Moramanga, `the place of cheap mangoes´, is a junction town with around 60.000 inhabitants along the RN2 running from Tana to Toamasina at the east coast. From here, you can either go to Lake Alaotra in the north, visit nearby Andasibe-Mantadia National Park or one of the associated protected areas like famous Mitsinjo reserve, or you proceed to the coast. Moramanga, “der Ort der billigen Mangos”, ist eine Kleinstadt mit etwa 60.000 Einwohnern an einer bedeutenden Kreuzung der RN2, die von Tana kommend bis Toamasina an der Ostküste führt. Von hier aus kann man nach Norden zum Alaotra-See, den Andasibe-Mantadia-Nationalpark oder ein anderes Schutzgebiet, etwa das berühmte Mitsinjo-Reservat, in der Region besuchen oder weiter zur Ostküste fahren. Assomada lies at 550 m elevation on a plateau in the centre of the island of Santiago amidst a picturesque mountain scenery. Therefore, the climate is cooler and thus more pleasant than in muggy Praia, and the surrounding landscape is characterized by farmland as well as the nearby mountains of Serra Malagueta in the background. It is the second biggest town on the island (behind Praia) with around 22.000 inhabitants. The population has nearly tripled since the year 2000, and among Assomada´s population are many Expats and Cape Verdeans who have returned after years or even decades abroad. Assomada liegt auf etwa 550 m Höhe auf einem Plateau im Zentrum von Santiago inmitten einer wundervollen Berglandschaft. Daher ist das Klima auch bedeutend angenehmer, weil kühler als im stickigen Praia, und die Landschaft drumherum ist geprägt von landwirtschaftlichen Flächen und den nahen Bergen der Serra Malagueta im Hintergrund. Assomada ist mit etwa 22.000 Einwohnern (hinter Praia) die zweitgrößte Stadt auf der Insel. Die Einwohnerzahl hat sich seit 2000 verdreifacht, und unter ihnen befinden sich viele Expats und Kapverden, die nach Jahren oder gar Jahrzehnten im Ausland in ihre Heimat zurückgekehrt sind.
