What hidden costs are you willing to take on in your business? Exactly – none! Yet European businesses are forced to absorb unregulated and untransparent #fees every time a commercial debit or credit card is used at a point of sale. That’s why we are taking action. Together with German companies and associations representing more than €2,000 billion in global turnover we’ve called on the German government to push for decisive action at EU level. The European Commission must close this regulatory loophole and actively enforce fair competition to protect businesses and consumers. 1. The problem: Current European regulation has significant gaps in this area: whilst the Interchange Fee Regulation (IFR) 2015/751 has effectively capped interchange fees for consumer cards at 0.2–0.3%, business debit and credit cards – which generate almost 30% of total interchange revenue in the EU – remain unregulated. 2. The result: high payment costs weaken the competitiveness of European businesses, shift value creation unnecessarily abroad and in the end lead to higher prices for consumers. 3. In early March, Makro España opened its new Food Service Distribution (#FSD) depot in Galdakao (Bizkaia), its first platform in northern Spain that aims to enhance more efficient foodservice for hospitality customers across the Basque Country, Asturias, Cantabria, and Navarre. Let figures speak for itself: the new multi-temperature logistics facility operating 18 loading bays over a space of 13,000 m2, enables a daily processing capacity of 2,000 orders out of up to 40,000 SKUs. It offers a storage space of over 7,500 pallets for dry food, chilled, frozen, and fresh fruit and vegetables, including 3,400 carefully selected product lines to address the most in-demand items for the hospitality businesses. METRO France had been proudly designated as the official ingredients supplier for 20 candidates for both Platter and Plate themes. The Platter theme paid tribute to the Mediterranean and particularly Marseille’s culinary heritage, featuring red gurnard as the centerpiece of the platter, exclusively provided by METRO France. Team Denmark, Norway and Italy have finished in the top 3 respectively. They are among the 10 best teams qualified for the Grand Finale in Lyon next January 👏 METRO France, Makro España, Classic Fine Foods UK Ltd | B Corp™, METRO Magyarország, makro ČR and METRO Romania accompanied and supported their national teams in their national selections all the way to Marseille. At todays Annual General Meeting 2026, the earnings for the last financial year (FY) 2024/25 were presented. We continued our consistent #transformation into a multichannel wholesaler, achieving currency- and portfolio-adjusted sales growth of 6%. This reached the upper end of the communicated sales outlook range, with adjusted EBITDA slightly exceeding expectations. Following four consecutive years of inflation-adjusted #growth, we are well positioned to continue pursuing the ambitions of our #sCore growth strategy. What is ahead? We are focusing on further expanding the multichannel model, continuing to implement efficiency programmes and strengthening our financial base. In line with the dividend policy, the Management Board and Supervisory Board recommend that no dividend be distributed for the past financial year.
