What's driving global trade? According to the latest DHL Globalization Tracker, global trade growth accelerated despite tariff turbulence and geopolitical conflicts. The outlook for global trade is now even stronger. One major reason: artificial intelligence. Strong demand for AI-enabling goods such as semiconductors and data-transmission equipment has become a powerful driver of global trade. In 2025, these goods accounted for 42% of global goods trade growth. Here are a few more findings from the latest DHL Globalization Tracker, developed in partnership with the NYU Stern School of Business: 🌍 Globalization reached a record level of 25.8% on a scale from 0% (no cross-border flows) to 100% (borders and distance have no impact). 📈 In the first half of 2026, global goods trade grew faster than in any half-year in the past 15 years, excluding the exceptional pandemic rebound. ➡️ Global goods trade is projected to expand by an average of 3.4% per year through 2029, substantially faster than the previous decade.
