For the optional prompt of “Elephant” today, I made a sketch of a little baby elephant happily spraying water. In truth, I can’t believe it’s already February. This year seems to be rushing by rather quickly. I’ve been working on various creative projects, and likely too many at once, so I’m sure I’ve just easily lost track of time somewhere along the way. My mind has been racing with ideas of things I’d like to try while I’m still trying to complete and refine all of the ideas I’ve already started. As a kid, I always had new projects that I was obsessed with at the moment. From programming a raccoon character who lived in a 3-story house on my humble Commodore 128 to building ridiculous marble runs from toilet paper tubes, I had a blast inventing things. Indeed, always having a “new idea” to pursue has been what’s gotten me through this crazy life. I can’t imagine a life without creative projects to fill in all the boring gaps. Thankfully, despite my lack of attention span, then and now, I’ve somehow always managed to focus just long enough to complete them.

Some of the ideas that I’ve been pursuing lately have been life-long things I’ve always wanted to try. Little morsels of creative thoughts that have sort of stayed with me and yet have never had a chance to come to fruition. For example, I’ve always wanted to create musicals, and so I’ve been doing so with AI, bringing my concepts and lyrics to life. I’ve written three musicals so far, and want to try another, but I haven’t quite come up with an idea I like yet. It’s been such a rewarding experience. Additionally, I tend to love “catchy” music with a real hook and a lot of modern popular music seems to be about vibing to “sounds” that don’t really stick in my brain. So, Philippe and I have also made our own super catchy songs that we now listen to more than anything that’s commercially available. Yet, I do have to say that the soundtrack to KPop Demon Hunters is an absolute blast! It gave me hope that instantly catchy music with strong, soaring melodies isn’t entirely a thing of the past.

Of course, I’m still hard at work on the cozy mystery novel series that I intend to launch this year. I’ve designed the book covers, but still want to create a black and white sketch of the little town in the story for the frontispiece and end of the book. What excites me most is that I’ve been wanting write novels since the turn of this century. Back then, I read so many books on writing, but never managed to write an actual book myself. The same was true for drawing and painting. Once I stopped dreaming of doing something and actually started doing it, I can’t seem to stop. It’s such a rush to take the tiniest sliver of a creative thought and turn it into something tangible. Sometimes, I abandon those notions that don’t seem to be producing what I want. And other times, I find myself looking back to old concepts I’d been harboring for years. That’s the thing about dreams. They don’t really come with a deadline. It’s never too late to pursue them and manifest your own refreshing ideas!

  1. Hello Charlie,

What an adorable baby elephant that is! I love love love elephants too and guess what?! Am back in the jungle for a new client this time. There is a chance I may get to go in the park and pass by a patrolling elephants camp. Somehow there is always a baby elephant to see. Keeping my fingers crossed that a safari materializes. And what you say about dreams not having a deadline is something am gonna keep repeating to myself like a mantra. Thank you for that!

    Love,
    Mugdha

  2. Hi, sweet Charlie 🙋🏻‍♀️ I absolutely LOVE elephants, but especially baby elephants! They’re just so darn cute! Did you know that they don’t know how to use their trunk until later? So they trip over it and stick their faces in water to lap it up. Also mamas have to hold them by their tail because they tend to wander off and they don’t like to be photographed either. 😂 They’re so cute that I could scream! 😂 Needless to say, I love your painting! 😍
You’re right, Charlie! It’s never to late to dream or go after our dreams or to start over. I have so many plans for the future. I really want to learn how to swim. My parents never bothered to teach me and I really want to visit a tropical island somewhere and swim. I see videos of the aqua blue water in The Philippines and I want to dive in and swim, but it upsets me that I don’t know how. I could cry that it upsets me so much. 😢 I know that as a chubby Latina, buoyancy is not a problem. 😂😂😂
Good for you, sweet Charlie! Never stop dreaming! 💜🐻 I’m cheering for you!

    1. Hola, mi amiga! 😃💕 Yeah, elephants are soooo wonderful. And the baby ones are super cute! Learning to swim sounds like a wonderful dream. I actually did go to swim class when I was a kid, but mostly just learned to float and move about without drowning. hehe So, snorkeling by the shore was usually what I loved most. Much love to you! ❤️

  3. I’ve always been really eclectic about music, loving almost everything, but modern music just doesn’t do it for me for the most part. It just seems to ramble flatly, without really going anywhere. Probably more a symptom of my old age than the quality of modern music and fortunately I’ve got a great collection of older stuff.
