🚀 Production launch: Our new thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) site in Zhuhai, South China is now operational. This first phase will produce 30,000 tons annually, serving growing demand across IT, automotive, and footwear industries. Upon completion of all three phases in the 2030s, this facility will become Covestro's largest TPU production site globally. The strategic location creates powerful synergies with our R&D center in Changhua and application development center in Guangzhou. In addition, the site produces TPU with the "CQ" label, indicating at least 25% allocated alternative, non-fossil raw materials - supporting customers in reducing their carbon footprint. This milestone enables us to deliver more sustainable attributed caustic soda via the mass balance approach to the Iberian market, supporting our customers in reducing their carbon footprint across a wide range of applications, while strengthening the stability of our European supply network. Combined with our world-scale oxygen depolarized cathode (ODC) technology, which already saves up to 25% electricity compared to conventional chlorine production, ISCC PLUS certification allows us to advance circularity through the mass balance approach without compromising on quality or reliability. Yesterday, we broke ground on a major milestone for industrial decarbonization. At our site in Brunsbüttel, we officially launched the construction of an innovative heat battery that will store surplus renewable electricity and convert it into high-temperature steam for our production processes. ⚡ The heat battery is expected to cover up to 10% of the site's steam demand and reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 13,000 tons per year – marking an important step forward for energy efficiency in the chemical industry. Around 50 dedicated students from RWTH Aachen and FH Aachen are pushing boundaries with their solar-powered race car - traveling hundreds of kilometers using only the power of the sun. Their lightweight yet robust design showcases how innovative materials can transform sustainable transportation. The team regularly competes in international competitions, including the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge - the world's toughest solar race. Their latest creation, the Covestro Æthon, embodies out-of-the-box thinking and demonstrates the incredible potential of sustainable materials in action.
