious:
Can we improve by another three orders of magnitude while preserving everything that makes KISA... KISA?
Compact. Low power. Low cost. Environmentally stable.
We often say that measuring lasers should become simpler.
Ironically, making it simpler requires understanding them at an entirely new level first.
As engineers, we're trained to solve problems ourselves.
But sometimes the smartest engineering decision is knowing when someone else has exactly the tool you need.
Luckily, our friends at LTB said yes.
Last Thursday wasn't just another measurement day.
It reminded us why we enjoy working in photonics so much.
People share ideas.
People share equipment.
People genuinely want each other to succeed.
One lesson worth remembering:
Build your network before you need it. Be kind. Help others. And never be afraid to ask.
The photonics community continues to amaze us with its openness, expertise, and collaborative spirit, and we are incredibly grateful to be part of it.
Our latest concept is still just that—a concept. But thanks to days like last Thursday, it's one step closer to becoming a product.
