BEFORE AND AFTER POWDER BATHROOM

Somebody emailed me to say she missed my blog.....I miss it also.

So I need a wife to do all the things that take up my time now so I can get back to what is important:)

I have had a few small installs and one of them was this powder room....

Yes...she was a tad bit dull...just your basic builder grade bathroom.  I was excited to make this room special....

Here is my board after I decided what the heck I was gonna do!

Let's talk about the good parts of this room:

1.  I did not really have to undo anything....as it was pretty much a blank slate!

2.  The paneling was already there which I was really happy about!

I had been looking at these Josephine Munsey wallpapers and fell in love.  This one seemed perfect as it had a neutral background and after looking at some colors I decided on SW Analytical Gray to use as the color for the vanity and the paneling.

In the beginning I was almost thinking to change the  countertop and possibly faucet but after some thought I knew I could make a bigger impact adding other things to the space.

The paneling was painted and the light fixture went up and I knew she was going to be a stunner.  If you have tall ceilings this fixture from Visual Comfort is wonderful!  It comes in a single, double and tripple and I have used it quite a few times.....

I also ordered one of my favorite mirrors from Currey and Co which I knew would be good because it has silver tones and would go nicely with the faucet.....I don't think all the metals need to match!

I picked up the small watercolors from Vickie Sides at Scott's Antique Market before I even started the project cause they were so pretty and then "bam" they were perfect!

I scored the frames while I was thrifting....remember there needs to be something old in every space to give it life!  In my opinion....

I could not be more in love with the outcome.  I rarely use a colored mat but I am so glad I went out of my comfort zone!

Here you can see that the mirror has an antique feel to it!

The towel ring is from Kohler and the larger towel is from Target!

Of course where do we get all of out soap pumps....Homegoods!

If you know me then you know I love some texture so I got the kleenex box from Target

And there you have it!

Powder rooms are my jam and I love to give them a refresh!  Almost everyone see this space.....

Hope everyone is having a great Friday.....I had a big install on Wednesday and I will try to get a post up about that soon....

Love you guys...

Oh yeah I had a birthday and now I am 72.....not sure how I feel about that!

AUGUST.....

So where have I been...not really anywhere since my trip to Nantucket in May but I have been busy working!

I do have to say that August is not a fun time for me because some crappy things happened in that month.  In 2019 my husband of 27 years walked out on me and 2 years later my youngest sister passed away after a 5 month battle with lung cancer.

I know....both kind of sucky things to go through....

I have realized that literally.....my design work has saved my life.  It keeps me busy so that when I want to crawl into bed and not get up....I really can't.

The thing about life is that it goes on and tomorrow is a new day...and the next day and so on!

So back to August and what has been happening!

I have been helping a client near Hilton Head so that gave my sister [the bunny] and I a chance for a girls trip!  I have to tear her away from her grand daughter...

My brother lives there so we stayed with him and I love walking around his community!

I went to an amazing stone place called Savannah Surfaces!  They had samples of every tile that you have ever heard of....wish we had a place like that in Atlanta!

I started a basement for some good friends of mine and we found a great color!  SW Slate Tile

And....we did a cool plaid sofa!  Think....70's style!

But....for the first time in my career I ordered some chairs with the wrong fabric on them!

I wish someone had a camera on my face when they arrived.  Not a good moment. Cue: shock...and nervous laughter.

They are now getting recovered.

We worked on my nieces house and got her laundry room and the powder room wallpapered....

She loved the gray check I did on my last project so we used it for her!  Its Anna French.

My nieces fun backsplash in her kitchen....

Cami turned 10 and I am not happy about it.  I mean I am glad she is here to turn 10 but every day I think it's her last.  My sense of dread is over-exaggerated these days.....

Started my long times clients living room...and I think it will be a stunner....

OK....we have kind of caught up.  It has been a very busy summer and I have a few other things to share but we will leave that one for September:)

It is not quite "sweater weather" here yet but hopefully soon....

Y'all be good.....

THE GREEN BASEMENT REVEAL

Happy Saturday guys!  We are having all kinds of crazy weather here in Atlanta....not like out in California but none the less I go from turning the AC on to turning on the heat:)

I have some reveal pictures today of the green basement that I installed on Tuesday!  I am loving how it turned out....so warm and cozy.  This is a lower level family room but it is right off the playroom so it's nice to have a spot for the grownups to hang while the kids are creating mayhem in the other room.....

On the last post I kind of gave you the basics.  It was painted and most of the furniture had been delivered.  On Tuesday Rose and I did all the styling and there was a big need for that kind of stuff with a long cabinet under the TV and a cabinet that we also ordered.

Let's get to it!

Incase you forgot the walls are SW Pewter Green and the cabinet is BM Duxbury Gray

There were so many books to buy and I am happy to say that most came from second hand stores....I think I used over 40 so that would have been pretty expensive if they were all new....

I wanted this cabinet to feel really edited and not cluttered.....

Below are pictures of the small bar area.  This was just empty unused space.  We added a beverage fridge and pull out trash can.  Great place for snacks and stuff on movie night!

Just in case you forgot....here is what we started with!

The after.....

Here are a few shots of the space and how we orientated all of the furniture....

I love the Lee Industries Sofa and velvet swivel chairs.....

The 2 small end tables are form our fav place Target!

So hard to get good shots down here....well because I am not a professional and I was pretty tired at the end of the day!

Behind the sofa as a very long wall and I am lucky that she already had this beautiful piece....

We really could not paint this wall below because it is at the bottom of the staircase and goes up to the 3rd floor....but I did not want to leave it bare.

I got a great piece of art from my friend Andrea Costa and a vintage rug to tie it all together and warm it up.  Perfect way to bring some green over there....

I am so happy with how it turned out and so is she.  Such a good client...I can't tell you how many times she said "I trust you".....
I love that:)

And here we are....finished with this one except we are waiting for the light fixture to go over the table.
First install in 2023.

I went to Scott's on Thursday...saw some great stuff as usual.  Hope you guys have a good weekend....

2023 INTERIOR DESIGN TREND FORCAST

Hola my friends....

A few of you reached out with help to get my post delivered....thank you!

I will get on it and hopefully there is a good solution.  Blogger is kind of "old school" and most people have moved on to a better platform but as usual...here I am stuck in the "past" :)

Today I am joining some of my respected blogger friends to discuss Design Trends of 2023.

Now we know that if it is trending too hard then we actually need to stay away from it :)
The thing I like to stress to people is that the reason you hire a designer.....is to get a curated look that not everyone has....that is just my opinion....ha ha.

Anyway lets get to the reason for this post!

I am not sure I would describe these as "trends"
per se....because things/looks actually make it full circle in design.

The first trend I have noticed and I mean EVERYWHERE are fabric covered lampshades!

They were allover in the 3 showhouses I went to during the holidays.

Whitney Parkinson
Jared Hughes

I found these below on Etsy....and I saw so many different sellers!

The next thing are wall murals....
There are so many out there now including peel and stick!

Morris and Co wallpaper has been front and center.

I have seen so many designers use their papers and I have fallen in love with quite a few!

I about died when I saw this graphic on their website.....

I know...I am known for my love of black and white and I do still love it but to make it warm you really need to mix your textures!

The last thing I am seeing is brown....as in "brown is the new black" haha

And when I say brown.....that covers a lot of territory!

You can see the variations in the colors above.  Of course my favorite is not included in the above and that would be SW URBANE BRONZE.

Take a gander at it in the walls of my sisters office.

And her bookshelves.....you can see it looks different depending on the light!

So to recap:
Fabric Lampshades
Wall Murals
Morris and Co wallpaper
The Color Brown

Now you need to grab your coffee and shuffle over to my talented friends and see what they have to say.  What is good is that we live in different parts of the country so I know we will see a range of perspectives!
