iPhone 17 Pro Max: USB-C audio device power error

After upgrading from iPhone 15 Pro Max to iPhone 17 Pro Max, my USB-C powered audio device (Valeton GP5 guitar processor) no longer works.

The 15 Pro Max powered it without issue. My iPad Air also powers it.

The 17 Pro Max displays “Accessory uses too much power.”

The GP5 draws under 1W via USB (approx 5V @ 190mA). 190mA!!!!

This appears to be a HUGE regression in USB-C accessory power handling. Please consider restoring previous compatibility or adding a user override option.

There's no one from Apple here, just a bunch of users. Have you got the same iOS on both phones?

I've just checked the MFi page and can't find any Valeton products. It might be worth a call to Valeton's support to see if they know of any problems in compatibility.

You're unlikely to get an answer from Apple. Valeton are your best bet for getting this resolved because they are more likely to be able to discuss it in detail with Apple. Best of luck.

I want to further add, that beyond the simplification to all USBC, when going to the iPhone 15. Apple and then many outlets promoted the “fact” that USBC would support up to 4.5w for accessories.

I likely need to revert to my iPhone 15.
