Safari refresh icon missing on Mac

I have a Mac desktop running macOS 15.7.4. On Safari the refresh icon is no longer there. I have turned off and rebooted three times. No luck. Can someone provide an assist.

go to Apple Menu > Safari > View and choose "Customize Toolbar..."

and from the popup window you get, drag "Reload" from there and drop it onto your toolbar.

OK. well I now need to ask, are you using any apps that claim to "clean up" or "speed up" or otherwise "optimize" your Mac? and / or any antivirus apps? the only thing those apps are good for is causing major issues within macOS while providing ZERO protection or benefit. you would do well to uninstall them.

if you have no such apps, i'm thinking you should download and run the free version of EtreCheck so we can see if you have some software installed that is causing your issue. make sure you give "full disk access" to etrecheck. Learn how to use it by reading Using EtreCheck. if you need help interpreting the report, you can see how to post the report here by reading How to use the Add Text Feature When Posting Large Amounts of Text, i.e. an Etrecheck Report. and it automatically obscures sensitive things (like serial numbers) so you don't have to worry about sharing the report here.

Unfortunately, on the Custromize Toolbar, there is no refresh icon either. Could it be a virus? Thanks for your reply.

Virus ? - NO - full stop

If I may add

The Refresh icon in the Customize Toolbar is specific to Safari

I can not independently verify.

Do not think it has anything to do with running macOS 15 Sequoia

Is the user ( you ) saying the Refresh icon in the url box is missing ?

Illustration below is from macOS 26.3 Tahoe with Safari Version 26.3 (21623.2.7.11.6)

Where the arrow is pointing to, is also a " Refresh "

Have you update Safari to version 26.3 released Feb 11, 2026. ?

thanks for that info. I'm stuck at sequoia. I wonder why apple removed that functionality. (no, I'm not asking for speculation) ;)

Hum

I have the latest Safari 26.3. When I right click the mouse, refreash is one of the options so that problem is solved. However, I am unable to write anything in the tool bar. You can type the keys but there is no writing in the tool bar. Thank you for your help so far.

Vince

If you mean " Reload Page " then, yes agree this would act like Refresh
