"I've always wanted to experience living in a nordic country." Dawid Koper, Business Intelligence Consultant at Lidl Suomi, has been part of #teamlidl for almost 4 years. Working in the Self Service Business Intelligence team at Lidl Polska in Warsaw, he collaborated closely with Lidl International on various projects. Since October, Dawid has been based in Finland through the Lidl International Job Rotation Program. 🇫🇮 "Our team in Poland develops projects that originate from Lidl International. Moving to Finland gave me the opportunity to see how these developments actually work on the ground. Understanding whether they suit local needs or need adjustments is incredibly valuable for my future work back home." Moving to Finland felt like coming home. "I visited as a tourist three years ago and loved the city. Walking through the streets on my first day felt familiar, yet completely new." What made the move special? The warm welcome. "Everyone was incredibly friendly from day one. That kindness made my transition so much easier." Dawid has fully embraced the Finnish winter. "I tried cross-country skiing and even ice swimming in the frozen sea. This year, the sea froze so solid that you could walk 20 minutes to reach another island. Running together, celebrating together – the 24th Trollinger Marathon This past weekend, 1048 colleagues from the companies of the Schwarz Gruppe laced up their running shoes for the 24th Trollinger Marathon in Heilbronn. From the 5K to the full marathon, teams from Lidl International, Lidl in Germany, Kaufland, PreZero International and Schwarz Digits took on the challenge and crossed the finish line together. 🏃♀️🏃♂️ Our colleague Raphael Masanetz explains: "It's about the people, not the pace. I’m grateful for the shared energy, support, and team spirit that made the Trollinger such a memorable experience." For many, the race was about more than personal bests. It was about the energy of running alongside colleagues from across the teams and the sense of belonging that comes from being part of something bigger. Making it easy for colleagues to stay active together, Lidl covered participation fees and provided team shirts. "Legs empty, head full of focus and the track a single tremor. 21.1 km of goosebumps, because a thousand hands are clapping you forward," says Laura Morlock as part of #teamlidl. Johannes Vogler adds: "Performance is the goal, the team is the engine. I’m thankful for the organisation, the amazing atmosphere along the track and the cooperate athletes team." The Trollinger Marathon has become a tradition where we celebrate health, teamwork, and performance. What's it like for a young superfan to spend the day filming his dream with his real-life heroes? He'll be happy to tell you himself. 🎥👦🏼 At the center of the "Hungry for moments" TV spot is a young fan, Huckleberry, waiting for the chance to see his heroes from Lidl-Trek. His excitement is palpable and real. Because for many young people, these riders are more than athletes – they're true role models. 🚴♂️🚴♀️ So we chose to tell the story from his perspective. From the anticipation before the ride to the moment he finally meets the team, sprinting together across his own hand-drawn finish line. But what comes across effortlessly on screen is the result of true teamwork behind the scenes. Over three and a half days, around 130 people worked together on set, from production and technical crews to mechanics and support staff. Working with a young lead and professional athletes also meant one clear priority: their well-being. Every detail was carefully managed to ensure they could stay focused on what they do best. In fact, even the smallest details were taken into account by our dedicated team – right down to choosing the perfect banana for a scene. 🍌 And then there are the moments you can't plan. The natural connection between the riders and Huckleberry was the real deal. You can truly feel that spark in every frame of the final film, and was just as much fun to watch over the course of the shoot. Fairness That Is More to Value: 20 Years of Fairtrade at Lidl 🌍 When you buy Fairtrade coffee, chocolate or bananas at Lidl, you are making a choice. One that goes far beyond your shopping cart. It reaches the people behind the products: Cocoa cooperatives in Ghana are investing in school projects and community development. In Honduras, coffee producers are growing climate-resistant varieties and using solar dryers to process the harvest. Successes like these are the reason why we have been working with our partner Fairtrade International to promote fairer trade for the past 20 years: Together, we secure minimum prices, pay additional premiums to support community projects and continue to develop standards. "What began with six conversions to Fairtrade-certified products in 2006 now has an impact on the entire industry. The collaboration with Lidl has taken fair trade out of its niche and made it a part of everyday consumption – with tangible improvements for producers worldwide. We thank Lidl for 20 years of trusting and pioneering collaboration," says Claudia Brueck, Chief of Communications & Politics at Fairtrade Deutschland. An anniversary that shows fairness is more to value: for the people in the producing countries and for our customers. At the beginning of our partnership, introducing Fairtrade products to our range made us a pioneer in the discount sector. Today, we are one of the largest Fairtrade partners worldwide. In the last 15 years alone, we have generated 171 million euros in premiums together with our customers, which have a direct impact on the ground. "Football is a universal language, and it's a great way to integrate into a new environment" James Yardley, Consultant Talent Acquisition Process & Systems and Jamie Greenwood, Consultant Learning & Development are both from Lidl GB and currently based in Germany through the International Job Rotation Program. Jamie has been with #teamlidl for almost 11 years. He now develops training solutions for stores and warehouses worldwide. "Moving here allowed me to see the bigger picture of our global strategy as it is the beating heart of operations at Lidl." James brings 4 years of recruitment experience and has shifted his focus toward strategic reporting and global talent management. "I wanted to understand how Lidl governs over 30 different countries. The program also allowed me to tick off a major life goal: living and working abroad." Their strongest connection to Germany didn't happen in the office, but on the pitch: With two training sessions and weekly games, they are members of the local football club TSV Erlenbach. "The first session was intimidating, with the language barrier making it difficult to follow the details of the drills. Thankfully everyone was very welcoming and patient with us." ⚽ Week by week, football became their bridge to German culture. "After a long day of work, your brain is often too full for revision, but on the pitch, you start speaking and understanding without even realizing it," Jamie shares. "We're definitely still learning those German football terms," James adds "'Tempo rein!' is something we also hear every game to motivate us to give everything on the pitch!" Playing together strengthened both their German and their friendship. "When you are out of your comfort zone together, you form bonds much quicker." ❤️💙💛 Their advice for hesitant expats? "Embrace the challenge. It's been amazing to see how sport can bring people together regardless of cultural background." "Bringing broad experience to a new market helps me see things differently." Jan Nicolaus, Head of Sales at Lidl Polska, has been part of #teamlidl for nearly 10 years. Starting as an Area Manager at Lidl in Deutschland near Hamburg, he built his career across multiple departments before taking on a new challenge in Poland through the Lidl International Job Rotation Program. Since October, Jan has been based in Wrocław. 🇵🇱 "One of my key insights is that our processes are nearly identical across countries. But the different culture and language create a completely new challenge. I consciously stepped out of my comfort zone, and it's been worth it." Currently in a comprehensive onboarding phase, Jan is traveling across the region. "We're giving this process the attention it deserves. I'm learning how people work here before I officially step into my role." What stands out most for Jan? "The warmth and respect across all hierarchy levels. People here combine high performance with genuine kindness. "When you change your environment, you don't just learn about a new culture. You learn new things about yourself." Cezary Kamiński, Consultant Buying Department Food Promotion at Lidl Österreich, joined #teamlidl in 2020 as an intern at Lidl Polska. Over time, he built his career in Sales, specializing in Fresh categories and product placement. Since October, he's been based in Salzburg, Austria, as part of the Lidl International Job Rotation Program. The transition from executing promotions in stores to planning Theme Weeks was eye opening for him. "Now I understand the whole strategic process and how it all connects to serve the customer." As his first international move, he felt nervous, but Austria's welcoming culture made all the difference. "People are so open-minded and warm. Even when they hear I'm not a native speaker, they're encouraging and kind." ❤️💙💛 Together with his fiancée and dog, Cezary spends weekends hiking in the Alps, embracing the Austrian lifestyle. Inspired by how active everyone is, he's also taken up activities like running or snowboarding. 🏔️ Would he do it again? "In a heartbeat. This experience has shown me that stepping into the unknown is much easier when you have the right community behind you."
