Effect Of Dust Formulations Containing Entomopathogenic Fungı Against Some Stored Product Pests

Öz

In this study, effective entomopathogenic fungal powder formulations were developed for controlling stored-product pests. The isolates Beauveria bassiana 5-4 and Metarhizium robertsii S3, individually and in combination with five different fillers (diatomaceous earth, clay, kaolin, talc, and calcite), were tested against three pest species: Sitophilus oryzae, Rhyzopertha dominica, and Plodia interpunctella. The experiments were conducted at a temperature of 30±2°C, 65% relative humidity, and under dark conditions, recording mortality rates on days 7 and 14. While the isolates and carriers were applied separately at concentrations of 2x1010 spores/kg wheat and 250 mg/kg wheat, respectively, they were also combined at the same concentrations for further testing. It was observed that the fillers did not reduce the efficacy of the fungi; on the contrary, certain combinations enhanced their effectiveness. Based on these findings, diatomaceous earth, clay, and kaolin were selected as fillers for the powder formulations. For each fungal isolate, three formulations (BbTF1, BbTF2, BbTF3, MrTF1, MrTF2, and MrTF3) were developed and tested for efficacy against the pests under laboratory conditions. The formulations significantly enhanced pest control efficacy compared to the isolates alone. All formulations achieved 100% mortality in R. dominica and P. interpunctella, while BbTF1 and MrTF1 demonstrated 100% mortality against S. oryzae. Furthermore, most formulations completely inhibited the emergence of new adult R. dominica, and BbTF1 and MrTF1 achieved similar results for S. oryzae. Among the tested formulations, BbTF1 proved to be the most effective. In conclusion, these powder formulations present a promising alternative to chemical control methods for managing stored-product pests.

Bazı Depolanmış Ürün Zararlılarına Karşı Entomopatojen Fungus İçeren Toz Formülasyonların Etkisi

Öz

: Bu çalışmada, depolanan ürün zararlılarına karşı etkili entomopatojen fungus toz formülasyonları geliştirilmiştir. Beauveria bassiana 5-4 ve Metarhizium robertsii S3 izolatları, beş farklı dolgu maddesiyle (diatom, kil, kaolin, talk ve kalsit) tek başına ve kombinasyon halinde kullanılarak Sitophilus oryzae, Rhyzopertha dominica ve Plodia interpunctella türlerine karşı test edilmiştir. Denemeler, 30±2°C sıcaklık, %65 bağıl nem ve karanlık ortamda yapılmış; 7. ve 14. günlerde ölüm oranları kaydedilmiştir. İzolatlar ve dolgu maddeleri zararlılara karşı tek başına sırasıyla 2x1010spor/kg buğday ve 250mg/kg buğday konsantrasyonda kullanılırken, izolat ile dolgu maddeleri aynı konsantrasyonlarda kombine olarak kullanılmışlardır. Dolgu maddelerinin fungusların etkisini azaltmadığı, hatta bazı kombinasyonlarda etkinliği artırdığı görülmüştür. Bu doğrultuda, toz formülasyonlar için diatom toprağı, kil ve kaolin seçilmiştir. Her bir fungus izolatı için üçer formülasyon (BbTF1, BbTF2, BbTF3, MrTF1, MrTF2 ve MrTF3) geliştirilmiş ve laboratuvar koşullarında zararlılara karşı etkinlikleri test edilmiştir. Formülasyonlar, izolatların tek başına kullanımına göre etkinliği önemli ölçüde artırmıştır. Rhyzopertha dominica ve P. interpunctella türlerinde tüm formülasyonlar %100 ölüm etkisi gösterirken, S. oryzae'de ise BbTF1 ve MrTF1 %100 ölüm etkisi göstermiştir. Ayrıca, formülasyonların çoğu R. dominica’nın yeni nesil ergin çıkışını tamamen baskılarken, S. oryzae’de BbTF1 ve MrTF1 formülasyonları bu başarıyı göstermiştir. BbTF1 formülasyonunun diğerlerine göre daha etkili olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak, depolanmış ürün zararlılarıyla mücadelede kimyasalların kullanımına alternatif olabilecek etkili bir bu toz formülasyon ortaya konmuştur.
