Roald Dahl’s Going Solo; a biography of his participation in World War II. ( Mr Dahl wrote a lot of great books, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach.)
Irene Hunt’s Across Five Aprils; Young Jethro Creighton grows from a boy to a man when he is left to take care of the family farm in Illinois during the difficult years of the Civil War.
Margaret Rostkowski’s After the Dancing Days; A girl comes to terms with the effects of war as she ministers to a soldier just returned from World War I.
