What happens when master students step into the role of an inhouse consultant? Last Friday, we welcomed 25 talented master students from ESB Business School, Reutlingen University to our office to give them a behind-the-scenes look at inhouse consulting at Mercedes-Benz Management Consulting. In an interactive case workshop, the students worked on a real strategic challenge: how to attract and retain younger target groups. Stepping into the role of consultants, they approached the topic from different client perspectives – from Product Steering and R&D to Strategy as well as Marketing & Sales. What stood out immediately: how quickly the teams immersed themselves in these roles. With curiosity and structure, they developed thoughtful concepts and creative ideas, which they later pitched to our jury. This is exactly what makes our work at MBMC so exciting – the variety of perspectives, the exposure to different stakeholders and the opportunity to work on impactful projects across the entire Mercedes-Benz value chain. Meet Avraam – officially Senior Data Consultant at MBMC, unofficially our “Doctor of AI.” 😎 Avraam studied at ETH Zurich, where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physics. Driven by a fascination for complex systems, he took his expertise a step further by completing a PhD in AI, focusing on the architecture and scaling of massive AI models. Today, Avraam brings this tech expertise to Mercedes-Benz Management Consulting, bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI research and real business impact. Focusing on Generative AI, he works on some of the most exciting transformation topics at Mercedes-Benz, helping architect AI solutions that reshape the automotive industry. Moving from academic research to strategy consulting was a deliberate choice to expand his skill set. At MBMC, Avraam translates deep technical complexities into scalable strategies, guiding executive decision-making and collaborating closely with top management. 💬 “The transition from research to consulting is a completely different ballgame. 1 challenge. 25 students. 3 hours. 5 pitches to our CEO. Last friday, we hosted a unique case workshop at the Universität St.Gallen (HSG) together with CEMS - The Global Alliance in Management Education. 25 CEMS students stepped into the role of top executives and worked on real‑world challenges – culminating in an executive pitch to our CEO, Ola Källenius. In just three hours, the teams: 💡 built a clear understanding of the current situation at Mercedes‑Benz, 🔎 developed, clustered and prioritized hypotheses backed by analysis, and 🗣️ selected the two strongest ideas to present in a concise and convincing executive pitch. The goal was ambitious: deliver fresh, relevant impulses to our CEO. The students rose to the challenge with impressive focus, structure and commitment. For us, this workshop reflects how we work every day at MBMC – collaborating at eye level, learning fast and taking responsibility early. It was not only a valuable experience for the participants, but also for our team – many of whom are alumni of CEMS and the University of St. Gallen – to return to campus and engage with a new generation of talent.
