Proof that the right narrative can make even the most complex subject compelling. Energy storage systems are often invisible. But their impact is not. Instead of leading with technology, the film takes a human perspective. It connects what we don’t see with what we all rely on every day and brings home how today’s security of supply and tomorrow’s energy future are inextricably linked. Key figures at a glance: - Adjusted EBITDA: €407 million (Q1 2025: -€139 million) - Adjusted Net Income: €231 million (Q1 2025: -€143 million) - Full-year outlook confirmed Our operational results fully matched our expectations and are significantly ahead of the same period last year. The ongoing situation in the Middle East has had only a very limited impact on our business – a clear sign that our de-risking measures are delivering results. A structural shift in the energy system is clear: from scarcity-driven markets to volatility-driven dynamics. Markets today are less driven by immediate physical shortages and more by risk premia, system stress, and flexibility constraints. This was a key theme at the Aurora Spring Forum 2026 in London, discussed on a panel with Andreas Schierenbeck (CEO, Hitachi Energy) and Jenny Bates (Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford). Our discussion on geopolitics and its implications for Net Zero highlighted two important takeaways: ➡️ Europe has learned from the 2022 crisis. Supply has diversified, LNG import capacity has expanded, and overall system resilience has improved. Renewables now account for close to half of EU power generation. ➡️ Credibility now comes from delivery, not declarations. Europe can maintain its net-zero ambition, but only through pragmatic, technology-neutral system-level execution: ensuring firm low-carbon flexibility (H₂-ready assets, CCUS, storage) alongside scaled renewables and grid expansion, supported by appropriate market frameworks such as capacity mechanisms. The broader takeaway remains: energy security, system flexibility, and investment in dispatchable capacity are not optional – they are fundamental to making the transition work. The next phase of the transition will be defined by how well we align flexibility with affordability, not as a trade-off but as a prerequisite for a resilient system. Es gibt Momente, die zeigen, wie viel Energie in Düsseldorf steckt. Tausende Läufer:innen auf der Strecke zu sehen – darunter viele Kolleginnen und Kollegen von Uniper – war etwas ganz Besonderes. Die vielen strahlenden Gesichter haben gezeigt, welche Bedeutung dieses Sportevent für unsere Stadt hat. Als Unternehmen sind wir eng mit Düsseldorf verbunden – umso mehr freut es mich, den Marathon als Sponsor zu unterstützen. Der Marathon ist für uns alle eine Bereicherung, denn er steht für Bewegung, Zusammenhalt und Leistungsbereitschaft. Besonders beeindruckt hat mich der Spirit in den vielen Staffeln. Kollegen/Kolleginnen oder Freunde/Freundinnen, manchmal alles zugleich, haben wochenlang zusammen trainiert und hatten ein gemeinsames Ziel. Immer stand das Miteinander im Vordergrund, die gegenseitige Motivation. Ihr könnt alle sehr stolz auf Euch sein! Pünktlich um 9:45h den Uniper Düsseldorf Marathon gemeinsam mit Bürgermeister Josef Hinkel eröffnen zu dürfen war für mich eine besondere Ehre. Noch mehr Emotionen gab es nur noch bei den Siegerehrungen, als ich den jeweils schnellsten drei Läuferinnen und Läufern gratulieren durfte und wir sie alle gemeinsam für ihre herausragende Leistung gefeiert haben. Danke an jede Läuferin und jeden Läufer, die auf der Strecke alles gegeben haben und über sich hinausgewachsen sind! Zum Abschluss dieses tollen Events gilt mein Dank all denjenigen, die den Uniper Düsseldorf Marathon möglich gemacht haben: #DANKE an die Organisatorinnen und Organisatoren, die vielen freiwilligen Helferinnen und Helfer und die großartigen Unterstützerinnen und Unterstützer an der Strecke. That’s exactly what made the Uniper Düsseldorf Marathon in my home city such a special experience for me. I really enjoyed lining up again in a relay team together with Dr. Malte Menden, Christian Barr and Inge Ullrich alongside many other Uniper runners. Events like this are a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people rely on one another, work together and keep a shared goal in mind – on the course and just as much in our day-to-day work. A moment that perfectly captured the unique energy of the day. The Uniper Düsseldorf Marathon is only in its second year. And already it feels like it's been part of the city forever.
